Shedeur Sanders’ Slide in NFL Draft Cost Him $44 Million

I appreciate your thoghtful reply.

Born and raised Catholic, my friend.

Mercy in my experience having been both Catholic and Protestant, isn’t a topic which is frequently discussed, despite Jesus’ last words before he died.

To clarify, I never said it did. I try not to judge others behavior (Lest yee judge, not Yee be judged) and fall short all the time of course.

I don’t feel I’m qualified to pass judgment on Shedeur or anyone else for that matter, as it abdicates, me looking at my sins (speck in the brother’s eye vs. beam in mine).

I never said it’s a free pass to keep sinning, but God knows where one’s hearts is (I don’t) and if one really wants to change/be transformed, from their state of sinfulness.

It’s really not my logic forgiving murders, it’s God’s teaching -

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Luke 23:34 (NIV)

Forgiving the people who tortured and killed you - what a God we serve😀

Also, Moses was a murder (Exodus 2:11-15) and David had the husband of Bathsheba, Uriah, put in the front lines, so he would die and he could marry her after previously impregnating her (2 Samuel 11:2-27).

The simplest way for me to look at it -

God loves me, not because I’m good, but because he is.

His gift to me is His Mercy, Grace and Love and my gift back to him is what do I do with it.

If you’re an Audible guy, Pope Francis has an excellent one, The Name of God is Mercy.

Have a great weekend and have fun at church tomorrow. God Bless
Get this crap off the football board. DMs and off topic boards exist for this reason.

Crap is a bit strong.
I agree, the football board is for talking football. But, NYC isn't talking crap, he's just on the wrong board, like you said.

However, it seems young Shaduer could really use a higher power to bring up that stat line. Yikes! 🤯

He went 3 of 6 today for 14 yards and 5 sacks.

Just like Johnny football.....he is gong to learn real quick that you can't get away with running around like that in the NFL.....defenders are just too good.

Browns are going to be dreadful this year with their horrible QB situation.

Yup, you see it time and again. Some hot shot shows up in the NFL and learns that the clock to make decisions runs like 2x as fast.

Usually you see it in running backs. They try that one or two extra steps to delay and find a hole and suddenly realize that time has run out.

Yes, and of course it isn't a coincidence that both Johnny Football and and Sanders learned these lessons with the same team that never seems to learn lessons of its own when it comes to personnel.

Like drafting two QBs the year before you're almost a lock to get the #1 overall pick and Arch Manning. Two mid round offensive lineman would have been better.

But hey, they're only starting a 40 something year old who was in his prime and won a super bowl 13 years ago or whatever. No biggie.

Funny thing is these people making the Sanders thing a race thing and pointing out all of the accolades. Well how about these guys who achieved more than he did in college.

Danny Wuerffel, Heisman winner, national champ (4th rd pick)
Geno Torretta, Heisman winner, 2x national champ (7th rd pick)
Doug Flutie, Heisman winner (11th rd pick)
Ty Detmer, Heisman winner (9th rd pick)
Jason White, Hiesman winner & National champ (undrafted)

And it couldn't happen to a more deserving team after they decided to tie themselves to Deshaun Watson despite the red flags.

I'm not sure Arch is a #1 overall lock.

I haven't seen many going to the race card on this one. If Shadeur had a different father he wouldn't have gotten anywhere close to the same level of hype and probably would have been drafted in roughly the same spot and nobody would have given it a second thought.

There was a time when having a black QB was rare.....but those days are long gone.

Yeah, that will all come down to what team ends up at 1 and if they need a QB but if he is anywhere close to as good as he is supposed to be it seems very likely he is the first QB off the board and that usually means at or very close to #1 overall.

But he still has to prove it this year.

What have you been paying attention to if you don't see people making a race issue about it? 😂

He looked pretty average in the games he played last year. We'll have to see if he has made a jump to elite status and he'll be tested for sure game 1.

Deon made a few statements about race a while back, but beyond that I haven't heard much either.

Around the draft all sorts of people in the media were making it a race issue. Do you guys live under a rock?
We're on the internet here. Somewhere someone is saying every possible thing. So I don't doubt someone said a thing.

However, I'll worry about it when someone in power, or someone I think puts some effort to think about things says the thing. I can't chase every NFL morn looking for tweets and clicks and attention.

Using that measuring stick I saw none of it, and my brain is probably heather because of it.

More just the usual suspects. Jason Whitlock, Jemelle Hill. But they make everything about race, so take it with a grain of salt.

I’ve seen more outrage from Kiper, Orlovsky etc.. they are mad because they spent so much time hyping him and it turns out the NFL didn’t value him near the same. So instead of admitting they were very wrong and didn’t have a good pulse on his value they make it sound like it was either some massive mistake or a conspiracy.

IDK, it's not just random idiots on social media, they have talking head on ESPN and other major networks saying this stuff.

I get it, ESPN is a "big deal" but their bar for saying things is literally 0. There's no reason to take them seriously.

Mentioning Whitlock and Jemelle Hill in the same sentence is wild as they're polar opposites.

Also, while I don't personally think race was much of a factor in the Sanders situation, the folks that somehow manage to act offended at the suggestion that race is an issue are hilarious to me. They get way more up in arms about the idea of unfounded accusations of racism than they do about the actual factual racism and affects of it that are all over the place.

Also, all those

All these guys played before the mock draft boom and before social media. Also pretty much all of these guys had known and obvious weaknesses everyone knew about and most played in offenses that weren't considered pro style. So no offense but that's kind of a weak argument. The reality is that this was more about the mock draft media than anything else. And the truth is that however you want to label it, Sanders being a brash, cocky, jewelry wearing black kid was seen as a 'flag' for a lot of folks. What roll it played in NFL teams evaluations is impossible to tell. What I will say is that it's clear he has real physical limitations and that's the biggest, most obvious factor in him being a late round pick

To me this was the bigger thing. Some had hyped Sanders to a ridiculous level and had him pegged as a first round top of the draft guy which was foolish because he was nowhere close to good enough to justify a pick that high. So they had to make it look like some sort of conspiracy in order to not look like morons for the tongue bath they gave him leading up to the draft.

And yeah, there will always be those that try to make everything about race in the media and online....but I just don't see that as a factor here....If teams believed he was destined for stardom it wouldn't have mattered what color his skin was. The fact of the matter is that he has massive bust potential written all over him and teams clearly felt that was the case. Browns got him at a point where if he somehow pans out they got a good value but if he doesn't it was a small investment.

Think we are well past the point where it matters what color skin a QB has in the NFL and college. There are tons of successful black QBs at both levels.

Yes, they all had weaknesses and that's why they went where they did. Same for Sandrs. That's the whole damn point! But all of these guys achieved as much or more than he did in college.

Yes, being a jackass hurt his draft stock because that is not a trait valued in the leader of your team.

I think there will always be polarizing because of his playing style. Manziel being the other glaring example. The scrambling gunslinger is fun to watch and very effective in college and it makes sense that we want that style to be effective in the NFL, but it just isn’t.
