The Badgers, who finished the regular season at 5-7, also signed a pair of quarterbacks during the early signing period last week, adding four-star passer Carter Smith (No. 157 in the ESPN 300) and three-star quarterback Landyn Locke.
 

Badgers haven't had these type of QB recruits with this lofty of rankings since Bart Houston.....

If they didn’t turn to Mettauer this year I have to question how good he will be next year.
 



Not interested. The guy didn't look great at Miami and was nothing special for Wisconsin to start the year. Pass.
 

Van Dyke was one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the country at Miami, doubt their record would have changed at all had he not been hurt.

Agreed. Fickel's tenure at WI could be on the line, there is 0% chance he hands the keys Mettauer to salvage his run at WI. If Fickel had that much confidence in him, he would have played this year.
 



The part that seems weird to me is Wisconsin still shows up on the short list potential destination of a lot of the higher profile QB's in the portal. With a coach very much on the hot seat, or having enough buyout to be a lame duck coach for a while before being on the hot seat, if I were a top tier QB in the portal I would steer far wide of Wisconsin.

Looks like WI QB Braedyn Locke is also in the portal. Must be a new big-time QB transferring into Madison … or maybe the wheels are coming off.
 

Emptying the QB room every December is not the sign of a healthy football program

Every season Minnesota behaves more like wisconsin used to, and wisconsin starts to evoke memories of the Brewster era.
