Let's get serious and get back to the Statue talk:

I say AJ's Mom or whoever the hell it was.... needs a statue.

No really, I think it is a good idea to erect some statues of Bronko Nagurski, Bruce Smith, etc.. but do not get too carried away with it or it will dilute the significance.

Agree. Set a standard of College Hall of Fame for players and National Championships for coaches. Sure not if Bruce Smith is in Hall of Fame so maybe a Heisman exception.
 




On a more serious note I'm pretty sure we'd build statues if some donors showed up and said they'd pay for it.

It was AJ's Mom's friend if I recall correctly. She definitely needs a statue.
 





Statues surrounding the stadiums are a must. We should honor our past greats and they should be accessible and in the forefront of our facilities. Winfield and Molitor should at the baseball stadium. McHale and others at Williams arena, you get the point. When visiting fans come to our campus and sports facilities it should hit them in the face with our great tradition. Most people outside of Minnesota have no idea the greats that come from the U of M. Add Tony Dungey, the Buds, and many other greats for football. I love the idea. You could even just do a walk of stars, like Hollywood and Nashville have, anything that can help celebrate the U of M.

Speaking of Sid. Why not make his statue mobile? Then in the Fall we can wheel him from Target Field (maybe stop at Murray's along the way) to Huntington Bank Stadium. Nobody was a bigger Gopher booster than Sid.
 

This thread has taught me that a lot of people love statues. Who knew.
 


In addition to the National Championship, Murray Warmath was the coach responsible for Sandy Stephens, Bobby Bell and Carl Eller being Gophers.

I think the first statue should be of an anonymous player, fleeing the stadium, holding an NIL check.

It's DIII football. I mean that in a literal sense.

The Pioneer League was founded by schools that were DI in basketball but DIII in football (this used to be allowed) and were too successful in DIII football, namely U of Dayton. So DIII kicked them out.

Those couple handful of schools started their own league that was modeled after DIII rules (no scholarships), and it continues to this day.

Agree.. St. John’s, Bethel and Gustavus would not finish last in the Pioneer League

Just curious, why do so many have Nagurski number one over Bruce Smith?
Smith is our only Heisman winner and 2x National Champ. Also, the first Goph to have jersey retired.
Not arguing, just wanna know the reason. I see Nagurski did more as a pro but wouldn't a statue outside our stadium be about who did more as a Gopher? Fill me in.
