The stadium should be a non-issue. It is certainly not important compared to other things they have to deal with. Any voter who votes based on stadiums is a really blind voter IMO


I don't think they should have gouged either. I was responding to a person who said gouging could have resulted in the Vikings moving (rodentrampage) by saying if the gophers controlled the Vikings moving, they should have sent the Vikings on their way. I don't think they had that much control.

The Supreme Court established the limited antitrust exemption for professional sports which is the entire reason stadiums are publicly funded nationwide. The state of Minnesota wanted to keep the Vikings, their support is overwhelming, and chose to partially fund the stadium to keep them here rather than lose them to viable alternative markets.

But if the gophers had the power to make the Vikings leave (as was suggested in the post I responded to) you don't think they would be intelligent to try to make it happen?

No I do not. Horrible PR move if it came out that the intent was to force the Vikings to leave, hurts the prestige of the entire metro area you are recruiting to, having an NFL team next door is one of the things the staff can use to differentiate Minnesota from the rest of the B1G.

The Vikings could just as well played at the Metrodome until their stadium was being built somewhere else. He'll they could have played in Madison and people would have showed up from Minnesota.
