St. Thomas

Far, far greater annoyance to me is seeing tons of activity on a thread...only to click on it and we are talking about waay different things than the title. And if you want to find news on the title you have to skim through those posts.
Sometimes the tangent is even very entertaining but it still needs it's own thread.
Pretty sure most St Thomas threads get quite a few clicks?
I'm chafed Selection Sunday's St Thomas-Gopher Roster thread got axed. It had great content.
The Niko introductory press conference was dominated by: Are you going to play St Thomas?!
It's relevant to Gopher basketball. We get far more Wisconsin basketball discussion than St Thomas....it's relevant to Gopher basketball. I'm afraid to ask...we going to ban that next? Then Iowa?
Again, there are lots of threads I don't click on...just scroll by. But let people post what they want in a title. If people have interest it'll stick. If not it'll disappear in a day.
Appreciate the thoughts. Thank you.

Full disclosure. I was the one that axed the Gophers-UST roster thread. GH/the mods had nothing to do with it. I got sick of the petty douchebags chiming in, so made the decision (alone) to just end it.

Thank you, I appreciate knowing that and understand your decision. I have made some posts that people don't like for one reason or another and years later certain people still are ridiculing me for their/my difference of opinion. They don't give up...easy to relate. Thank you. Love the stuff you post!

I do not have any connection to St Thomas but yet somehow, I find their move to D1 to be interesting and exciting. I find that reading about the achievement of this program to be a refreshing break from the constant futility and disappointment that has been provided by our beloved favorite team. I enjoy reading about it here. I am bored by posts that demand news about St Thomas be excluded from this forum yet I can understand that sentiment. I love the Twolves site. I would be very happy to see a similar site for St Thomas begun on this forum.

I can accept a separate forum, or an "All Things St Thomas" thread in the sports off-topic forum.

I'm interested and curious about St Thomas basketball. I prefer it to be on the Gopher basketball page...you can scroll by it if you're not interested
They are the only other DI basketball school in Minnesota. I like knowing what is going on but I'm not likely to search for them in the other topics board.
I like Gopher baseball and softball but rarely sift through other Gopher sports.

Agree. I find Tommie info interesting. Handy when it's on this page.
Would feel differently if Tommies were a Gopher rival.

This forum is essentially amateur basketball discussion with emphasis and primary focus on the Gophers. It says as much in the description of the thread. I don't care much for the d2/d3 or high school threads in this forum, so I don't read them. Why do we need an exception for UST? The gopher to UST ratio for content is at least 50 to 1. You have to go out of your way to be upset about it.

I kind of like the St Thomas talk. It is basketball specific, thsu focused.

Gives a different angle than BG10 D1 that feels relevant to Gophers bball.

Plus, talking about the Summit is nice to read. All the fans that do it appear to know some things.

The only complaint would be the combo St Thomas/Gopher roster theead I liked to know both roster info, but it got a little confusing when reading at times, which one was being discussed.

I agree. Put the D2/D3 and St Thomas in the Off Topic Sports section. That's the correct forum.

I am stepping into a minefield here.

What would members think about a separate St. Thomas news in the other subjects?

I have no opinion either way.
While at it why don’t we have the Augsburg, st John’s, Duluth, Morris etc, etc here? Just stupid!! St Thomas can have their crap at their site and not take up ink here!!

I'm waiting for Prairie A&M and Delta State

I know a guy who knows the Morris head coach-- I can see if we can get any inside information. Not to be used for gambling purposes, of course

Honestly, it depends on how you want to run a board. I’m pretty agnostic to where threads go and if they go off topic. If we want all non-gopher related college basketball threads to their own forum, thst makes sense. Moving just UST threads seems odd.
Yeah. For some reason threads about UST go but threads about USC, NC State, etc stay?

It is not now comparable to X and Cincy, but that is because the two teams reside at different levels. St Thomas wants to go higher and that could mean that in the future there is a rivalry instead of a big brother/little brother relationship. At some point Gopher fans are going to tire of St Thomas threads and that point may be nearing. I don't much care as it is easy to skip by it.
The best thing on this board is anti UST people bumping UsT threads

The best thing will be the mods moving all UST to the off-topic sports board.
If it’s basketball related to the college game or Gophers basketball, go ahead? That’s the title of this section of the forum. If you don’t like the St Thomas stuff don’t read it. And I’m not a St Thomas fan either. People need to just ignore what you don’t like. I don’t even waste time putting people on ignore. Just pass the comments by.

Yes one is more likely to get nipped in the heels when running 🏃‍♂️away scared. from (UST 🏀 ) something … 🤷🏾‍♂️

I actually think GH would be acknowledging UST more by giving it its own Off Topic bold printed UST headline.. that would be awesome… so you go to GH scroll down and bam ..big bold black print UST…..

Really?

This is a place for University of Minnesota fans to get information and have some discussion about their teams.

Every team has their own sites, if UST doesn't have a site then create one.

The last thing we want is to attract a bunch of misguided tommie fans to this board and have them contaminate all of the other threads with their unrelated boasting of UST's latest win over a Little Sisters of the Poor school.

Why don't we have a thread on Hamline basketball?
Why don't we have a thread on NDSU basketball?
Why don't we have a thread on UConn basketball?
etc....

Because of all the people that read Gopherhole, very few people give a shit about those teams! And if they did, they would go to that team's site to get the local info.

PS. And I am an UST alum

Very well put

We are going to create a Off-Topic St. Thomas/Summit League Basketball Board for those that want to specifically discuss St. Thomas and/or Summit League Basketball. We will not do this for other teams or leagues but it's clear there is distinct interest in St. Thomas specifically and it is also clear that there are Gopher fans that are unable to not click a St. Thomas thread without getting upset. So this allows an expansion of St. Thomas/Summit League discussion and won't impact the Gopher Basketball Forum (which will continue to include college basketball discussion in general), in fact it should eliminate the angst that some have when a St. Thomas discussion pops up.

We appreciate the feedback and believe this will allow continued Gopher Basketball and college basketball discussion without distraction of St. Thomas/Summit League on this forum.

As with all new ideas, we reserve the right to change course as we evaluate the effectiveness of the new Board which we anticipate will be live in the next week or so.

Thank you.
