TCU home and home series confirmed 2014 and 2015

Bingo! We have some Texas players on the roster and I'm sure they want to expose Minnesota to more Texas kids. As far as the money, this is like monopoly money in the whole scheme of things compared to our budget and it happens all the time.

I definitely don't think the money is a drop in the bucket for the athletic department. The last i heard they couldn't even afford to do basic building maintenance right now on the leaking roof at Bierman, add lights to the ball field, or fund the department without loans from the general fund.

Coolew01 - I wish they had a buy out here for this topic. My god how many times do people want to say the same things over and over again. On second thought, don't answer that question.:horse:

Sorry I should of said the excuse for not wanting to play UNC... Our program not being strong enough to play a tough opponent. I will now take anything Woody says as bull*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#. I agreed with the reason for not wanting to play UNC. This move seems to contradict their excuse.

BCS Opponent Delayed One Year

We will be playing TCU one year following the UNC game. I believe the idea behind scrapping UNC was to allow more time to prepare for the big boys. They did just that.

Kill didn't want to play UNC. Teague argued for keeping it, but relented and made the deal to buyout. When searching to fill the game, they weren't able to find anything they really liked, so Teague was able to convince Kill to get on board with TCU. Kill's feeling a little more positive than he was when he started trying to get rid of UNC when Maturi was still AD.

Fair enough. Go gophers

-800k for UNC
+400K for lack of SDSU buyout, which was basically mandated by B1G with no more FCS
+500K for TCU away
=+100K
Unaccounted for is the 2013 so called buffer playing NMSU, which will help build the program.
Take me through it another way?

I can agree with that math for the most part, though it's really not that simple.

If UNC was still on schedule I doubt we schedule TCU. Though there likely would have been other scheduling moves made to affect the financials.

Though if you only consider the UNC series (assuming that original deal was even for both sides) and SDSU game in 2015 the total cost for Gophers would have been $400K. But that would be for 2 home games and 1 away.

Now, those 3 games have been essentially replaced by @NMSU in 2013, @TCU in 2014, and vs. TCU in 2015. After UNC buyout, getting $500K for going to TCU, and not having to pay TCU or SDSU anything for the 2015 game we are still out $300K. Though that would still leave us up $100K (plus whatever we are getting, if anything, to travel to NMSU) in comparison to the $400K price tag for the 3 games since removed from the schedule.

But while there may be $100K+ savings or gain (or however you want to look at it) when all said and done, you need to keep in mind the home game lost, as the 2home/1away has now become 1home/2away. So you'd have to include revenues lost for that 1 home game if you really want to compare the financials.

In the end I think it all worked out for the best. We are down a home game which sucks but we probably didn't need to have 4 non-conference home games in 2014 (plus that may have been altered in a different way if UNC series was kept). Unless you are SDSU fan, whats the biggie flipping them out for NMSU (when you ook at it that way)? We still get home and home with respectable BCS opponent, only now it is shifted one year back when in theory Kill will have had more time to build and improve "his" team. And the financials probably come out fairly close after factoring in everything. The deal with TCU seems pretty good to me regardless if it fully made up for UNC buyout or not.

Then you saying that Teague was lying today when he's said that the Big Ten desires on scheduling forced them into the move and that they were "kind of lucky" that the TCU series fell into place?

I'll take him at his word even if you find that kind of "petty".

Perhaps the TCU series did fall into their lap. But I also believe there was a plan all along to replace UNC with another BCS team that would more benefit the U in the future. Also, FWIW, Teague is not a lier but I'm beginning to realize that he is quit adept at playing the role of a spin-doctor.

...people are SO uptight about money. Seriously, the entire UNC non-story was basically the monetary equivalent of one of us accidentally putting a ten dollar bill into the strippers g-string instead of a one. But, then we walked outside the strip club and found another ten on the sidewalk so it all evened out.

The real question then becomes, was it Shaka Smart who dropped the $10 outside? Or was he still inside at the giant hot dog buffet?

pretty easy to see what happened here: Teague scheduled TCU and told JK to deal with it.

Why it may seem that way, that's probably not fair to Kill. Him and Gary Patterson, by all accounts, are great friends if not best friends.

Could you post a link to the Nebraska board where you read that? Sorry about Dimonic McKinzy.

While taking a shot at G.G. and his Cornhusker ways is always welcome he's right. It has always felt that way with the constant requests for money. Now with Bleeds post from USA Today it's a fact too. The Athletic Department is being subsidized to the tune of $7 million per year. That should go WAY down with new BTN money, unless it all goes to Coaches.

I like how we're 4 pages of angst into a thread about scheduling a game. Lot's of finger-pointing and posturing. Excellent.

1) Dropping UNC games - business decision - perogative of new AD and football coach.
2) Scheduling future home openers on Thursday nights before Labor Day - business decision - perogative of new AD and football coach.
3) Scheduling NMSU to fill UNC spot - business decision - perogative of new AD and football coach.
4) Scheduling TCU home and away, including 2015 home opener - business decision - perogative of a new AD and football coach.

All are business decisions and the perogative of a new AD and football coach. I tend to think the rest is not mine to judge, nor care about. It's a football schedule. In the end, it's all a wash.

Bingo! and this is great news and yes it's time to stop whining about the UNC series and look forward to a Horny Frog road trip in 2014.

That won't generate any clicks. Seems like everybody is very happy with the TCU series aren't they?

It's not about the happiness in TCU, but more in the annoyance of dropping UNC THEN adding TCU. Anyway, I didn't want to reiterate what MV posted on TDG in my own words, so supplied a link.

I was really looking forward to the UNC road trip, and now I'm really looking forward to the TCU road trip.

Sometimes seeing how the sausage is made is ugly, but the outcome is really all that maters at the end of the day.

Go Gophers!!

Would love to make a road trip down to TCU (hear they gots a great new renovated digs down there).. but that'll also be the year we make a road trip down to Lincoln as well. Unless we win the lotto, it won't happen. Bummer.
