1) This is awesome

2) We spent money to cancel a home and away series with North Carolina for 2013-2014 so that we could schedule an away game with New Mexico State in 2013 and an away game with TCU in 2014.

I just.....what!?! At least we gettin' paid this time.

Insert obligatory "How much will it cost Kill to buy this one out?" post.

Okay, glad that is said and done. Move along Ruesse's of the world.

Very nice pick-up. Glad to hear it.

Now let's do the same (a quality home-and-home) for hoops.

Couple interesting points. We get $500,000 for the game @ TCU. Plus, TCU is taking over the $400,000 buyout for the South Dakota game. Overall, $900,000 worth of value. That's $100,000 'profit' after factoring in the UNC series. Interesting when you look at the long-term instead of straight knee-jerk reaction.

WOW. This is outstanding news. Great work Teague, and now everyone can shut up about UNC.

Very nice, and everything works out too. M Club guy McKinley Boston gets two games including a HOME game with a BCS school. Something that as a very small independent he had no right to expect. Teague's old school UNC get a check for not playing the two games. Kill's old buddy Patterson gets a Home and Home game against a BCS team that they are expecting to beat. Most importantly Gopher fans get a Home game against a BCS school that they should have a chance against and an away game against a BCS school where you can actually get a flight, spend a weekend and get a ticket to boot!

Yeah, nice all the way around. :D

Or when circumstances change, but still how can they get TCU to come up here and not pay them anything? Are they really that confident they'll beat the Gophers?

Spurred, in part, by the Big Ten’s desire to strengthen nonconference schedules, the Gophers reversed course, challenging a TCU team that moved to the Big 12 last season after going 47-5 over the previous four years. TCU had its own scheduling needs and agreed to deal that will help Minnesota financially twice:

Wow. Tuned into 1500 because they were talking about this and it just devolved into Dubay ripping on Philip Nelson for some reason?

Nice move. Looking forward to this.

You have to credit Teague on this one. He made it back with interest.

The chances of us winning at Chapel Hill were small. UNC lost one home game last year and it was a shoot out with GT. I think a lot of people just don't understand where we're at as a program and what we need to do to actually become competitive in the long run. Missing a bowl game this year would be a huge blow to that goal. Kids want to play at top schools and if they can't then their next tier is regular bowl participants. Do we get someone like DeVondre Campbell if our bowl prospects were low? Probably not. Isn't it better to get him on the field at NMSU rather than have to sitting him since he's not ready yet (hypothetically of course)? A lot guys are going to get reps our first three games and we're going to be better for it. I know it hurts ones pride to say we're not good enough yet, but we're never going to be good enough if we schedule certain losses.

This should give a nice little boost in recruiting as well.

To be fair, it's only "profit" if you assume that we were going to cancel the series with SDSU either way, which is hardly a given. We spent 800k to get out from UNC, made 500k for playing TCU, and essentially had someone else write the check to SDSU to make the deal work. In total, we're still 300k short, though I would agree that's a fair price to pay to push the BCS opponent back a year and get another FCS school off the schedule.

Thanks for that and Mr.Teague would certainly agree that they got lucky.

With the four-team College Football Playoff coming in 2014, the Big Ten is determined to bolster nonconference schedules, adding more BCS [Bowl Championship Series] opponents and removing FCS [Football Championship Series] opponents.

In 2015, TCU will help the Gophers accomplish both goals. After years of dominating the Mountain West Conference, the Horned Frogs went 7-6 last year after moving to the Big 12.

“Honestly, we got lucky,” Teague said of the way scheduling the two games came together.

David Benedict, the Gophers executive associate athletic director, has a relationship with Texas Christian AD Chris Del Conte, dating to their time together in the Pac-12 Conference.

“I think a lot of it was timing,” Benedict said. “They needed a game. We needed a game, and I think we made a compelling case that for it to work out, it was going to have to be a positive situation for us

Not sure what your point is. The move is a great one for the department, but they didn't make money here.

According to the Pioneer Press, the U was going to pay SDSU $400,000 if we did play them. According the them, cancelling that game saved the $400,000. Don't know who is correct.

I am still very disappointed with the UNC decision. But I will still support the program. And I'm glad they found a way to recoup the money, whether it was 100% real or partially smoke and mirrors.

When push comes to shove, it isn't all about profit. It is about an upgrade in the OOC schedule, making for better recruiting, making for more fan interest in Kill's plan. Short term losses for long term gains.

Let us also not forget that Coach Kill and Coach Patterson are extremely close friends, which will add to the drama of this home and home matchup.

So not true.

The buyout is probably equal to what we would have paid SDSU to play. $400K is a typical FCS payday. Since we're not paying TCU anything, it is profit.

Sweet TCU is good team!!!So the game @TCF is on a Thursday??

-800k for UNC
+400K for lack of SDSU buyout, which was basically mandated by B1G with no more FCS
+500K for TCU away
=+100K
Unaccounted for is the 2013 so called buffer playing NMSU, which will help build the program.
Take me through it another way?

Glad to hear you didn't throw away your fandom because of scheduling change...
