Transfer Portal 2025

The Gophers without Braun and Woodson were able to give Maryland, Ohio State, and USC all a run for their money in the final quarters of each game. But they just weren't able to finish the job in any of them. With Braun and Woodson back, I'm optimistic they will get some victories over top teams next year.

No worries here. There's a reason everyone is sticking together and the coaches don't seem to be targeting high profile transfers. They all think the pieces are there to succeed next year and I'd have to agree. The future is bright.

It is great to see them sticking together! Rah! Couple questions I have are:

1) When will Woodson be fully ready to play again?

2) What are the realistic minutes of the 2 freshman coming in? Bershers seems to be like a hybrid of Hart and Stewart. Shoots the ball outside but more with more size. More of her highlights are all 3 point shots. Seems realistic to need at least a year of development? Makena Christian seems to be another Guard/Wing with size and speed similar to Olivia Olson's?

3) Would Coach P ever consider playing a small 5 and having Heyer at the 5? Heyer, McKinney, GG, Braun, Battle?

4) Holloway got more chances down the stretch. Rooting she can continue to develop 10 ft shot all around and finishing down low. She likely will have a bigger role? Same with Klick as she gets more healthy.?

5) Is the NCAA going to go to 5 years and if so when? Hart for sure last year, but will it be Heyer or Battles? If they get a 5th year do they grad transfer out or hopefully stay here?

These are the questions for considering bring in transfers? Do you get 1 year help or see about tying to ones with 2/3 years left that can help some this year but be ready to go when Battle, Heyer, and Hart(if it is there last year). Seems like just 1 2026 commitment so far in Tori Oehrlein. If more 1 year help comes, will the core be ok with being deeper if meaning some less minutes here and there?

Good reason why South Carolina seems to be successful is because they are very deep. They have a lot returning (unless more transfer out) and still bringing in top transfers and recruits. Staley plays 8-10 deep in big games, probably deeper throughout the year.

Will be interesting to see what happens. Be nice to make NCAA top 16 see, host 2 W's, and get to the Sweet 16 or better!

Ski-u-mah!

It must be a sticky situation to recruit in the portal. If a player is demanding a starting position and a team says okay that might disrupt a team. If that results in a current starter being displaced and the portal is still open, then the "offended" starter hits the portal. And perhaps, teammates displeased with the decision could also hit the portal. Rebuilding through the portal might be "easier" than adding (and improving)?
Any player who demands a starting position without having to compete for it isn’t one who’s in it to win. Give me the one who is confident enough she can earn it and be part of a winning team before one who demands something that wasn’t earned on the court. This program needs players who want to win and will do whatever it takes.

Okay, a couple of updates on the portal. First, we are returning 10. we don't have many needs and certainly don't have a massive amount of playing time to be promising to people. They are being selective with who they are going after and they have to be a fit with the current roster. Also to the people saying "Will Mara be a needle mover?" ... Well the year before they beat Michigan, Michigan State and Nebraska who were all tournament teams with her. Also, look back at the Drake game from that year and get back to me if she can be a game-changer.

Updates.

-They reached out to Laci Steele. Opening demand was a starting spot. Hense why she ended up at Wisconsin.

-Reached out to Kneepkens. She just doesn't view us as the same level of the teams she is looking at. Im more petty than the coaches and would of reminded her we were able to beat Indiana and Northwestern even without Mara and Woodson and her Utah team couldn't....but I digress.

-A name to keep an eye on is the 6'3 post Jordana Reisma. She played basketball in Wisconsin and is leaving Cleveland State after three seasons. Coach Dawn is HIGH on her and going after strong. Reisma is on a visit to Missouri this weekend and unsure if Gophers will get her but Dawn is gonna pull out all the stops to try to secure her. It is said her skillset could have her starting over Hart as the Center.
My exact comment was "Yes getting Braun and Woodson back will help; but, not sure how much it will move the needle"

* Braun coming off back to back years with injuries
* Woodson coming off a ACL injury
* Two incoming freshman that we don't know will come in an be ready to contribute.

We may have 10 returning but there is a ton of unknowns. They could be great next year; but, I don't think it would shock me if they ended up middle of the pack (and maybe that is good enough to get them in the tournament)

From what we have seen the last two years from Coach P in the portal, she is not going to bring in some program changer, but more of someone that can fill in minutes. If we have injuries again we will be back in the same spot.

Need a competent D1 back up point guard that can run an offense and occasionally make a shot…
I agree you need to add a back up/ starting quality point guard. I know alot of people like this team and what we are returning but this team did not win that many big ten games. I know we get Braun and Woodsen back but not sure how much they can be counted on. Braun had back to back injury years and an acl sometimes takes two years. We can't continue to play the starters 40 minutes a game and win in the big ten. 1 or 2 portal addictions would really help this team to take it to the upper third of the standings. Without them I think we are a middle to the pack big ten team.

We need talented depth, not just serviceable depth. Requiring most of our starters this year to play nearly whole games too often hurt us at the end of some key games and could result in a weary and banged up squad come tournament time (didn't hurt us for the WBIT - but we probably would have struggled at the the end of games against NCAA tourney teams).
If we could have 6 players who play 28-32 minutes a game, that still leaves 20-25 minutes for players 7-10.
With Braun returning maybe we have those 6 players. But unless Sophie works on her conditioning, she is probably most effective at about 20 minutes per game.
I guess my point is that bringing in another talented player worthy of 20-25 minutes at the expense of shaving a few minutes from our current starters shouldn't disrupt chemistry. Especially if it means we're able to close out tough games, have fewer injuries, give the coach the ability to roll with the 'hot hand' rather than just the same 5 players playing 36+ minutes every night.

I agree.
Braun injured her foot around the middle of November. I would think she would be ready by practice time.... how long does it take to 'knock off the rust.' Whether she starts or not I think the staff would be mindful of her minutes.
Woodson was injured around the second week of December. Whether she will be ready for the season start remains questionable, at least in my thinking. Also to be considered is whether she will trust her knee or be tentative.

MiLaysia Fulwiley enters portal, leaving South Carolina. Hopefully doesn't end up in Big 10.

Pretty quiet of any mentioning any talks with anyone? Last year Coach P didn't add Rose and Brooks until beginning of June. Stewart and Woodson were both April.
