Hey a little love for Mr. Coleman, who gives MN the penetrator who gets to the line and cashes, something that this team needs. If he can add a mid range jumper this summer, look out B!G next year.

Three is a trend. We may have something here. Feeling good about this one.

This starting five looks so much better - give it a chance Tubby

I really like Joe Coleman. Future All Big Ten player and All America candidate. He's a freshman and he's playing like he's been there for 3 years. Kid has ice in his veins. He's the perfect Tubby Smith player! Tubby doesn't generally like freshman since he once said he wouldn't mind going back to be freshman ineligibility but he will give this kid the green light 100% of the time. He plays more freshman than people give him credit for. I give you Rondo, Jason Parker, Marvin Stone, Randolph Morriss, Rashad
Carruth etc...

Me too. Assuming arguendo Rodney comes back (which he should, because he'll get even better), consider this:

Welch, Coleman, Austin, Rodney and Walker; with EE, OO, Dre, Arm, Ahm, frosh Ellenson and Buggsie. I think Tubby now has this team on the rise. I hope OO and Dre can gain confidence so they begin to handle the ball better.

Coleman has some moves! This kid looks really good.

COLEMAN = STUD
DRE+COLEMAN+AUSTIN+CHIP+WALLY+MAV = Best B1G backcourt in 2014. That group could penetrate, shoot, press, handle, and pass.

Go Gophers!

There is little likelihood that Coleman will not start short of self-inflicted violations. Can Gophs climb to 4-5 at the midway point?

i hate to be the one to break it to you.. Rodney won't be back next year.. book it. Dude has got kids to feed and he's playing out of his mind since the VA Tech game. He won't be back next year neither will Mbakwe but the good news is you'll have your whole bench back next year. Dre, EE, Oto, Chip and Mav.. plus 2 good freshmen in Ellenson and Buggs. If you have a healthy Big Mo, you'll be in great shape!

Coleman is a good player. He doesn't get rattled, sinks free throws in the clutch, has great athleticism and confidence. He's everything a coach loves. He hustles, has toughness, great ability and doesn't complain. The only things this kid lacks is great handles and a consistent 3 point shot. He has everything else. His handles don't have to be great but he just needs more confidence there and the same with his 3 point shot, he just needs more chances to develop that confidence because his form is perfect. It's because he played inside all his high school career. Regardless, he's proven in 3 games he's a player that must play the maximum minutes possible.

Book it huh? You just hope he wont be back next year because you're (notagopherfan).

Ok. Let's slow down here. This is how players fall apart from pressure. Three very good games in a row and he is an All American candidate (someday). How can u really type that with a straight face. Relax. Enjoy his performance and continue supporting g the team. But hold off on the all American stuff. Ridiculous.

I guess every player in the country is technically an all American candidate since Division I players are eligible.

I don't know about this All American stuff, but I've been saying he'd be a very good player & that we have an exciting young nucleus. Coleman is a nice fit on the #1 squad because it gives Tubby a natural scorer. We can't play from behind every game & hope to do any damage. That said this is a painfully young squad & we'll have some ups & downs all year long. I'm still not expecting an NCAA birth this year, just having fun watching the young guys develop.

If you're going to create a 2nd account, you might want to actually say something different than your other moniker if you want people to think you are actually different people.

Wasn't Caruth the player that created so many problems that he had to trasfer out. Marvin Stone seems like I read somewhere that he transferred from UK to UL and did not do much their either, at one time was a good player Randolph Morris he signed up for the NBA and seems like Tubby had to find some fax papers to get him out so he could come back and play another year at UK.Rondo was a great point guard but I but I think due to his and Tubby's disagreements he wen pro after his second year. I hope you will excuse my writing I have taken a sleeping pill and it is about to put me to sleep Good night all .

Why would he even do that? Freaky! Maybe he had a dual personality.

Very nice start to his career. I've found myself wondering what Dan would have been like with Joe's motor. Maybe Ralph has a younger brother too?

I think they are two separate people, but banjo, a new poster, didn't know how to use the quote function, so he just copied and pasted notagopherfan's post, and then made another post in response to it.

I would agree at this point in time. Joe plays great at both ends of the floor and could absolutely end up being an all big ten player by his junior or senior year. He is playing the spark role we really needed when Trevor went down. Coleman seems to be one of the players who could dictate how the rest of the season is going to play out.

It's pretty well documented that Rondo and tubby didn't see eye to eye. For what it's worth, it wasn't better his first few years in the NBA. Tubby knew this though, put the ball in his hands at the end of a close game. Right now minnesota doesn't have that guy but coleman might be it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loving the Coleman experiment in the starting lineup like the rest of us, and I'll admit up front I didn't think he'd work out as well as a starter right away (especially defensively), but I wanted to see his minutes bumped up to 15-18/game (calling for that as early as the CMU game). But the kid has risen to the challenge so far, he reminds me of Lawrence Westbrook, as an aggressor scoring the ball, but with more upside and hops.

Now let's just make sure we don't get into panic mode if he struggles a game or two down the stretch here.

Boundout- I'm not sure if you intended it, but I am almost certain IIRC that "A Star is Born" was the exact title for a front page sports section article on uncle Ben Coleman the day after he put up 27 points as a freshman Gopher.

Speaking of Ben, that's something else I learned from the broadcast yesterday.

If your uncle was a Gopher and your brother was a Gopher, that makes you a 3rd generation Gopher!

I caught that as well.

I said the same thing the other night. I think both are smaller than their listed height. Westbrook was listed at 6'0, but I bet he was closer to 5'10, and Coleman at 6'4, but I see 6'2 more accurate. But both are bulls and too strong for most college guards to handle physically when they put the ball on the floor. Coleman is exactly what we lacked last year, a guy who can create his own shot, just as we miss Hoffarber's quick release behind the arc this year.

What took Tubby so long to give him more than 5 mins a game?

Maybe Tubby doesn't give minutes but rather players earn them? I know earlier in the season he had some defensive struggles (natural for a Freshman), if a player is a liability on Defense, their Offense is irrelevant.
