Per Marcus's tweets:

When asked about former HS teammate and Gopher @JoshMartin_206, @ZachLaVine said: "It's crazy we're paired up again in the same state."

LaVine said he wishes Martin the best of luck in his freshman year with @GopherMBB

Here's one from Gophers Coach Dan McHale:

How juiced are you @JoshMartin_206...HS teammates reunited in Minnesota. Doesn't get better than that. #Gophers #T-Wolves

It could get better. A little bit. Well, a lot a bit.

So the Logdogs take a kid who went to HS in the northwest, starred at UCLA, and declared early. It's a can't miss selection. What could possibly go wrong?

The Twolves are the only team in town that made Brewster and Borton's programs look like they were well run. First thing LaVine did when chosen last night (as camera pans to him) is say "F*** Me". Then he put his head down and got up looking like someone close had just died. The wolves will get their 3 years out of him and he'll be gone.

it’s difficult to ignore LaVine was the fourth-leading scorer on his team at 9.4 points per game, to go along with 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

“Maybe I didn’t get to show everything I can do, but, I had a great season at UCLA, not a star at all.

But he really picked it up the last 5 games, scoring a total of 11 points.

Yeah as in out of the league gone. It's cool that former high school teammates LaVine and Martin will be playing in the same city, but LaVine reminds me quite a bit of Rodney Williams.

My thoughts exactly. I imagine Rodney coming out after one season with the Gophers and being Zach LaVine. LaVine's got Ndudi Ebi written all over him...

Well at least he'll be a fan favorite! Lol

Probably not a good sign when your top pick immediately drops an F-bomb upon hearing you've selected him.

Nineteen year old males, as a cohort, are not known for exercising great judgement, but some are smarter than others. Bill Duffy, Flip's college pal, has a rock head for a client. I can't imagine that they didn't walk through what to do when his name was called.

This is going to make the Shabazz pick look savvy.

but LaVine reminds me quite a bit of Rodney Williams.

I was thinking the same thing when they were showing his highlights and stats. Same type of player, same size, same relative lack of production, although I suppose LaVine is a little bit ahead of where Williams was as a freshman.

Makes me wonder if Rodney should've just declared after his sophomore year, maybe someone would've taken him based on "potential" and "athleticism."

LOL at comparing LaVine to Rodney. Probably the laziest comparison you could make. "Oh look he can jump high, he is just like Rodney Williams." Rodney was a post player that couldn't dribble or shoot. LaVine, while raw by NBA standards, is much, much, much more skilled than Rodney ever was. LaVine can actually handle the ball and is a solid shooter.

I'm sure his stats at UCLA prove your point...

LaVine's draft stock rose highly after combine and individual workouts. Didn't look that good at UCLA. Hope the Wolves aren't counting on LaVine to get them to the playoffs as much as the Gophers are hoping Martin can get them to .500 in the Big Ten and out of the NIT.

LaVine can handle the ball and has a good shooting stroke. The Rodney comparison is, like Madtown said, incredibly lazy. I like the pick. When you can't attract quality free agents there's only one way to get superstars, and that's through the draft. Yes, they swung for the fences, but who really cares considering how bad this franchise has been the past decade. LaVine has star potential.

And the backlash from fans over LaVine's reaction has been incredibly annoying. We don't know the context of why he said what he said or whether he was upset or just surprised/relieved. He has said all the right things since and seems happy to be coming to Minnesota.

What kind of future NBA star starts games on the pine for his college team?

Nothing like being proven to be a moron, then changing the parameters of the question!

What? You actually thought I meant to say that every future NBA star starts day 1? I would hope they are starting by the time they leave...

Moron? What is this junior high? Do you want my lunch money too, boss?

He played 25 minutes a game, 4th on the UCLA roster... get a new bit or watch a game if you really are bothered by the fact that he didn't "start".

As for the people that said he "shot up draft boards after his workouts". Chad Ford had him going #7 overall in a January Mock draft

Rodney Williams is the easy comparison to make to relate to Gopher fans. LaVine looks like a better shooter and ball handler than Williams, but did it equate to in game production? Other than a few flashes, no. How often did we hear in Rodney's four years how good he looked shooting in practice or in workouts only to disappear during games?

How many players get drafted in any sport, especially in the NBA, based on potential and an athleticism but a lack of production, then go on to become even rotation players, let alone stars? Very very few if any.
