STrib: Ex-Gopher QB Chris Streveler leaving CFL as a 'legend' to pursue NFL dream

Streveler looking to make it on the AZ Cardinals roster, willing to do whatever it takes to stick. He still regards himself as a QB though, but he is willing to stick on Special Teams or whatever niche there is.

Some of the Cardinals beat writers have taken to calling him "The Leveler". Streveler the Leveler. Has a nice ring to it!!

Maxx Williams also on the roster, but has missed time this camp so far, brief mention of him here. Williams signed a 2-year deal with the Cardinals this offseason I believe.

Cardinals Trying To Find Role For Streveler
I had my doubts but hot damn, Streveler makes the Cardinals roster as a 3rd QB, but also made the roster as much for his position flexibility (special teams) as he did for being a 3rd QB and pushing backup Brett Hundley.

Continuing to hear more and more that Maxx Williams is a huge, huge portion of what Kliff Kingsbury wants to do on offense.

GO GOPHERS!!!

Great update! Thanks!

Did Streveler?

I watched a few games where he was pretty phenomenal. More so as a dual threat runner....extremely quick, loves contact to his detriment (like Mitch), but erratic arm, wierd delivery. That said, could he develop into a decent passer at the next level - maybe? He was 1-2 years in as QB2 in a different league with different rules.

Wonder if they're looking at him like a Taysom Hill role?

Wish him the best. Wish the Gophers could have found a spot for him other than backup QB. I was a little surprised he couldn't get on the field as a receiver.

Yeah, his stats were very average for CFL QB. Don't think he started many games in the dual QB system they ran. 8 TDs and 14 INT passing...his counterpart was far better passing. Seems Chris was used mostly for his legs.

The old cliche, "he's a football player" definitely applies to Streveler. I was one that wanted him to get more snaps with the Gophers but that's ancient history, no need to rehash that

We’re judging guys by their early results now?

I think some are still really angry over that performance vs SDSU for some reason. Limey and Kill, I can see.

OH! I forgot to add one other thing; Major Kudos to Streveler for doing what it takes to make the team, not saying "I'm just a QB and that's the only position I want to work at". Dude wants to play football and he'll do what it takes to make an NFL roster. Good for him!!

From The Athletic: "A CFL product, Streveler, however, made himself valuable. Not only did he battle Hundley for the No. 2 job behind Murray, but he also worked out on special teams and has a good chance to help there."

Streveler is QB2 today versus SF. Jersey #15

The inactive Cardinals for Sunday's game against the 49ers are in and there is one major surprise: Not only is quarterback Chris Streveler active, but he is the backup to Kyler Murray with Brett Hundley being one of the team’s five inactive players.

Injuries, maybe from overuse in college, ruined his chances.
Also playing for an offense that never developed quarterbacks Into multiple read passers hurt his chances.

Not saying the staff didn’t try. Saying they never really succeeded.

When the starting QB runs for 100 yards and still Streveler gets the wildcat call on 4th and short -- that's respect!

Makes me wonder what the gophers missed.

I wonder too, but I also wonder if he didn't really get what he needed by transferring elsewhere and it wasn't going to happen here.

The handful of times we saw him he was exciting, but raw. I think riding the Streveler train in MN would have been a rough ride / you'd have to really ride it out before it worked out longer term.

It doesn't take more than a couple mistakes at QB a game to just end the game...
