The cost of the buy-out

If in 2007 you were told that Dan Monson's replacement (regardless of name) wouldn't win any NCAA tournament games between 2007 and 2013 and that they would never finish above 0.500 in any given year of the Big Ten, would you accept that?

I wouldn't.

Not disagreeing with your statements.. however I will on one point. Mason never made the equivalent of the S16 (new years day bowl). The S16 is a big thing... again, we have only been 3 times in past 25 plus years.

Tubby has made the equivalent of the Motor City bowl I believe, but not the level of the Sun Bowl or Insight Bowl.

Good to see you on GH

Glad to see you didn't care to read the earlier posts and what we were talking about. Whatever, carry on.. spew some fire and have at it.

If you were told that coach would not finish above 500 or finish above sixth place, and the only ncaa tournament wins would be a trip the the S16 once in six years, would you accept that? I wouldn't.

And this should be acceptable since it is "history".....

I'll say it. I hope we lose our next two games. I WANT A NEW COACH.

Tubby will only continue to run the program further into the ground.

I just can't do it. I can't cheer for my team to lose, especially in ncaa tourney games. I've really only enjoyed a run that far once and technically that never happened (I was 9 and 10 in the late 80's so really didn't appreciate what was going on at the time).

I know what people are saying: lose now to help us down the road and I don't disagree with that. But since we so very rarely do anything in the tournament, I'd rather at least enjoy a few wins there (if it happens). Once the games start, I want to win.

Thats pretty much where I am. I also believe Teague will do the right thing, whatever that is... unlike the MAturi days. I will just cheer (or yell at TV) and things will go from there..

If Tubby wins a game in the tournament I say he will be back. If we lose the first game I say there is a 55% chance he will be back.

Even if the team ends losing first round BTT and first round NCAA not that he should be but I believe Tubby will be the coach for next year.

Next season with the makings of a 5 or 6 win conference season that will leave Teague without much choice.

This is the area where Tubby gets a little Brewsterish, brining in athletes that don't come together as a team. This state has shooters that end up going to lesser schools, it wouldn't hurt to grab a couple from time to time. He's gone to the athlete scrap heap to fill out this roster far too many times, the fundamentals are killing this team.

Ethan Wragge, Eden Prairie, now with 4 3 pointers in first half for Creighton in Missouri Conference championship games vs Wichita St. Probably not recruited because he was not long, lean, athletic and good in transition.

I was thinking the same thing while watching him burry 3's in this game

I bet those coaching geniuses Bo Ryan, Tom Izzo, and Fred Hoiberg all offered him though right? At least Buzz Williams must have!

We don't have enough a shooters how is this relevant?

So your answer to "adding shooters" is to recruit kids without a single BCS offer? I wonder how that'd work out ... Believe it or not, every white kid with a jump shot isn't the same.

I would prefer we actually would have signed guys like Paul Jesperson, Josh Ogelsby, or Matt Thomas.

That's the point, if you can't sign guys like the ones you mentioned you may gave do go deeper into the well. It's unacceptable to go without functioning point guards or shooters to the extent we have.

We win a tourney game = 100% return.

Lose first round = 50% he stays. I would have said 90% a week ago.

I'm assuming your 55% prediction is based on the financial part of the equation?

I don't think he is going anywhere unless we lose next two games.

Why the hell would you expect tubby to bring in a good pg in 6 years?

I thought it a bit ironic that I read goldengopher post while watching Wragge drain 3s so I post an example. I have no doubt Wragge was not highly recruited- guess what neither were Mav, Armelin or ingram. Part of the criticism of Tubby centers on recruiting. He has done an extremely poor job of getting the players the team needs-a point guard and shooters in the past 2 classes. He has a penchant for long, lean transition players who can dominate inferior high school opposition by getting to the rim but are mediocre shooters. My guess is that he would have not recruited Hoffarber(Monson recruit). Unfortunately that has not worked out. If the Gophers had a less athletic player who could shoot like Wragge(instead of Mav), perhaps they beat NU in Evanston and Nebraska in Lincoln. Where is Anders Broman going to school?

I cannot imagine Teague sitting still if we lose in the first round. That would imply an all out face plant after a great start. Tubby would be gone for sure I think... I really think Tubby is playing for his job over the next few weeks. If he can rally the troups and the team makes a run, I think that takes care of a lot. I know most on this board would fire him, even if we make the final four, based on results up to this point.. however, if Teague evaluates the full season and we end up making a run. I think he will conclude that at the end, we lived up to expetations. Anything short of the second weekend.. I think we are looking at long threads about who the next coach is... Should be interesting.. the fundraising aspect is key. Whatever happens... make it quick and decisive Mr. Teague.

If we make the final 4, Tubby can stay here until he is 95 years old for all I care.

NT needs to evaluate the full '13 season, the 5 previous, and project forward.

Then make a decision.

Once again you fail to realize those guys were signed because of transfers. Guys like Wragge had signed LOI's well before Tubby knew those spots were opening up. Why people can't grasp this is beyond me.

Tubby is fair game for the transfers and I could see people saying he should have banked a scholarship or two in those situations. There's not a whole lot of good recruits available in April-July.

You guys are leaving out a big piece of the puzzle - the Class of 2014 in Minnesota. Getting any of them will be tough. Getting any of them with a lame duck coach about to be fired will be impossible. If Teague has any doubts about Tubby, he needs to go this spring. That will give whoever is the next coach a chance to establish a relationship with Tyus, Rashad, Reid, Macura over the summer.

Even if the Gophers lose in the first round, Teague is NOT firing Tubby. There'll be some changes, like new assistants, but Teague is not firing Tubby regardless. It's just a pipe dream by some fans. It ain't happening.

Did Teague tell you this himself?

If he loses two straight, I don't see him being brought back.
