It seems nowadays most of the threads are ALL THINGS threads. I am just not a fan of them. In the old days when someone had something new to report about these topics i could tell by the title if I wanted to read the post or not. Now I would have to wade thru the whole thread to get to the bottom of the ALL THINGS thread just to see what was new--i.e. sometimes the moderator tell us whats new in the thread which does help. I know there are methods to get there quickly but I just tend not to do that. I prefer the way it used to be--something new comes up--make a title for the thread --and quickly read the post if the title interests youi.--. I am sure the gopher hole coordinators have reasons for doing all the ALL THINGS threads but I personally dont like them. They seem to be overtaking the whole system.

PS

Its not the football board as much as the basketball and off topic boards that are overrun with ALL ThINGS threads. Maybe its just me.

It is pure BS!!!!! If I want to do a rant on A topic it buried in some ALL THINGS format. It takes away the whole personality of the site.

I didn't like having all these all things threads either until I realised that ruppert's rants got buried in them. :)

Have to agree ruppert: anything that detracts from the personality of the place moves us that much closer to a "one size MUST fit all..." endless stream of passionless insults, +1's and ushers in the dawning of the curse of the twitter cult. But, that is merely my humble opinion... I suppose I am totally out of line and am not in lock-step with the majority...what ever the majority may represent...

Having 10 threads on the same topic is a 100x worse than having to click on the most recent tab of a topic to see what is being discussed. It's how every well run forum does it. I am glad that GH finally caught on.

I would much rather have numerous threads about the same player, than what is currently going on. I get the other side of the argument, but I definitely agree with the OP. It's still not as bad as Gopher Puck Live (and don't get me wrong...I love and appreciate GPL) but I fear we may be headed in that direction. I don't even bother clicking on any of the "big 3" threads anymore because it's just garbage. But, I don't pay any money here so who am I to say anything?

See that little blue button the arrow is pointing to?

Click on that in a post that has new posts, and it will take you to the newest, unread post.

I vote we get rid of threads all together. We can consolidate everything into one "All Things Golden Gopher Football" master thread. That way, we won't be inconvenienced with shuffling though all those "pesky" threads. ;)

I do understand the other side of the argument, but it's gotten to the point that the basketball forum is almost unreadable. New information is just buried in a 30-page thread. Agree that it's starting to go the way of Gopher Puck Live.

Not helpful. I have never opened up the I'd Like to Play NDSU thread so I would have to sort through all 90 posts anyway. I have to admit, you are a sharp one though. You are the only unregistered user that is able to post.

You realize what you are advocating for (unlimited threads on one topic) is a lot closer to that sarcastic suggestion, right? When you have one thread for each major topic, things are organized. When you do not, you have a mess of threads to read through to find new information or interesting conversations you were following the last time you logged in. I don't see why it is so hard for you people to use the short cut laid out above or just click on the most most recent tab to find out what the newest info is.

For the most part, I like All Things threads. Can you imagine posting a new thread for every tweet regarding a player's recruitment?

It just keeps the board organized. Take Kenneth Rawls, Dominic Cizuaskas, etc. - it's better to have an "All Things 2014 Recruting Thread" than to have a 2 or 3 post thread for each of them IMHO.

I dont even visit GPL anymore because I cannot stand the All Things threads. Too annoying.

We appreciate everyone's feedback on this. We have tried to create a balance between the two and are always open for feedback. We don't anticipate getting any stricter than we currently are but we do feel the All Things threads we currently have does provide a cleaner site and easier to navigate. Can you imagine how many Tubby or Tyus threads there would be on the hoops board!? Again, it's a work in progress and we are always open to feedback, though we anticipate keeping some around and certainly the majority of threads will NOT be All Things threads.

Please feel free to PM us or email us at [email protected] as well.

A quick scan of the first page of the football board shows that only 6 of 40 threads would qualify as an "All Things" thread, that is a small percentage in our opinion.

Its not the football board as much as the basketball and off topic boards that are overrun with ALL ThINGS threads. Maybe its just me.

Doc, only 5 of 40 threads on OT board are All Things threads and 12 of 40 on hoops. The latter we'll specifically keep an eye on.

I don't see why it is so hard for you people to use the short cut laid out above or just click on the most most recent tab to find out what the newest info is.

I think that shortcut tracks what you've read when you're logged in versus when you're not logged in separately. For instance, I usually don't log in unless I want to post, so if I read a thread while I'm logged out, then log in to post something on another thread, and click the "most recent" shortcut, it will take me to the first post that I didn't read while I was logged in. So while I may have read the entire thread before I logged in, after I have logged in it might take me to the first post of the thread, assuming I haven't clicked on that thread while I was logged in. I hope that made sense.

So then the solution to that is to either remain constantly logged in, or log in only to post and log out immediately afterward.

But honestly, with the exception of the Shaka Smart thread, I usually only have to wade through 2 or 3 pages of a thread at the most to find where I left off the last time I was reading it.

You can select to always be logged in. I don't know why anyone wouldn't do that.

in basketball you have all things tyus jones, rashad vaughn, reid travis, henry ellenson, alex alekainen rakeem buckles and isaiah whitehead and i think a tubby fired thread, football its just jeff jones, jashon cornell and the spring game reaction thread come to mind

Doc, only 5 of 40 threads on OT board are All Things threads and 12 of 40 on hoops. The latter we'll specifically keep an eye on.

I'm totally fine with keeping All Things threads. We could have one 2014 thread for everyone not named Tyus, Reid, Rashad, or JP. Or we could have a specific thread for Paul White, Ja'Quan Newton, Abdul-Malik Abu, Tyler Ulis, Kaleb Joseph, Sandy Cohen, Jalyn Patterson, Wade Baldwin, Dwayne Foreman, Marial Shayok, Onuaku, Terry Larrier, etc. with only several posts in each one. Makes a lot more sense to have one All Things 2014 Thread (and an All Things Tyus, All Things Rashad, etc).

I'm fine with new threads that might fall into an all topic to stand alone for a few days (if it has new info) and then be combined with the all things thread.

There can be balance between new ideas, thoughts or discoveries and then tidy up every few days once it has run its course.

If the "All Things" threads were actually on topic, they might be helpful. However, they're usually just pages and pages of useless chatter. I saw the Joe Coleman thread had new info, so I thought maybe he picked a school, but nope, it's just a bunch of people discussing the mid-range jumper.

The "All Things" threads are one of a myriad of reasons I come to GopherHole far less than in the past.

The posters on here amaze me sometimes. People used to bitch because there were too many threads about a singular topic so the Mods decided to try something different. They can't win with some folks. I think they do a great job balancing the info, I come here more than I did in the past because of it. I am grateful to have such a great board, with all of the work that Monter and Hodger do and others. Keep it up.

this is a very well run board. i appreciate the work of the staff.

Put me in the "hate them" category, too. I'm here less because of them. I understand it, but if you get too far behind there's no catching up. The threads on the Big Three on the BB board were started in 2011, for cryin' out loud.

Thanks all for the feedback. It's clear that it's a mixed preference which makes it challenging for the Moderators. We will be more lenient in allowing new threads to evolve and won't merge as many. There will probably be instances where information will be posted in a new thread and the All Things thread and that will appease both groups.

As always, if you have any additional ideas or recommendations, please PM us or e-mail us at [email protected]

Thanks.
