Taylor and Lindsey catching walleyes and bass

This thread called this to my mind for some odd reason.

Nice fish. Too bad they will likely die if they were released.

Somebody needs to teach them how to handle a fish. Never hold a fish vertically. Once the hook has been removed,, hold them horizontally and get them back into the water ASAP.

Only two lures I ever use are a Rapala and a Mepps spinner. All other lures are a waste of money. 😏
When I was a kid I would catch a ton of Northerns on red/white Daredevils.

Time out of the water when the water temps are warm is the biggest factor (especially for the walleye). The fish on the photo aren't super-huge so less danger than if they were big. If they released them relatively quickly, they'll be fine.

That being said, holding horizontally is certainly the best option.

I hated catching northerns. Slimy snakes, full of bones, and generally good for nothing. 🤔😅 Give me bass, walleye, and crappies. But, I did have a daredevil in the box.

Filleted correctly, northerns are quite good.
I don't know one person that eats bass...except my late grandfather-in-law. But he was from Iowa...where things like bullheads are a delicacy.

Northerns are not that bad, especially if eaten fresh from the lake and if the Y bones are filleted out of them, or if they are pickled like herring. But, they aren't worth it as far as I am concerned. The stinky slime in my boat isn't worth it, that is. I can smell them in the dip net already and I do all that I can to get them unhooked and let go without bringing them into the boat. They are also a nuisance biting off line, causing me to re-rig and/or messing up treble hooks on crank baits.

Agreed on the bass. No interest in eating them although supposedly they are passable from cool clear waters. I used to fish an annual walleye tournament on the Missouri River and we'd stay at a camp ground that had a large fish cleaning station. I was always amazed at the number of small mouth bass I'd see in the waste disposal sink there.

After he retired, Bobby Knight used to come up to northeast Minnesota and fish for largemouth bass. It's a not so big secret that the lakes north of the Range are great bass fishing lakes. Floating the flats with a mepps spinner and catching 2-4 lb bass while they jump on being reeled in, there is nothing better.

If I am going to eat fish, it's going to be walleye, crappie, or even bluegill, but not northern. For me, northern even taste slimy.
