As of Thursday -- the morning after the Gophers were officially laid to rest despite an absolutely horrible NCAA at-large bubble -- by my calculation there are 27 teams (and I use that term loosely) battling for 8 available at-large bids. This time I won't designate which bubble teams teams I would select to complete the 68-team field. I'm simply listing the bubble teams the Selection Committee is likely to consider, even if only marginally, in the event they win at least a game or two (or 3) in their conference tournament.

Good stuff SS.

And yeah, obviously this team has enough talent to win games even without Nolen, otherwise they wouldn't have been in position to win about 7 of the last 9 games by leading late. It just so happens this slide coincided with his ankle injury. It's an obvious reason for an obvious problem. That doesn't excuse the lack of composure down the stretch of games as we've seen from this team in virtually every single loss of this putrid stretch, but it's obvious the loss of Nolen was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. The team fought through so much adversity over the last two years, and Nolen's injury was like the breaking of the dam and it's all flooding over now.

Just gotta clean up the flood damage and regroup for next year. I think they can still be a good team, but they just gotta get through a year without a billion distractions and things going wrong for once. If that doesn't happen next year......wow

Nit-ology is the place to check but it's not up yet. Maybe it won't be up this year, who knows.

Excellent write-up as always. Well done.

As far as my tournament favorites now that we're officially out barring a miraculous B10 tournament championship, hmmm. I guess I'd have to go with Maine since that's been my home for the past 12 years, and South Dakota State, since that's my birth state and where I grew up for the first 18 years of my life.

RE: the possibility of us not even scoring an invite to the NIT, I agree that's possible in theory, but even if we fail to win another game this season, we'd still finish 3 games over .500 and I would be incredibly, highly shocked if even the NIT were to say 'no thanks' to us. Our RPI rating has taken a severe tumble as of late, but our strength of schedule is still an impressive 31st, and with the signature wins over WVU, UNC and Purdue plus the fact we play in a power conference and have got what is considered to be one of the marquee coaches in college basketball, I believe that the NIT would be more than pleased to have us. I just hope that we'd get an additional home game or two out of that. That's my opinion anyway, but we shall see.

Wow, we've officially stooped to the level of debating whether or not we make the NIT!

I think Seany is more likely to be right than I am (Gophers to the NIT), but if we don't make it, there's always the CBI (or CIT)!!

I think the Ghost of Gangelhoff only meant to put us on the bubble, but it never got the memo that they only expanded to 68 teams, not 96.

Hard to believe: UNC projected as a 4 seed and WVU a 6. Just sucks that a great early season run means nothing now.

Higher expectatiions.

Better Barn atmosphere.

Year 4 .

SS,

Remind me again, who did BarnBurner used to be?

Huge troll, extreme Monson supporter, banned by MNSnowman...

It's right on the tip of my alledged mind.

SS - in #1 of your Streams of Consciousness with reagrds to Nolen and a Mbwake-less season next year I didn't think anyone was allowed to say such things around here.

I am afraid speaking the truth will only have your "true fan" questioned.

If anyone honestly believes there is a chance the gophers won't make the NIT (assuming they don't make the NCAA) they need to put down the LSD.

Lose the next 2 and they are a 17-14 team from a major market, from a major conference, with a big name coach, likely having a player coming back that with this player the team was in the top 20............it would take about 4 more losses to take the gophers out of the NIT.

SS, remind me again, who did BarnBurner used to be?

No need for BB to be called out by name again. Let's let BarnBurner enjoy his moment in the sun. ... he's in all his Internet glory because Tubby's program has had a disappointing season, while Dan Monson is having a nice season in Long Beach. Congratulations BarnBurner. ... party like a rock star!

Rose: Agreed. 1 or 2 more home games at the Barn in the offing.

Sunday: Thanks for your excellent work. What do you think Monson's chances are in the tourney?

:)

LBSU & Monson

Thanks Section201.

Long Beach State (14-2) ran away with the regular-season title by (at least) 3 games, making it a prohibitive favorite to win the Big West Tournament. Monson's squad has been dominant, winning 8 conference games by double digits. I'll be surprised if they don't win it.

He played a difficult nonconference schedule (#6 in the country), so if LBSU does make the NCAA Tournament it's not likely to wet themselves at the sight of a big-time program. They should be prepared for about anything. I'd guess they'd be a #13 or #14 seed, more likely a #14.

Charley Walters had this morning that it wouldn't be a bad NIT draw for LBS and MN at the barn.

Going to search the old board for his name. :)

Long Beach State

Long Beach State has an interesting roster. They have 9 Juniors.

That would be a NIT matchup that perhaps a few folks around here would wrap their arms around. Not a lot, but some. That might be one NIT home game I'd think about going to, as long as it doesn't conflict with the NCAA Tournament.

By the way, BYU just got beat, at home, after losing their key inside player(and it wasn't that close). Of course maybe it was just a one game emotional effect. Then again, maybe there is something too losing a key player(s) that affects a teams play? Maybe BYU can figure it out and adjust. At least they've got great guard play left, unlike us. We'll see.

Enjoy paying $$ to watch the performance of this team and coaching staff? Glory at 6-11?? Why didnt I think of that! Soooo much enjoyment!

That shows exactly how biased you truly are SS. You miss the point completely. Still.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didnt you give Tubby 4 years to be in the 16, have the Barn back to prominence with respect to atmosphere, a lineup of excellent recruits up and down the bench and on the floor? A win or two in the NCAA?

Dan Monson didnt get it done at MN. We all know that. He took a lot of unnecessary abuse on this forum from guys like you. Looks like he has his team playing well out in Cali, however. Kudos to him. You brought up a lot of his struggles, yet now is the first time (I think) you actually bring him up for the success of his team this year? High character.

I wasn't on here during the Monson era, but I would say that for the most part he takes a lot less abuse now then Glen Mason does, and Mason did far less to deserve it. I agree that Monson's tenure is too easily trashed by many Gopher fans. But no one can even dispute that he needed to be fired. Just because we don't follow LBSU obsessively like Kentucky fans, doesn't mean we don't still have some respect for what he tried to do and wish him well. At least I do.

I find it telling that so many that destroyed Monson are quiet as a church mouse now.

That's what happens when the standards and expectations are twisted and turned at a whim. Oh, and throw in a smidge of rationalization to boot.

This is ZTAGopher, Howeda, official guzzler of Dan Monson's load. He's a troll's troll. A mega troll. Banned, different monikers, you name it.

Any disparagement of Dan Monson will send him over the edge of rational thinking.

The Tubby Police are in full force. Protecting the tubster.

You never should question Tubby on anything, ever. Never.

According to Bliz, telling the truth means you are a troll.

So Bliz, do you feel tubby has met expectations?
