She'll reset that mark a few more times. Unbelievable athlete. Wish it had been an all-Williams final. Not sure Venus will have many more shots.

ESPN: Serena Williams expecting a baby this fall, won't play again in 2017

It's another love game for Serena Williams: She is pregnant -- and, based on the timeline she offered, she already was when she won the Australian Open.

A spokeswoman for Williams, Kelly Bush Novak, wrote in an email to ESPN and other media on Wednesday: "I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this Fall."

The 23-time major champion will not play again in 2017 due to her pregnancy and plans to return in 2018.

per SkySports:

Serena Williams is set to make her tennis comeback at the Australian Open with her return to Melbourne for the season's opening Grand Slam "very likely".

Williams, 36, won this year's first Slam while pregnant, beating her sister Venus in the final, and gave birth to a baby girl in September.

She has not played competitively since Melbourne, raising questions over whether the 23-time Slam winner would attempt to defend her title next month and equal Australian Margaret Court's singles record of 24 major titles.

Tiley declared that Williams's return to tennis in Melbourne was "very likely".

"She's got her visa, she's entered, she's practising and she's probably just got to find a bit more space for a bigger entourage," he told Melbourne's Herald Sun.

"There's no question that she'll be ready in our view and she wants to break a record that is Margaret Court's. It would be a pretty significant accomplishment for her to be able to do that."

I love seeing athletes be as up front with their goals, with the desire to chase history as Serena is here:

Serena Williams: 'It's not a secret that I have my sights on 25'

Serena Williams may not be where she wants to be right now in terms of competing on the tennis court, but she's quite sure of where she wants to go.

Williams, 36, just four months after giving birth to her first child, is driven to win Grand Slam title No. 25 and return to the No. 1 ranking in the world.

"To be honest, there's something really attractive about the idea of moving to San Francisco and just being a mom," Williams told Vogue in an interview published Wednesday. "But not yet. Maybe this goes without saying, but it needs to be said in a powerful way: I absolutely want more Grand Slams. I'm well aware of the record books, unfortunately. It's not a secret that I have my sights on 25."

Williams decided this past Thursday not to defend her Australian Open title, having played only an exhibition match to Jelena Ostapenko after overcoming medical issues that cropped up after the birth of her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

"I don't want to just compete, I want to do far better than that and to do so, I will need a little more time," Williams said in the statement.

She needs only one more major title to equal the record held by Margaret Court, who won 13 of her 24 Grand Slam titles before the Open era began in 1968.

"I remember how stressed I was about getting to Grand Slam number 18, tying Chrissie [Evert] and Martina [Navratilova]," Williams said. "I had lost every Grand Slam that year. I was in the US Open, and Patrick [Mouratoglou], my coach, said, 'Serena, this doesn't make sense. You're so stressed about 18. Why not 30? Why not 40?' For me, that clicked. I won 18, 19 and 20 right after that.

"Why would I want to stand side by side when I can stand out on my own? I think sometimes women limit themselves. I'm not sure why we think that way, but I know that we're sometimes taught to not dream as big as men, not to believe we can be a president or a CEO, when in the same household, a male child is told he can be anything he wants. I'm so glad I had a daughter. I want to teach her that there are no limits."

ESPN: Serena Williams to make return to competitive tennis at Fed Cup

Serena Williams is slated to return to competitive tennis next month at the Fed Cup.

Williams and sister Venus will play for the United States when it opens defense of its Fed Cup crown against the Netherlands in Asheville, North Carolina, on Feb. 10-11.

World No. 9 CoCo Vandeweghe also will play for the Americans, whose fourth member will be announced next week.

Serena Williams hasn't played a pro event since last year's Australian Open. In April, she announced that she was pregnant.

Wow, Souhan writing about tennis!

Serena Williams adds to her greatness with Wimbledon run

The comedian Jim Gaffigan performs a routine comparing the male and female contributions to life. He gives men full credit for being within the vicinity of their partners for a few moments, then notes that women can create a life inside their bodies, give birth to a human with their bodies, then feed the human with their bodies.

Gaffigan should update his act to celebrate a woman who can follow steps one, two and three, and then, 10 months later, advance to a Wimbledon final. That woman is Serena Williams.

Margaret Court won 24 grand slam singles titles. Not all of those were achieved during the “Open Era” of women’s tennis, so many experts view Williams as the rightful record-holder.

Williams could simplify her status with a victory Saturday and one more major title. But she doesn’t need to. Williams was the greatest ever even before she decided to celebrate motherhood with a shower of 120-mph serves.

Serena Williams named 2018 AP Female Athlete of the Year for on-court comeback

Serena Williams was named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year for 2018, winning the honor for the fifth time in her career. She didn't win the honor so much for her on-the-court performance as she did for the conditions in which she performed.

Williams made two Grand Slam finals after missing a year due to her pregnancy and a health scare after she gave birth. Williams lost the final at Wimbledon to Angelique Kerber and the US Open title to Naomi Osaka in 2018.

Williams had seven appearances this year, debuting at Indian Wells where she made it to the third round before losing to her sister Venus Williams. Her first major appearance was the French Open, where she retired prior to a match against Maria Sharapova in the Round of 16. At the US Open, she defeated the likes of Venus, Karolina Pliskova and Anastasija Sevastova before losing to Osaka.

Perhaps, but Lindsey Vonn's skiing exploits are quite possibly equal to Serena's in tennis. Vonn's sport is much more punishing on the body and the joints, but there is no doubt that Serena ranks as one of the greatest female athletes.

Mikaela Shiffrin will replace Lindsey Vonn as the best female skier at the end of her career.

I'm not a tennis fan. But an real sports fan should be able to recognize and appreciate how dominate Serena has been.

He's not a real sports fan. He only comes on this forum to b!tch about politics.
