Shadow Speaks

Hey, I'm just responding to scools' post. No endorsement or disclaimer here!

What I do know is I'll get behind whoever they hire and not P&M about it for a second. Bo Ryan was Richter's 3rd or 4th choice (I think), and that's worked out pretty well for the Red Menace. Everyone seems to be in love with Teague, so I assume those same folks will still love him if it's not Shaka or Flip?

I'm just anxious to get the new guy and move forward.

I actually know Pat Richter. He and I worked together on a project and he was next door neighbors to one of my best friends and he told me the story. Bo Ryan was actually there seventh choice. Majarus was the first choice but his mother was having health issues and he would not take the job. Majarus actually lived with his mother. Ben Braun was their second choice, but they were building a new facility for him. Strangely enough even though it was a pain in the ass for him, I think he did fine in the hiring. He did say that their were forces inside the athletic department that were fighting to Bo hire. He never said who was against it but I got the feeling it was Dick Bennett even though he was not there. I know that Tony does not like Bo.

It might not be a perfect comparison, but Flip seems like the Bo in this story. Probably wants the job more than anyone but isn't taken seriously by some.

I also believe.............

they will have to answer to some for firing the most preeminent (IMHO) black coach in America in Tubby Smith. That's why Shaka get the full court press (also 'cause he's pretty damn good) Stevens or Saunders after him are the only white men who they won't have to answer for.

I believe Wichita State's Gregg Marshall and Florida Gulf Coast's Andy Enfield are two great coaches to consider.

Respectfully Lefty, two of our last three head coaches (Clem and Tubby) were black. I don't think Teague (or the U) will need to apologize if the skin color of their new men's basketball coach is white. Both Clem and Tubby were highly respected men when they were hired by the U. One (Tubby) still is.

Why should it be the UofM's responsibility to hire a black coach...maybe Northwestern should take their turn

Answer to who exactly? They didn't fire him because he's African American. Obviously some halfwits are going to scream racism and there will be a few tsk tsk articles written, but these guys aren't going to lose their jobs or be ostracized in any way for firing Tubby Smith for doing a lousy job running our basketball program.

Yeah, hopefully the media won't be obtuse enough to bring up racism here (CJ probably will)

Stallings initially committed to the U out of HS but de-committed after Dutcher recruited over him in the same class. It's been a couple of decades so I guess we can forgive him now!

Go Gophers!!

Same class as Tucker, Mitchel, Rautins, Hall, Holmes. Who am I missing.
