1) Will be meeting with some high school juniors/recruits that are visiting the U this weekend. For that reason his segment on the Sports Huddle was abbreviated.

2) He flew out to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan Friday night. He participated in a Nike football clinic. He said he loves talking football and sharing ideas. Looking forward to the Minnesota high school clinic during spring drills.

3) Minnesota offensive staff has been at TCU this past week visiting with their offensive staff and the defensive staff has been visiting Mississippi State University and Alabama, where the staff has built relationships. They're at the schools to learn and get more ideas and improve their coaching and improve the team.

4) Talked briefly about his longtime relationship (personal and coaching) with TCU head coach, Gary Patterson.

5) His philosophy about being on-time: "We want to make them better men for the real world." (If the meeting is scheduled for 6:00 a.m., you should be there at 5:55 a.m.)

6) Academics: "We're staying on top of them . . . we're seeing some improvement . . . we'll know more after the semester (long haul) and spring ball."

7) Winter drills: "We've been trying to make them better athletes. We've seen a change in their bodies." Coaches and players are looking forward to the spring break.

8) Talked about cancer fund raising efforts (cancer research and assistance for cancer victims). He saluted his wife for her organizational efforts. An event will take place soon at northern Illinois. Also talked about the importance of giving back to the community. Has been impressed with the Mpls community in giving back to others.

Go Gophers!!

I am a little confused. The offense is at TCU and the defense is at MSU and Alabama?

Not trying to imply anything with this question, but is there a Mason or Brewster precedent for this sort of thing? I simply don't recall hearing anything like this from them.

They didn't have to do that, they already knew everything. :banghead:

You were right to ask that question, MrGopher. Otherwise, we all might have to worry about going an entire weekend without some GopherHoler hijacking a thread by taking a shot at either Mason or Brewster.

My only question is why didn't you ask the same thing about all the Gopher's coaches going back to Murray Warmath? I am really interested to find out if Joe Salem's staff did the same thing as Kill's staff is doing?

Short memory. Horton was going to spend time at Nevada working on the pistol for Gray.

I know for sure that Mason did it several times with other schools/coaches he had relationships with and also had several SEC schools spend time with the O stafff after the Music City Bowl when we were able to rush on Alabama's defense (they hadn't given up a 100 yard rusher all season, we had two) -- as well as several teams trying to implement the zone blocking schemes in that offense at various points over the years.

Mason's broader involvement in the coaching world was at play there.

I do recall Brewster spent some time doing the same, as well. This is not all that unusual.

Sorry, Padre, I did cross a line there. I await your forgiveness for my insolence, and my just penance.

I asked about Mason and Brewster because they are the only Gopher coaches I have followed with any substantial degree of commitment. But you are right, I forgot that their names are forbidden.

Again, I apologize, and it makes my heart soar to know that we have a Holy Father brave enough to take on the heavy burden of calling out those who ask genuine questions, and don't know they are crossing your personal boundaries; boundaries which are, of course, infallible.

Amen.

Mason's Oline blocking schemes were completely awesome.

For 3 1/2 quarters.

Yep agreed. This was my biggest reason for being agreeable to the change we had to Brew...but that didn't work out either.

Hoping we can be better than Mason's, Holtz's or Stoll's teams with Coach Kill.

Back to the original post about awesome line schemes. They were a joy to watch most of the time.

Just too many 3rd and 3 with 2 minutes left the we couldn't get a 1st down to ice the game for me.

Go Gophers!

Almost all coaching staffs do this. Where they go is usually driven by personal contacts with the staffs of the other schools. Sabans' teams play great D and the MSU D coord.
was hired for the same position at Texas.

Correct, and coaching staffs fro D2 and D3 schools travel around visiting D1 programs. Personal contacts, as well as similarily run schemes, or schemes that are of interest to visiting staffs (learn from each other on how to run them better), all influence visit locations.

I would assume they did. At all levels of coaching stuff like this goes on.

I understand your frustration of people turning every post into a Mason and/or Brewster assault, but I thought this was a pretty ligit question. He even prefaced it by saying he wasn't trying to start anything. Yes past is past, but I also was wondering if previous coaches had done that and that curiosity wasn't because I wanted to take shots at them. I just wanted to know how common that was or if it's a new thing or whatever.

Sometimes a question about a prior coach's tenure is simply just trying to put perspective on how common an event is, not a personal assault...

Get a life. He asked a legit question. Message board police...is there anything more pathetic? Get a hobby or something.
