So if Claeys will allow Jay Johnson to run his style of offense, where does that leave Leidner? Leidner can rumble, but not really run. Johnson's style of offense is probably perfect for Seth. Will we see an open competition at QB next year?

You were hoping for the OC from Ohio State or Florida State? I think you follow the wrong squad.I know nothing about him- was hoping for someone from a bigger school or somebody from another state for recruiting purposes.
fine-- ULL has one three star in this years class-- hope he comes here-- he is TE from Texas. ULL is not even in the top 100 on Rivals so my point is I doubt many of those recruits are what we are looking for.

Leidner will be the starting QB next year.
But, I expect to see Croft in some games maybe to give Leidner some rest.
Croft will transition into a starter with Seth Green possibly red shirted.
I can't say that I've watched his offenses at all, so I don't have an opinion on whether his offense is going to work or not. I do know his family fairly well though, and he is a legitimately good guy. My parents and his parents were close friends. I graduated from Lakeville the same time that he was at Augsburg, and he brought a couple of guys that I graduated with to Augsburg as well as at least one guy that I know to Truman St. I've never heard a bad word about him. He is the type of guy that you want as a mentor for your kids.

I don't care for any system where the QB is asked to run all that much. I like to see my QB's throw the ball and I like to see my RB's run it. I want to see a Pro-style system that has balance and can be effective running and throwing. We will see if Johnson can bring that or if we will be stuck in the same struggles we have now.
Why? Are the Gophers at a disadvantage by not running a "pro stye" system?
I like it that he may bring an exciting brand of offense and is a good mentor.
His ties to the area, and having worked together with Claeys at Kansas is a big plus. It seems that Claeys wanted coaches who get along well with others, and who treat the kids right in addition to coaching skills.

Cautiously optimistic about the hire.
Our offense has been putrid - even at the worst, his offenses were more productive than ours.
Only time will tell if this is a good hire, but I sense a positive vibe after the dismissal of the old QB coach and OC. The play calling was better last night, even without an OC, and Leidner looked far more confident than in the past. It was hard to see a lot of improvement in the offensive line, but that will obviously be a point of emphasis for the coming season. We could be on the verge of seeing future Minnesota QBs consistently reaching their potential rather than simply trying not to make mistakes. One game does not make a season, but I would not be surprised to see Leidner have a fantastic year and I expect the running game will improve.
I'll bite. Show me his worst game and our best.
