The rumors never end: Tubby a target for LSU job - UPDATED: LSU hires Johnny Jones

And a mid-July-car-trunk-warm Blatz Light is on my radar.

And Diane Lane is on my radar.

Now you are talking. She would be on my radar, but some would say I can only attain mid major level.

Why do people care anymore when Tubby's agent calls these reporters and starts the rumors to try and put pressure on the U to get the extension?

My first thought as well. It's "newsworthy" only if Tubby's name doesn't come up when a (major) job opens. Yawn.

If we compiled all of the Tubby rumor threads together, it would probably best the Football uniforms' thread size.

+1. To be honest it has become a running joke. Tubby would be much better off to put an end to this nonsense and state he will retire at Minnesota.

Can anyone find an example of a BCS team hiring a 61 year old coach?

I highly doubt anything comes of this, but let's just say something does. Wouldn't it be just our Gopher luck that, after all the rumors the last few years, it actually happens after Tim Miles is spoken for and off the market. D'oh!!

"@JacquesDoucet: Guys on ESPN radio 104.5 say chances of LSU hiring Tubby Smith VERY high. Hanagriff says 80%."

Go Gophers!!

How much money is LSU willing to throw at Tubby is the real question. I see no reason for him to want to leave unless he is getting paid more.

"@RandyRosetta: Sources close to #LSU and Tubby Smith tell me there is a "legitimate conversation" about the job"

Go Gophers!!

This may be a risky move for Tubby, with a lame-duck Maturi, Kaler may react differently than past administrations.

Ring a ling, ring a ling,

"Hello Dane (Fife), this is Eric Kaler, the president of the University of Minnesota. I'd like to offer you the opportunity to take over a B1G program that is not in rebuilding mode, in fact, you'd be able to hit the ground running with an experienced roster not devoid of talent, and one that at minimum appears capable of getting to the NCAA Tournament in 2012-13. We're looking for a young go-getter with B1G and Midwest ties, and you certainly fit the bill. Your first order of business would be to retain the key pieces of the current roster (Mbakwe, Williams, Hollins x 2, Coleman, Welch, etc.), but even if you're not able to keep all of them in Dinkytown we still think you're the man for the job."

Would prefer that Tubby stay to finish the job, but if he decides to leave he'd be leaving some good players behind for the next coach.

I asked if he was linked to the Arkansas football opening over on the football thread yesterday. I was only off by one sport and one state. not bad!!

Agreed. Fife would be an excellent choice too and couldn't hurt with the recruitment of Tyus (he likes MSU) I'd like Flip or Shaka (guy can dream right?) too. Don't think Flip is necessarily most qualified, but he'd be a decent direction to go.

My only concern is that if Tubby goes, one or both Hollins may go too (not necessarily with him), especially Dre.

What schools am I missing that Tubby's name has been linked to:

Auburn
UAB
Virginia
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Maryland
Tulsa
LSU
SMU
Oregon
South Carolina

I'm sure I'm missing a few, heck, it's been five years and we average at least 2-3 of these a year.

Go Gophers!!
