Tracy Claeys Press conference notes

I liked coach Claeys last night, but I have a concern about his weight. And I say this as a heavy guy myself...I don't want to lose one coach to epilepsy and the next one to heart disease or diabetes...he would be smart to get his weight and fitness under control so this job doesn't put him in the trash can.

While I can't deny that he's a little on the heavy side, I thought it was a low-blow that media members were asking him multiple questions that seemed to be centered on his weight. "Will you be mobile enough for the job," etc. Just didn't sit right with me.

Maybe it has always been this way but interesting that they don't list anyone as defensive or offensive coordinators. I would bet Limegrover has had the Assistant head coach designation for some time as that is a very common way to get coaches more money by adding titles.

Yes, Limegrover has had that title for awhile now.

Does anyone know where online I could to listen to Claey's conference today?

I could totally be wrong but I think some of that comes back to the last time he filled in as head coach and some comments he made in regards to moving from the booth to the sideline. I know Claeys has said many times he prefers the view from the booth but obviously as the head coach now he will have to be down on the field.

This is the new list:

Jerry Kill - Retired Head Coach
Tracy Claeys - Interim Head Coach
Matt Limegrover - Assistant Head Coach / Offensive Line
Brian Anderson - Wide Receiver Coach
Jeff Phelps - Defensive Line
Pat Poore - Running Backs Coach
Rob Reeves - H-Backs/Tight Ends
Jay Sawvel - Defensive Backs/Special Teams
Mike Sherels - Linebacker Coach
Jim Zebrowski - Quarterbacks Coach / Passing Game Coordinator

This is the old:

Jerry Kill - Head Coach
Tracy Claeys - Associate Head Coach
Matt Limegrover - Assistant Head Coach / Offensive Line
Brian Anderson - Wide Receiver Coach
Jeff Phelps - Defensive Line
Pat Poore - Running Backs Coach
Rob Reeves - H-Backs/Tight Ends
Jay Sawvel - Defensive Backs/Special Teams
Mike Sherels - Linebacker Coach
Jim Zebrowski - Quarterbacks Coach / Passing Game Coordinator

Everything else is exactly the same aside from Kill and Claeys.

On Tuesday Claeys had a great quote that is still cracking me up (in case you missed it). When someone asked him about the 3 game stretch, he replied:

"Kind of like they say, how you eat an elephant, one bite at a time, you know what I'm saying?"

I never heard of the elephant saying before, lol!

So who's going to be up in the box in Claey's old seat? Not real sure how that works. Is he planning on remaining D Coord and being HC, or is someone gonna step into that role?

Claeys has a fantastic sense of humor, he will be good for some great one liners. I just hope someone gets him to ditch the m'kay because every time I hear it I can't stop picturing the school counselor from South Park.

In the presser he mentioned they could add another coach and that any changes would be announced in the next few days.

Claeys mentioned some tweaks on KFAN today. Him and Sawvel will both handle defensive play-calling. Jay Nunez's role has changed a little as well as one other coach, I think it was Terry Szucs but I could be wrong. I believe he said Nunez will be more involved with the defensive backs along with his current role in special teams, and Szucs will help out with special teams more. Again, not sure I have the details right about those two coaches.

The changes are pretty minor.

I think he said Nunez will also move up to the box.

And now you know what to do if you need to eat one!

Thanks GL!! I think that Claeys would be a great choice too. Claeys said that he's one of those guys that can hit the sack and fall asleep, I hope that he is. I have not seen a study on it but I think that many coaches suffer from sleep disturbances, which eventually catches up with people. I know that Sparky Woods had that problem while at South Carolina. Best of luck to Claeys and Coach Kill.
