My Dark Friend, The Shadow, was excited when he called me from his cell phone this morning. He loves going to Minneapolis, and was beginning to pack his bags for a return flight "home". He wanted to get a leg up on everybody so he will be back home when this story breaks.

Shaka Smart will NOT be the next head coach. He will remain at VCU and talks were never serious. Smart has other plans out "East" and will wait. Teague knew this long ago. This did not stop Teague from moving forward. Boosters had his back with this knowledge and are committed to facility upgrades without Smart.

Flip is not at the top of the list. He is a fall back option.

The coach currently at the top of the list has an offer on the table. He is not an assistant and is a proven winner as a head coach. If he accepts the job he might not be the favorite name choice out there but will excite people as his resume is viewed.

Gopher fans may know by 5pm today if he accepts. If the offer is not accepted and made public today, the next coach may not be announced for numerous day. All eggs are in this basket currently.

More to come tonight. The Shadow has spoken.

2/10, would not believe or read again

GH is becoming unreadable. Too many wannabe insiders/comics flooding every thread.

When I read posts like this it makes me want to create a new login and write my own stuff. I look to this forum for entertainment. The past few days have been very entertaining to say the least.

Yea, regardless of being trolled or not, this has been one of the funnest weeks to be on GH

Nice try "Shadow". You are not even a richmondinsider wannabe.

No troll here. Look no further than the SEC. You will find your next Gopher coach there.

I have a shadow too. Never has any good inside information.

I knew Norwood wanted a look-alike! Oh well, Kevin Stallings it is. But seriously, if it's Anthony Grant I will be slightly underwhelmed.

Is it Kevin Stallings?

Midwest background (Collinsville, Ill.) who attended Purdue. Would guess he's always had interest in coaching in the Big Ten?

Well, at least you got the FS right...he is more than likely a fall back option, though he is a much better head coach than given credit for.

How old is he? That would be the main drawback in my mind...We just tried an old coach from the SEC.

Antony Grant is a fantastic coach. He doesn't have he buzz of Shaka Smart but he has had a lot of success everywhere he's gone. He won the conference all three years at VCU and then has done a real nice job in Alabama (39-27 conference record). Additionally, in his last three years in Alabama he has recruited 2 5 star athletes and 5 4 star players to his squad.

Anthony Grant or no one.

Dude will win 28+ games next year and compete for the SEC title if he doesn't leave before then.

He's 52. I saw him play in the Illinois State Tournament in the late 70's. I like his Midwest/Big Ten background (also was an assistant under Keady) and he also was an assistant at Kansas under Larry Brown during Danny & the Miracles.

Wouldn't excite the Gopher masses by any means, he's not young & hip like everyone wants, but Stallings would be a good hire, in my opinion. That said, Grant would be even better.

Grant is on some lists as potential HC at MN. We will see...

Stallings initially committed to the U out of HS but de-committed after Dutcher recruited over him in the same class. It's been a couple of decades so I guess we can forgive him now!

Go Gophers!!

I don't buy this person's take. I like the richmondinsider take better. Like I said yesterday, Flip is not the freshest nor the upincoming hot coach of today but he would be a great fit at the U. Smart would be excellent but a year or two from now if he doesn't move to a bigger program, he will not get the opportunities that are presenting themselves now. Teague/Ellis: forget the Villa Ice 7 and go with a trusted brand: Flip Saunders, Inc.

Why didn't see you say Anthony Grant in your first post?

If you are going to lace up the spikes and get into the batter box then you need to swing for the fences.

I happen to believe Anthony Grant will be our guy, but I have no sources what-so-ever. But you should have just spilled the name up front and not do this goofy post without giving us a name.

Just a heads-up for next time.

Flip is not a trusted brand. He's basically never coached college basketball, never recruited, and has been a complete disaster at developing players in the NBA. Even if you like Flip, it's not a know brand. He's the biggest unknown of the bunch.
