Note to Entertainment Production Team.

Do not have The Band start The Rouser when the team comes out of the tunnel until the "speaker intro music" has completed. We're talking about 10 seconds at the most here but fully the Rouser's intro and first verse have gone by before the fans can hear the song. Try it once just to see.

It's actually embarrassing.

The Band is queued to start the rouser when the team starts to run out of the tunnel. So either the team needs to wait for the song to end, or they have to stop the song when the team starts to run out.

If you have the band wait for the song on the speakers to end, it would look silly for them to stand there doing nothing as the team runs by . . .

I completely understand the point. I just disagree it being silly for them to stand there. To me it would be fine for them to do The Rouser once the song ends even though the majority of the team has passed.

If you look at vintage song sheets, the last 3 lines that you posted are not part of it either. So maybe as a "cheer" it has the Rah at the end and not in song form. I definitely have seen it on the scoreboard at some point showing the Rah at the end.
 

1. Billd is right. Wait 10 seconds. It doesn't make the band look stupid for standing there because everyone is cheering for the team running out anyway. Plus the band is already standing there for several minutes anyway while the team walks the tunnel.

2. Purple Lamborghini should stay. My son lives in California and all I have to text him is "The purple Lamborghini is lurking" and he knows exactly what I mean.

3. Always say "RAH" at the end of the Rouser

4. Chant "SKI-U-MAH" during the Kernkraft song on the opening kickoff.

5. Get rid of Mr Brightside. Who wants to sing along to a song about being a cuckold? Leave that to Michigan.

Well said. "Rah" is a must. Just a little tidbit that combined with other little tidbits, makes up the uniqueness of each college football school.
 



The students seem to be saying something after SKI U MAH now. Anyone know what it is?
 

I was in the marching band in the late 70’s and we were schooled to not say Rah at the end because it wasn’t part of the song or tradition at that time.

Personally, I like saying Rah at the end, and only commented because Unregistered User posted that Rah is part of the Rouser, when it’s more of a fan add-on.

It would be interesting to know if today’s band now says Rah or not.

I agree. Noticed it right away. They are finally trying to deal with the mis-designed band section.
 

I too have noticed the TV mics seem to be picking up the band better this season than in previous seasons. That always seemed to be an issue that Ohio State and Michigan could figure out. Even as a kid I could always hear Michigan's rouser take center stage after scores or turnovers, but despite having a band as big and loud as Michigan's, the Gopher band always sounded muted on TV. I used to blame it on the dome but the problem persisted once the team moved to the bank.

I then came to the conclusion that the problem wasn't the band, acoustics, etc. but it was likely some sort of lack of sound engineer in place to advise visiting networks. Definite improvement this year.
 

The band was mic'd really strongly against Rutgers and the sound engineering was great picking up the homogeneous sound of the entire band rather than 1 trumpet playing a bit off-key.

I was in the band in the 60’s. The spelling out of Minnesota was actually a cheer, not part of the actual lyrics to the Rouser. The Rah st the end was always done in the 50’s , 60’s, and 70’s. I cannot remember when it was eliminated at the end of the cheer.

Saw/heard a stat yesterday that 65% of Americans have planned their funerals. Obviously the inference is they did this while alive. Behind the curve myself.

To the topic of the thread, when I heard this stat the first place my mind went was I'd like The Rouser played at my funeral. Assuming Mrs. Billd is still kicking, I know she'd sing along and clap and say "Rah" for me.

I like the idea of a funeral being a little more personal / reflect someone's personality.

They're mostly very formal, some photos and so on but it would be fun to have them with a bit more variety that reflects the person.

It wasn't in the 1980s. I remember doing my entire time as a student

Walter Mondale’s memorial service at Northrup Auditorium concluded with the band playing the Rouser and the Battle Hymn of the Republic. The former baffled the non-Minnesotans.
