I was able to catch up with Tanner for a few minutes at halftime. Per usual, he had time for everyone, and couldn't be a better guy.

He's enjoying broadcasting, ministry, speaking engagements and more.

He said that if Drake Lindsey sticks around that he can "flip everything around" and in 2-3 years, he'll hold all the QB records.

He said beyond Lindsey's arm strength, he's mentally able to process everything so quickly. He's not a one pitch thrower. He's a worker, but so calm and collected.

He was also happy that Max Shikenjanski was able to get a TD. He said he works so well with Drake and the QB room is really supportive of each other.

Cool update - thanks

I really enjoy Tanner's analyst and insight. I see this a job should he continue great for him. He's already better than some veteran analysts thats on tv nowadays. With this game a name your score type of game for the Gophers, I only still have the game on to hear Tanner's insights.

Agree. There are many marginal analysts in college FB. I just heard one of the announcers in the ISU vs io game say “ bros before ….” in reference to a players ex-GF. What ? He thinks in his living room with his pals ??

That's Gus Johnson, he's not an analyst, and he's widely considered among the best in the business. On your particular point, I agree - very tacky and bush league on his part to say that on a broadcast.

Agreed, a dumb thing to say, but nobody bats 1.000 and I think most would still say he's an elite announcer. One of the few guys with endless energy that can really make a game for a fan.

Not in my world…insufferable

Agree to disagree on that one. Polarizing, I think.

The fact that Gus Johnson is widely considered “among the best” indicates how terrible the current crop of announcers are.

I live in an area with generational Latino presence and cultural influence and one of the local kid football and soccer sports league announcers is a dad, absolutely hilarious with his Latino annunciating traditional “gooooooooaaaaalllll” or equivalent for every big play and his made up names for the kids.

Bottom line is there are many people, including middle school kids who could do Gus’s schtick. But honestly I’d much rather listen to this local Latino dad’s stream of thought all game than Mr Johnson. Gus has no insight, doesn’t even seem to know the rules sometimes. I don’t know how or why he’s been elevated to the highest levels of broadcasting.
