Sad new per U of MN press release:

University of Minnesota head women's basketball coach Dawn Plitzuweit announced today that sophomore Taylor Woodson suffered a season-ending knee injury in the game against Jackson State on December 11.

"We were all so disappointed when we learned that the injury that Taylor sustained would be a season-ending injury," said Plitzuweit. "Taylor is a very strong and competitive young lady, and we know that she will apply her competitive nature to her rehab, along with continuing to grow her game while she is going through this process. It has been such a joy to watch Taylor develop and we know that she will continue to help our team in any way that she can with her enthusiasm as a teammate."

Woodson had played in all 12 games for Minnesota this season and was averaging 8.1 points and 4.4 rebounds in 17 minutes per game. She set career highs in points (18) and rebounds (7) earlier this year against SMU and played a season high 29 minutes against Houston.

Woodson is in her first season with the Gophers after transferring to Minnesota from Michigan. She played high school basketball at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minn., and graduated in 2023. Woodson was a two-time state champion at Hopkins and led her team to a 28-3 record as a senior. She averaged 18.7 points per game in her final season and earned Class 4A all-state and all-conference honors.

Dang it. I wonder if she'll be able to apply for a redshirt. This is so disappointing.

Good grief this team cannot catch a break. I think Woodson was just scratching her potential. This team needs to rally around their fallen soldiers and show some fire, much like Zaui B’s team did when Banham went down a few years ago. It’s time for all this talent to gel.

Dang that's disappointing news. I really enjoyed the rebounding, energy and effort Woodson was bringing on the floor for the Gophers. Injury bug starting up again really blows, and not fun. She could create her own shot too, which is not an easy skill in basketball.

I’m guessing probably not, because if she’s played in 12 games that’s probably more than 30% of the season. It depends on how deep they go into the postseason though.

Of course, worst case scenario. Holloway, Johnson and Czinano will be getting lots of minutes now, need to step up

ST holder. From her reaction when she went down, she knew it was bad. No ability to put any weight on it while being assisted off-court and directly down the stairs to the locker room.
Until later in this game, the non-conference opponents seemed resigned to their fate. In the 3rd quarter, things started to get chippy. Hart became a target of several skirmishes. Things quieted down in the 4th after Dawn removed all the starters.

Both Holloway and Czinano have seen reduced minutes, especially Czinano. It also appears that Dawn is trying to fast-track Johnson to a bigger role. Johnson shows glimmers of looking like she belongs but is still building up her confidence.

Hopefully we get Rose back soon. The little break should help with that, she’s been playing great as of late.

ACL injuries can be so strange. Her injury was non contact. She was simply moving down the lane toward the rim without the ball. I was hoping for a rolled ankle. This is really bad luck.

Most of the ACL’s that I have witnessed have been non-contact. A player lands wrong on a jump stop or rebound, turns wrong on a pivot, etc…. Occasionally, I have seen it happen when they run into a player on a block or charge, but not as often.

Played in 12/30 regular season games and redshirt rule was at 30% or less of games but that also includes preseason/scrimmages/conference championship/postseason

so the BIG tourney and any post season games count? That should help.

Sad to think this is the third ACL injury in the last three years. I just wish this team could stay healthy. Go Gophs!

would need 10 additional games counted to cancel it out if no scrimmages/preseason got included, not sure how firm the 30% rule is since the other 2 clauses are has to be before halfway point of season and has to be season ending

I don't know where to find the rules but I believe all conference tournament games only count as one game and postseason games do not count.

Sad to see Woodson out for the year. I was watching on B1G+ and on the replay, it looked like the player guarding her stepped on her foot. So as her body moved, her leg didn't follow. Still unfortunate. She is a talented and athletic player and will be missed.

I think Woodson was defending. The Jackson St player has the ball and moves down the left lane. Woodson shuffles with her. Woodson doesn't get stepped on. The JSt player passes out to the corner and Woodson collapses at the block. There is a slight bump, but nothing of significance. This is why I originally thought it might be a rolled ankle, but when she came back to the court with a wrap on her knee, I figured this wasn't good.
