The Gophers need to get into the statue-erecting business too outside of Huntington Bank Stadium.

I'd put Philip Nelson ahead of Athan. I think he was higher ranked. Plus Athan at least got us that victory in Nebraska after Tanner went out at halftime.
Nelson was a better QB than AK but all of the other issues....

I still think Brewster would have earned a statue if he punched Bert after the 2010 Sconnie 2pt game

My hunch is the poster (EWert86PC) brought up the General College being ditched because of the presumed notion it made it harder for Gopher Coaches to get jocks with borderline academic credentials into Dinkytown, thus harder for the U of M to compete in the Big 10.
I get that but honestly very few athletes were in my classes anyways.

That exactly why I put the qualifier in bold:

"
...the presumed notion it made it harder for Gopher Coaches to get jocks with borderline academic credentials into Dinkytown."

It was quite a Sid Hartman diatribe when GC was eliminated. Several Gopher fans buy into it hook, line & sinker.

Our athletes and the rest of the University are doing just fine without the GC.

PNels got MN a NE victory. Hit Freuchte down the middle or somethin like that. Nelson was a better qb than leidnuts but players are not allowed to tell the HC that. After that it was 4 straight failed years of Jerry trying to prove to PNels that leidner was a quality starter big ten qb.

What I recall is the team was not on board with the arrogant Nelson and was all in on the street fighter Leidner. It was obvious to just about everyone that Nelson had the better QB skills, but the team simply played harder for Leidner.

It's a curious comparison to refer to Leidner as a "street fighter" in comparison to Philip Nelson.

I was in General College for a year (my HS screwed up my application) what does that have to do with anything?

You are wrong on this one, very wrong, like supremely wrong. You should really drop this one.
We've obviously had different experiences. I guess that's the difference between CLA & GC. I didn't realize GC was saved from the chopping block then. That's pretty much the only L I can take.

This is true. But I found out GC was closed in 2005, not the 1980s. It is ridiculous that you now cannot get a generalized post high school degree from the state's land grant university. It pretty much goes against the charter, founding purpose, of the school.

I think it's fairly rare for 4-year state Universities to grant 2-year associates degrees. That's what the community colleges are for. Do any Big Ten (18) schools grant associates degrees? From what I can tell, no (at least at the main campus).
