G Andre Hollins
G Austin Hollins
G Joe Coleman
F Rodney Williams
F Trevor Mbakwe

Gotta love our potential this year!

PG Al Nolen
SG Andre Hollins
SF Blake Hoffarber
PF Rodney Williams
C Trevor Mbakwe
------
Austin Hollins
Lawrence McKenzie
Damian Johnson
Colt Iverson

Interesting that the only true and effective point guard was Nolen. Also interesting how much more complete a team this year's club is than the past. Furthermore Rodney and Mbakwe almost should be on the team by acclamation.

PG: Nolen
SG: Westbrook
PS/SF: Blake Hoff (PS=Pure shooter)
PF: Rodney
C: Trevor Mbakwe

I hope the Hollins 'brothers' end up displacing Nolen and Westbrook, but not yet.

PG: Al Nolen
SG: Blake Hoffarber
SF: Damian Johnson
PF: Rodney Williams
C: Trevor Mbakwe

Johnson added so much with his energy and defense, If we had a guy like him in our lineup this year, I think we'd be a much better team

G Al Nolen
G Dre Hollins
F Damien Johnson
F Rodney Williams
C Trevor Mbakwe

To be honest, it would be easier to pick the 5 that I for sure would not add:

Guards:
Devoe Joseph
Justin Cobbs

Center:
Colton Iverson

Forwards:
Travis Busch
Dominique Dawson

PG Al Nolen
SG Andre Hollins
SF Blake Hoffarber
PF Rodney Williams
C Trevor Mbakwe
------
Austin Hollins
Lawrence McKenzie
Damian Johnson
Colt Iverson

PG- Al Nolen- You have to start the team with a ball handler who doesn't turn it over & that was Nolen. Also in the deal is the most intense defender at the PG position I've ever seen in Maroon & Gold. He was a nightmare for opposing PG's.
PG/SG- Dre Hollins- A valuable player here because he can spell Nolen at PG, changing up the dynamic by adding more of a scorer when the offense gets stagnant. He can also play SG when needed & fill it up from all over the court.
SG- Blake Hoffarber- The guy was an amazing pure shooter, great teammate, very good all-around player & was at his best with the game on the line.
SG- Austin Hollins- With my SG by platoon approach I've already got Blake & Dre Hollins so I don't really need a scorer here. What I get is a lock-down defender who can take the other teams best Guard out of the game.
SF- Damien Johnson- I'd love to have a real sweet shooter in this spot but that's not how things have played out for the Gophers lately so I'll take DJ, a guy who did a little of everything & was an insanely good defender.
SF- Vincent Grier- This is a write-in vote. Like DJ he wasn't a prototype SF but the dud could ball & was very hard to defend with his left handed dribble/shot & herky-jerky style.
PF- Trevor Mbakwe- He's "The Beast", a double-double machine who gives us the luxury of having the most physical & explosive forward on the court, even when we play the top teams in the country.
PF- Rodney Williams- Has come into his own at the PF position & continues to improve. With the rest of this team being so amazing Rodney could just cruise around & clean up the garbage/block shots.
C- Elliot Eliason- To win in the B1G you need a couple bigs. Elliot needs to get stronger still but he's aggressive, blocks shots, passes very well & gets up & down the court.
C- Colt Iverson- He gives me 5 hard fouls to use every game & doesn't give a s*it if everyone hates him. He's our Bill Lambier, the guy the other team's fans all despise.

I just plain don't get this. Austin Hollins is Damian Johnson with a jumpshot. And I was a huge, huge fan of Damian.

My memories of Johnson are him running cross court in transition and blocking what would be an easy layup, I don't see Hollins doing that.

It was difficult to choose forwards because Rodney Williams and Trevor Mbakwe are probably the best we've had since Tubby got here, but I still really like Damian Johnson and Paul Carter. I only started following the team when Tubby got here, so I don't remember much of Lawrence McKenzie, but he was named third team All Big Ten in 2007-08, so he must have been pretty good.

I chose Al Nolen because he was a good distributor, he could drive the lane, and he was a great defender, and seeing as 2 of his 4 seasons of eligibility were cut short, he deserves another year. :) Dre is a good scorer, Austin can score and defend. I think it's a good sign that 4 of my chosen 5 came from this year's team.

If we started Nolen, Austin, DJ, Rodney & Elliot, the opposing team might not break double digits.

I bet Dre takes Hoffarber out of my lineup by the end of the year.

Oh, we can pick non-Tubby players for the all-Tubby team? Then I pick Mychal Thompson.

For my backcourt, I'm going with Nolen and Dre Hollins, a little undersized, but Nolen's ballhawking defense, combined with Dre's explosive offensive ability just seem like a good match. I would then stick Hoff out as my wing forward, he would open up so much for my other two forwards in Rodney and Mbakwe. Kills me to keep VIP Johnson off the lineup, but I feel ilke the offense would be too limited if I switched out Hoff or Rodney for him.

I could actually slide Nolen out, sacrifice a little backcourt defense and move Dre to point, with Hoff at the 2, and then have a front court of Johnson, Williams, and Mbakwe.
