Here's what I've learned on GH since 2009:
1. Weber is the worst QB ever (even though he ended up with the 3rd most passing yards in B1G history)... why don't we give Gray a shot? He was a highly regarded recruit, he's got to be really good, right?
2. Gray sucks and can't pass, surely Max Shortell is the answer...
3. Max isn't good, let's go back to Gray, at least he can run...
4. Phil Nelson is the QB of the future, we need to play him now.
5. Nelson is terrible, let's give Mitch a shot...
6. Mitch isn't a D-1 QB, let's play Streveler! Oh, but Streveler can't pass.
7. Let's play Perra!!! He's a walk-on who had zero D-1 offers, but I think he's unbelievable because I heard good things about him in practice...or
8. Croft! Brilliant! He's 6'6" 190 lbs, I'm sure he can handle getting hit!!! Besides, my 8th grade son could complete 50% of his passes in a D-1 game.
For those who think Kill is being stubborn by continuing to play Leidner, you have no clue what you are talking about. If anything, Kill is borderline reckless with pulling redshirts and playing younger kids when he thinks it may help his team. How long did it take him to make Rodney Smith the workhorse over senior Roderick Williams? 1 half. He pulled Rashad Still's redshirt in game 1 despite having redshirted 3 receivers last year. Kill pulled Nelson's redshirt 7 games into the 2012 season because he thought Nelson gave them the best chance to win. He pulled Connor Mayes redshirt 6 games into last year and Mayes barely played all year. Complain about Mitch all you want, he leaves a lot to be desired. But the staff is quick to play younger guys if they think it will give the team a lift. The fact that they haven't is telling...and no, you aren't better than Mitch, and neither is the QB at St. Johns. The QB at St. Johns would have been on a stretcher wearing a cast at halftime from all the hits he had to absorb.
I'm not a Leidner apologist, he was lousy in the 1st half. But he was clutch when it mattered today, and we haven't had many QBs in the last 30 years who we could say that about.
