sounds like Mullen is the guy!!

I would love it if this were true, but this doesn't seem like a guy who's planning on leaving his team in a week:

Boy, MSU sure has a first class locker room. Give me a break, if he took one step in the locker room at the Bank...I think he'd be sold.

On that note, I know it's the south, but what's the precedent for a college president addressing a football team in the locker room post-game? That seems bizarre to me.

MS Gopher your down there

Start making some calls, and if you don't know anyone find someone who does. Man start hitting the ground and shaking tea trees to see if the leaves are telling.

I have a real hard time believing this will happen. We are reportedly going to offer about 1.5 mill? That isn't much of a raise to uproot his family after two years.

Mullen’s contract, which pays $1.2 million a year, runs through the 2013 season. The state College Board approved a one-year contract extension in February.

To be honest with you, I don’t know where I would leave to go to. This is the Southeastern Conference. I don’t have any experience in the NFL and I coached in the SEC, so I don’t really know if there’s many places for me to go to.

Doogie tweet:

"A Mullen-connected source just sent me a message. Said he'd be "very surprised" if Mullen comes here."

Go Gophers!!

I know, everybody defends Doogie, and he works hard, and this has been debated ad-nauseum, but his "tweets" over the past few weeks have cited "sources" with names "to look out for" such as Randy Shannon, Larry Fedora today, and any number of others.

This "tweet" referenced above means nothing. Twitter is just a means to cover tails - if someone calls it correctly, they can take credit; if not, they say "it was just a tweet".

"surprised" means nothing; this "tweet" means nothing.

Two of the three Greatest coaches in Gophers history, Bierman and Warmath, had previously coached at Mississippi State (the other being of course Williams).

Nice locker room - where is this - Rochester John Marshall? Hire this hayseed and let's go!!

How long before we see Dan Mullen has signed a contract extension at Miss St?

I'm afraid there will be many pissed off people after they find out Mullen is not the guy. I'd love for it to be Mullen but by all accounts he's the second coming of bear bryant and those kind of candidates don't come to minny. Hope I'm wrong, but doubt it.

i can see i prob shouldn't have posted.

mods feel free to delete.

If he is the second coming of Bear Bryant, then he is not at Mississippi State.

Someone updated Mullen's Wiki page...

Mississippi State
Mullen's first recruiting class at Mississippi State was ranked #25 in the nation by Rivals.com[5] and #19 in the nation by Scout.com.[6] In his first season as head coach at Mississippi State in 2009, his team went 5–7 and won the Egg Bowl beating The School Up North, 41–27. Three players on the team were named to All-SEC Team and four players were named to All-SEC Freshmen Team.
In 2010 Mullen's Mississippi State Bulldogs beat the University of Mississippi in the Egg Bowl, making Mullen the first MSU head coach to win his first two games against The School Up North since 1940.
In 2011 Mullen will take over as the head coach of the University of Minnesota.

From what I understand, anyone can add to wiki...

I believe that is the vistitor's locker room at Ole Miss. Still hard to believe that these facilities exist in the SEC.

Word has gotten out on sixpackspeak.com.

Aside from us not getting Mullen, I just wish Mississippi State would sack up and beat LSU one of these years. If I have to be stuck in SEC country, at least give me that.

(Oh, and Dawg fans, if you get Iowa in the Outback Bowl, you can run on them. Our lowly 3-9 Gophers just pounded them for 216 yards. Good luck).

Now I really want the Gophers to get Mullen's...just to aggravate them.;)

"I doubt any of us follow Minnesota football very closely, but we have enough sense to know what their program is like." I find this quote quite hilarious. Didn't we win more games than Mississippi State last year and the year before? As Minnesota fans, we have enough sense to know what their program has been like recently.

Yeah the armpit of America and in the heart of it is making fun of us

Jike your right, but Mississippi is fairly dumpy in a lot of places.

It would be the same thing if they were trying to get a hot shot coach we had. We'd probably blast them, their state and everything else. I can understand that they'd be pissed if he left them for Minnesota.

Of course they cherry picked some of the most homer posts to make it sound like the average poster of Ghole thinks that we could get Mullen for 1.5 million because of our locker rooms.

In reality, most of us didn't think we stood a chance at getting Dan Mullen and that is why we are so pumped. We realize that it will take a big pay raise, probably (over $2 million) to get him to come to MN. Even if we gave him a huge pay raise, I think most of us would be shocked that we would be able to get someone of Mullen's caliber. It's probably not too far from the exact scenario Miss St. fans went through when they thought they were getting Petersen.

Oh well, if it happens I will be pumped (and I will completely understand their anger). If it doesn't happen, it was fun while it lasted.

Oh, fun.

I believe we already had this thread on the basketball board, only it was about West Virginia.

Let's stick to the coaching search, mmmkay?

Last night the San Diego fans were mad at us, tonight its the hicks from Mississippi. Will it be the French Canadians tomorrow. I hope not.

Maybe we should re-hire Glen Mason so we can only be mad at ourselves... :D

My sources(friend who is the janitor that cleans Maturi's office) told me that the bombshell hire that is on the list that Maturi didnt think would be interested in the job is none other than Nick Saban!

My source also told me while he was cleaning Maturi's office read a note that said Saban would be highly interested in coaching in the Big Ten if the money is right and if the "U" can afford it.

Honest?

Really? Wow! Thank you! Let's see...whatta ya think... would $10 million per year be that "right" number?

You absolutely could be telling the truth. And so could your 'friend'. But I refuse to believe you.

Just another smoke screen among many others.
