Syracuse WR Ashton Broyld on U: "They're kind of poor in the secondary — tackling."

per the Post Standard:

Syracuse wide receiver Ashton Broyld did his best to inject some life into things on Wednesday, providing the first potential bulletin board material from either side in Houston.

"They're a very disciplined, hard-nosed team," Broyld said. "But they're kind of poor in the secondary — tackling. We're going to try to expose that."

Go Gophers!!

Hmmm. I thought we tackled pretty well, as a team, and I was mostly pleased with the tackling of our secondary. I also read some other guy criticizing Brock's tackling. I thought Brock was an outstanding tackler. Am I missing something? I hope our secondary, especially, tackles this guy with some good old fashioned B1G hits. Bubble screens and throws in space to expose us? Bring it.

I don't consider this bulletin board material or talking smack and I am not offended by this, he isn't trying to piss us off, he is just stating what he believes are the strengths and weaknesses of our team, having said that he is dead wrong, that is maybe the best strengths of the entire team but whatever

I think the signature moment of how good our secondary is at tackling was during the spring game when Antonio Johnson just picked up and body slammed derrick engel, I never thought of him the same way again

Imagine if it was one of the Gopher players saying this. The Syracuse board would be crying that he should be suspended for the game or something. I'm not sure I agree with what he is saying but either way it is a non-issue.

Oh, my god, I am laughing. A mid-level high school team has an opinion.

I am outraged. How dare he think critically and express himself clearly.

Very interesting comment from a WR. Is he implying that the DBs are poor in run support or tackling the receivers after the catch? I thought the gophers were very good in limiting yards after catch and the run support from the DBs was fine too. I am interested in how they are going to "expose" the secondary.

Good thing we won't have to worry about it since they aren't very good at catching the ball.

I don't really have an issue with the quote. I think he's wrong but whatever.

Someone's just trying to create a story where there is none.

I thought the Safeties tackled well.

At Cornerback he may have a point though? Murray will knock the snot out of you, but beyond him we had Wells who played with one arm all year, Vereen who's an adequate tackler but not very physical imo & Shabazz who isn't afraid to tackle but is tiny.

These comments reminded me of this thread from earlier in the year when Cedric Thompson said that Devin Gardner has a tendency to panic and just kind of throw the ball up. These comments garnered much outrage, and posters pointing out how Michigan is amazing and we absolutely suck and it was insane for our players to say such things. There were Michigan highlights of our past losses to the Wolverines posted. Because we Minnesota fans trash talk our own team so opposing fans don't have to.

That thread generated 28 responses in 6 hours, this thread has gotten about half as many responses in three times the amount of time. It's outrageous when our players point out our opponent's weaknesses, but it's just meh and "no story here" when they do it to us apparently.

Welcome to Alice's world, rabbit.

Ashton Broyld will know better, when he goes to the sidelines with his training staff trying to get his nuts out of his throat.

This is a team that completely exposed BC and Maryland. We should be worried. Their game against GT was just an off day. GT would be a top-ten team if they played in the Big Ten.

Haha, what?

That would make sense if their losses came against top teams. Four of their five losses came to teams ranked 22nd or worse.

Georgia Tech is a good team but your post made it seem like the ACC is the SEC and the Big Ten is the Sun Belt. Most consider the BT and ACC to be almost equal this year.

Top ten in the Big Ten maybe.

FSU exposed Maryland for the fraud that they were, I would say Maryland and BC are mediocre at best, I would also say PSU and NW beat these guys pretty good, they'll cry about their qb as an excuse, but they weren't exactly close in those games, to the point where one player would make a difference.

My previous post was riddled with sarcasm.

Can't wait for the game. Excited to see how we play. I really hope the gophers come out and take the next step in building the program. A strong win today will really help as the team sets up for next year, but I am still cautiously nervous as anything can happen.

The only thing that worries me is the fact that EVERYONE outside of Syracuse has predicted the Gophers to win. I haven't seen a single media person pick Syracuse straight up. One guy did pick Syracuse against the spread, but he still took Minnesota straight up.

This will say a lot about Kill and his staff, if they can get this team up for playing this game and can take care of business. I don't mean to sound greedy, but seeing as everyone expects us to win, there is one way that we can still come out looking like winners today, and that's if we win the game of course and covering the spread as well, but also, if we can have Cobb at least, rush for over 100 yards against them. They are the only team that hasn't allowed a 100 yard rusher yet this season, so if we can pull that off, that would be news worthy, that would be doing more than was expected, and I believe we can accomplish that. Cobb got over 100 vs MSU, and I am very confident that MSU is a much better team defensively than Syracuse is.
