Should we have traded McDaniels instead of KAT?

Jayden is shooting under 33% from three abd us so limited offensively, thst maybe we traded the wrong player?

It’s not an either or. They didn’t trade KAT’s 2024 offensive production, they also traded his next few years contracts. No clue why people just dismiss that. His contract would have weighed on us massively.

I don't dismiss the contract at all, but it won't even be a Top 20 deal in the NBA in two (2) years. BOS has two (2) of the highest paid players in the NBA on their roster to go along with other well paid guys like Zinger, Holiday and White.

Bottom line...we salary-dumped a Top 15-ish talent for pennies on the dollar. Do we blame the ownership fiasco? The GM? Both? Don't know.

Disastrous trade...and the return for moving Randle will make the return we got for KAT look like a King's ransom.

KAT's contract had to go. It hasn't looked great so far, but let's pump the breaks on calling it a disaster only 1/4th of the way into the season.

If KAT was 3-4 years younger, it's a different conversation. But he's 29, often injured, and paying him 50-60 million the next 4 years doesn't make sense when most big men go quickly downhill after 30, especially often injured ones.

McDaniels might have to go at some point too, but he has still been very good defensively most of the season.

The player I'm most disappointed in this season is Naz Reid. He has regressed, when last season he stepped up and filled in the offensive void for KAT when he was injured. That hasn't happened this season.

The poll says it is😉

McDaniels signed a 5/$135M deal last offseason.

If he was traded, KAT’s contract isn’t so massive, when you aren’t shelling out $27M per year for a defense first SF, with negligible rebounding and offensive game. He’s a good for when you have two players who can regularly hit threes, thus spacing the floor: 🐜 and 🐈. It doesn’t work when you only have one. There’s a whole article in The Athletic, supporting this assertion. When your franchise player us frustrated and says they have no offensive identity, that equals problems for 🫎 and 🐿️ in Frostbite Falls, MN.

Additionally, in trading McDaniels we could have requested draft picks, instead of players to offset KAT’s production and worked on developing Minot and Shannon’s who’s already 24/25.

♟️ not checkers, IMO.

You used to lecture me on my negativity toward McDaniels.

Damn, man!

Now we only have 1 player who can regularly hit 3's? Last year we had 5 guys who shot over 36% from 3, Ant was the worst shooter of those 5, and 4 of them are still on the team. We still have 4 shooting at/above 36% this season. Naz and DD are not included in that group and are shooting well below what they were last season.

The shooters are there and McDaniels defense is there, but the shooters aren't shooting well. McDaniels is still making half of what KAT is. Comparing the two contracts is dumb because there is no comparison. It was never a keep KAT or keep McDaniels situation.

You really think KAT is top 15 player in the NBA?

Well, a Top 15 "talent" versus "player" are two (2) completely different discussions but I think your question is quite fair.

Neither discussion would dispute the fact that the trade was a glorified salary dump by ownership to avoid significant luxury tax payments in 2025-26.

However, they could've run it back from last year and traded KAT next off-season to still avoid those same taxes.

Disastrous trade and decision to blow up the roster considering what this team built and accomplished last season.

The article explains the premise, detailing the shooting woes from 3 and how much lower the regular rotational players are shooting this year compared to last year, other than Ant and how this has effected the spacing on the floor for him driving.

My mistake was thinking you might spend a few bucks to subscribe to a sports publication which uses analytics, much more than any other I’ve seen and that as someone who says they work with data for a living that would be in your bailiwick 🤷‍♂️

Are you sure you’re not a rhetorician, by trade? 😃

I know the holidays can be hard: so here’s one 🤗for you and Mr.Whiskers 🐈‍⬛ 😉

Lol why would I subscribe to the pathetic and overly biased NY Times? There's not just one way to view analytics.

There is no comparison between trading two radically different players and radically different contracts. It's a stupid premise to begin with, which is why no surprise, it came from you.

Best sports writing out there, across the board. $1/month seems very reasonable.

The NYT obviously isn’t writing sports articles for The Athletic🤦‍♂️; maybe Mr. Whiskers can explain it to you purrfectly😘

A proponent of Fuzzy Math🧐

I feel sorry that you resort to name calling and churlish behavior on something which is fun and jovial for many.

Just remember God and I both love you; may you find His peace for your life.

I’ll just go back to ignoring you again 🤗

Totally fair take at this point they definitely could have ran it back another year. Biggest thing with Randle is the ball just sticks to him to long and when he does pass it's a couple seconds too late where as KAT had much better vision finding the open man. The flip side is his ability to go get his has bailed us out at times, especially when Ant has been off. I will say if Divenchenzo can stay hot and be something in between the way that he started and what he's been doing the last couple of nights the trade will start to look better. I think long-term Randle will not be here for long, but Divenchenzo can absolutely be a piece if he can be consistent off the bench.

Read an article where he said his head was basically spinning after the trade because he thought he had found a home.

Later he said, he loves playing here as the team is great and has supported him, despite his struggles.

I think we forgot that these guys are humans and subject to insecurities/fears we all are. Moving/starting work at a new job or two of the biggest stressors people can go through; now imagine that 4 times in 4 years 🤯.

I’m going to post the crux of an article from a NBA trade guru from the Athletic, explaining why Randle may end up staying here for less money and more years.

The wolves used to have one guy (Edwards) with sticky hands. Now they have two of the stickiest guys in the NBA, It affects everything. When the ball moves and the players are moving there are more open looks and easy baskets. When the ball sticks things get stagnant and the open looks dry up.

Watched the first three quarters and the clearly outplayed them in the first half and part of the third quarter and sloppy ball 🏀 was horrific for the rest of the 3Q.

Time for the to nut up and best the Celtics tomorrow st home and I’ll be happy with 4 out of these 5 and build from there.

F the Hero Ball Ant -pass that pill.
