Shama: Kill: Gopher Program Needs More Time

Dr.Don - Thanks for the laugh and explanation. Another way of saying it is no matter what you say or don't say you are going to piss somebody off.

FIFY and you are totally correct, Killjoy.

Thanks again for the laugh and the FIFY! I could say that with your FIFY you made my point but that wouldn't be the case.

Here is what I have found out here of GH:

A) Coach makes a statement, and our over analyzers read between the lines and interpret not what he said, but what he didn't say. They then turn a statement into several posts of interpreting what he said "between the lines."

B) Coach doesn't make a statement, then our over analyzers take what he didn't say and interpret what he didn't say into several posts of "reading between the lines".

Therefore, it gives old farts like station, you, and me heavy duty concussions from severe head shaking brain contact from side to side contact with our skulls.

Thanks again Dr.Don - I feel like I just visited Lucy's help stand in Peanuts and definitely got my 5 cents worth. Much appreciated.

Just think, Killjoy...all of that free information from a retired proctologist who has seen it all. :)

As far as Kill's support - there are really 3 groups to consider.

The hard-core fans (including Gopher hole) understand the challenges facing the program, and are willing to give Kill time to put his program in place - at least 4 to 5 years.

The casual/skeptic fans, who don't follow the program closely. All they know is what they read/hear in the media.
They are less likely to be impressed or satisfied with a 6 or 7 win season and a low-tier bowl game.

The media who (except for Sid) are locked into their routine of "The Gophers Stink, and they will always stink."
Nothing short of a huge season - 9 or 10 wins, and a major bowl victory, will get the Reusse's and Souhans of the world to change their tune.

Bottom line - The Gopher FB program is a little like those ink blots they show to mental patients - everybody seems to see what they want to see.

He's already said that several times, but if he says it too many times then commentors will complain about him saying it too often. Coach can't win by saying anything at all, and then if he said nothing, commentors would complain that he doesn't say enough.

:banghead:

Maybe I should be clear. I'm not pissed off in any way regarding Kill. I was just pointing out that if you keep saying the same thing, it starts to ring in the head of the slightly-more-than-casual fan and starts sounding like an excuse. Granted, it's different than what Mason said and perhaps as importantly, how it is said. I'm not a diehard, but I follow the Gophers closely and maybe I'm projecting my feelings onto the casual fan. I know that it's going to take some time. That's pretty evident given what Kill inherited on a number of levels. If the casual fan can't grasp that, what's the use in continuing to say it? I guess I'm for framing the situation in the positive.

4,227 posts says you qualified for diehard status 227 posts ago. I put myself in the 1st group; I support JK but know in my heart that avg 2 BT wins/yr will get you fired.

4.228 posts simply says I like to yammer on about stuff. What I meant to say is that my week isn't ruined when the Gophers lose.

Fair or not, I think a sub-.500 overall record + more time missed w/health problems = the conversation will change for a lot of folks.

Hopefully Coach Kill can stay healthy for the full season, but history says that might be wishful thinking.

If he doesn't stay heathy I'm comfortable with the assistants covering for him. They have been with him forever and they know how he coaches and how to take over. With Kill its just something we will deal with every year....but I'm ok with that as a fan.

We don't know we will have more health problems. Recent history does show problems, but that may be an outlier. Hope so (but don't care, assuming he is mostly ok).

It's not an outlier. He's suddenly missed time in at least 5 of the last 8 seasons and he has had the same issues for decades.

Most people don't know/don't care about his health history all that much. That tide started to turn a little bit last year and I think you'll see a big shift in the thinking of people this year if/when there are in-season hospitalizations or in-game episodes... unless the team is doing well.

Hope he stays healthy and wins a lot, but wouldn't bank on either.

You are right. Most people, including yourself, don't know/understand Kill's health Issues. If you did you would know that they are very manageable. It is a non-issue.

Most people don't/know understand? But of course your one of those that does understand all things Jerry Kill related.

That is what he likes to believe. Though he probably hadn't even heard his name 5 years ago but today likes to portray that he understands all that is Jerry Kill.

LOL - So does that mean you hated Kill for 5 years now? By the way, Kill is not that complicated so if you haven't figured him out yet, think about what that says about you.

Actually I like Kill for the most part. I am just not ready to proclaim him the savior yet like you are on everything. You appear to think that anyone that questions Kill on anything is either a troll or just can't understand the genius that Kill is like you can. I am pretty sure that i can mentally keep up with a old man like yourself who spends his days chasing Wren around like a girl dumped at the prom. i would also bet that Kill could sell you oceanfront property in North Dakota you are so gullible to anything he says. When is Kill coming over for dinner since you and him are such close personal friends.

If a head coach missing a week of practice most seasons is a non-issue, why does he feel the need to work "16 to 18 hours a day"? If your head coach being unable to return to coach for the second half of a game is a non-issue, do you really need a head coach?

Fact is, it's a major issue for some people. It'll become a bigger issue for others if it continues without victories.

If you've heard Kill talk about his health, since then end of last year, you'd understand why I believe it's a non-issue going forward.

This discussion is going no where. I must say though it isn't just me who has accursed you of being negative when comes to coach Kill. On one string several people said that they thought you were one of the most negative people here. You are right though, I do like coach Kill but I always said that time will tell if he is the solution. I have also said that coach Kill seems to be doing all the right things and therefore he deserves enough time to determine whether he can turn the program around or not. So you are right I am guilty of these things.

It is also clear that you and I have different perspectives which I doubt are going to change in the near future. Therefore, instead of us wasting any more of our time I think we should just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

My, oh my, oh my, oh my we have progressed a long way.... Naught....

All of this nonsense of posters who scream that anyone who has the common sense to "wait and see..." is an enemy of the leadership of the program is an enemy of the state...hates apple pie, motherhood and the gross domestic product and should be banished for not singing the company tune and kowtowing to the administrators current official press releases is just that...nonsense. Stick to you guns and say what you think GopherGod. Go ahead and see what the Conference Record looks like. It is good to wait to see how often the team is invited to bowl games...how often they win bowl games...how attendance in the 50.000 seat stadium looks...how many students show up for late October and November home games. No one who always attempts to be the spokesperson for a fan base should be attempting to 'hound-dog" other fans who honestly state their opinions. It is fine to disagree with others on this type of message board. It promotes discussion and encourages diversity of opinion and point of view. Contrasting views need to be welcomed...not "ganged up..." upon by a few others.

Coach Kill can and will stand on his record. I am hoping that he will be wildly successful. However, I will watch to see what the conference standings tell me. I will watch to see how many bowl invitations are extended to the U under Coach Kill's direction. The Conference standings will tell us exactly where this program ranks against fellow B1G Programs. It is a fair system. It is an exact system. It is the only system that preserves the record of what actually has happened...

Coach Kill doesn't need a handler or a "spinner..." Coach Kill will stand on his own record. In the end, that is how all B1G Coaches will be remembered...

I'll remember Big Ten coach Rickey Birdsong for acting like a bird and going up and down the stairs at Williams. RIP
students started to chant 'birdsong's nuts'

I thought Wren was banned? It's been a while since i've been on GH and I come back to see the same long winded manifestos festering in seemingly every thread.

Don't worry, you're just having a nightmare. At least that is what I am hoping!;)
