Scoggins/Kill Article

I really liked Kill but the way he crashed-out ruined his legacy a little.

Hard to see him thriving in the NIL-era Big Ten. We'll never know.

I too, am a Jerry Kill supporter.

However, he went 29-29 (14-21 in conference) at Minnesota and 0-3 in bowl games. He made the program better (thanks Basement Brew) but he was average at best record wise.

People hate on Fleck 63-42 (37-38) for not winning enough but I think he’s just less likable to some people. (I also love Fleck, FWIW)
That record is slightly skewed due to his first year, which was a transition year

Hard but not impossible to see Kill thrive in the NIL-era Big 10. He got New Mexico St on the radar this decade and his QB is now part of a Top 10/SEC program at the moment.

In the end, you're right...we'll never know.

Jerry Kill started with a map showing him where the stadium was. PJ started on the goal line inheriting the majority of his best players from the Kill regime. PJ has had some guys of his own over a longer period of time but nuthin' comparable to the ones on the roster of the team. he inherited.
Huh? I just beg to differ. Fleck inherited some decent guys (and has been pointed out those player can just as well be attributed to Claeys as Kill), the most notable one being Winfield, Jr. The commentator on Saturday's loss pointed out that there are only nine schools that have had a player drafted in either the first or second round over the last five NFL drafts: 8 bluebloods and the University of Minnesota.

We can argue--and it is a legitimate argument--as to why our W/L isn't better given the presence of that talent, but to somehow argue that Fleck inherited the NCAA equivalent of the 1960s Green Bay Packers is pretty far out in left field.

I get that some don't like Fleck with all the acronyms and slogans and effervescence that can come off as shallow. He has a schtick. Kill had a schtick. Brewster had a schtick. Wacker had a schtick. Claeys was schtick-less as was Mason (probably to their detriment). We don't know if Kill is any more genuine than Fleck. I soon tired of the cornpone "Jiminy Christmas" baloney (and I grew up rural in the 1950s so I am familiar with the patois.

Both Fleck and Kill know (or in Kill's case knew) how to run a college football program. But ask yourself this--and there is no answer--if the shoe had been on the other foot and Kill would have had a chance to hang 60 on the Gophers when he came here with New Mexico State, my guess is he would have done it. Fleck showed me a lot that night when he took his foot off the gas instead of burying them.
