Thank You GopherHole

Sitting here scrolling across the different threads it occurred to me that it is worth a second to thank GopherHole as a place for all those who embrace, love, and yes...passionately contemplate and debate all things University of Minnesota Athletics...to come and hit their keyboards or phone pads to express their thoughts.

I did a quick google and sure enough an article popped up from amazingly Fall 2025 that details the story behind the start of GopherHole in 1996. This means we're coming on the 30th anniversary of what probably was an inauspicious beginning.

While my personal focus is on football, there are many posters to this site from the past to the present who touch on football but all the sports that is fantastic. Whether you are a lurker or at thousands of posts, I invite all to take a moment to reflect on just how great this site is.

Thank You GopherHole to those who operate it... past, present, and into the future.

May this and future New Years bring you what you wanted at the start...a place to celebrate University of Minnesota Athletics and all that it offers. Ski U Mah!

We love how the GH community has grown and evolved, it’s a place for us to share our passion for Gopher sports, and where a true community has developed and strengthened over the years!

Here’s to many more years to come and hopefully many more Gopher victories to celebrate!

I have talked to a couple people over the years that are regular readers of Gopherhole but would “never” post here for fear of all the sniping that takes place here. I have to admit the same concern gave me a little pause when I began posting here back in 2009. But I shrugged it off, posted, and have continued to do so ever since.

I’m not always happy with my submissions, as I can be a bit stubborn to beat a dead horse on occasion. But one way or the other I am always back for more and I am so happy to have this outlet.
