Point 3. We are not going to listen to the negative negatives who cry, "But Braedon Carrington and Dennis Evans could leave the team!" We believe the Johnson success plan *will* be realized and pay off.


Point 4. We understand that great coaches sometimes start with a slow start. Bill Belichick was fired from the Jets. Clem Haskins went 2-16 in the Big Ten his first year at Minnesota. What matters is the payoff. What matters is the success plan.


Point 5. We understand that an effective success plan -- the Coach Johnson plan -- takes insight and planning. Minnesota historically is not a good recruiting team. We understand that being a fan of the Gophers has historically been a tough experience. Overcoming this challenge takes wisdom. It takes forward-thinking field general vision. It takes several moves. A center. A guard. Another guard. We know that "win at this exact moment" is not realistic for Minnesota. The smart field general -- Coach Johnson -- will win through a smart success plan, the Coach Johnson plan.


Point 6. We are not going to listen to those fans who are unable to delay gratification. They need to find another team.


Point 7. We can't list all the other points, so #7 is for everything else. That includes Gophers signed 2023 prospect Cameron Christie, the team suffered injuries at the start of the season that hurt, the team is very young and playing more freshmen than most other teams, guard will be fixed in the Johnson success plan, etc. The team is young and the success plan is underway.

Are we just trying to trigger Wet Blanket with all the positivity? On a serious note. I don't think Evans going to be a star right away, infact I think Payne will play more than him at the five next year, but I do think his post defense will be an immediate upgrade. I think Christie will come in more ready to play than Henley and Carrington did. Not sure Carrington will ever be a star but no reason he can't be a good four year player like Austin Hollins or Dupree, every good team has glue guys like that. JOJ I think can be a nice swiss army knife off the bench, again everyone needs a guy like that as well. Henley, not sure yet he's over matched and too skinny this year but every once in awhile he will do something that gives you hope. Will see. Freshman recruiting been fine, curious how 2024 goes, but for this year Garcia, Battle and Cooper just aren't meshing or in roles to make the team successful. The ingredients aren't awful but they've made an awful meal this year and year in and year out putting a roster together is like 80 percent job. Doesn't matter how good your sets are out of time outs and in bound plays if you don't have the pieces to execute

I’d be really excited if Carrington was Austin or Dupree level. Not saying he can’t be but those are good big ten players. Not super stars but very solid. I think he has a lot of potential.

Agreed on Evans. Will be a defensive upgrade. Put backs, layups and dunks offensively. Hopefully he spends a couple years in the Bold North so we can see what else he develops.

I’d also caution on #1: if evans shows elite mobility (his production on offense means very little) NBA scouts may take a flier on a 7-1 mobile big who has a focus on defense a 1 and done (plus he is extremely young for his grade) … then we are somewhat back to the starting point. There is some caution with these extremely highly rated recruits with a ton of upside (he’s only played bball since 8th grade). Rivals currently has him as the #13 overall recruit.

Oturo- granted not west coast: I don’t think he really moved the needle (I consider the recruiting since then business as usual *and can we actually credit Ben with recruiting Evans as I thought Marcus Jenkins was the main recruiter / driver of that)

One could argue Coffey should help on the west coast as he plays for the clippers and has had a decent career after going undrafted

I also bet Payne doesn’t like being classified as an insurance policy at this point, even by the super pro CBJ contingent

IMO we have all the wings we need. I would look for a true point guard and another big that can dominate in the the center, protect the rim, rebound, and score. I know a lot of people think Evans will be that person but he is not here yet and he may need more time to develop.

I've seen this a hundred times before. It's the norm. Most fans don't look past the current game...let alone the current season.

If the team wins, the coach is a genius. If the team loses, the coach is a bum. Regardless of the circumstances.

Fans don't have the patience to consider what was inherited...recruiting...or anything. They don't look for progress. They only look at the current-game won-loss result.

I think Carrington is easily a Dupree level. Austin was a great defender. Don’t think Carrington can match that, but he better offensively.

For carrington to be Dupree he would need a brain transplant. Dupree’s game was not built on settling for 3 pointers but was more around attacking the basket, and many times would do that at the harm of his body…slightly different than Carrington. Carrington as of now is strictly a catch and shoot player. In the big10 I assume that aspect of his game (the open shots) will most likely be eliminated, or they are a strategic decision by the other team to give them up (as they focus on shutting down Battle…and leaving open a lower 30% 3pt shooter). As I’ve said numerous times, Carrington has to learn how to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. (Either finish at the hole, or collapse the defense and kick out to other open players).
