What time does it start/gates open?

What are people most interested to see? I will personally be watching to see which Freshman will potentially have an impact and who separates themselves at WR.

Per GopherSports.com, it starts at 4:40 pm. Not sure when the gates open. Somewhat similar to your point, I am interested to see which Freshman might play right away. I think we have a couple WR and a TE that might, maybe Edwards and one of the QBs too (as a WR). Sosanto is likely (but perhaps only for kickoffs & long FG?).

Biggest thing for me? Actually to see how many fans come out.

bump. hope to see many of you at tcf stadium this saturday (8/10) for the fall scrimmage. starts at 4:40pm

Will all of the lots next to the stadium be available for this?

I heard that the lots near the stadium will be closed and parking is only allowed at the state fair lot in an effort to to make up for the lack of parking/tailgating spots available for the first game ;)

FYI for those of you going

Thanks, jaymil. More reports from the scrimmage, please!

Sounds like Donovahn Jones is impressing at WR. He started as the 4th string QB and threw a pick, then moved to WR.

Thanks for the updates. If Nelson continued to complete passes the way he did during the first series and does it during the season, this could be a B1G year!

Go Gophers!

The QBs ran too much IMO. Donovhan Jones could be a real factor at WR with his speed. Edwards looked very good but he is small. The defense was ahead of the offense overall and the DBs were solid. Depth will not be a problem on the OL.

Pretty dull, but here are a few observations:

Boddy-Calhoun appears to be the third cb, as he started with Wells out.

Jones and Streveler are fast. Streveler would have had about a 60 yd td run in a real game (he was touched from behind down the sideline but wouldn't have been tackled)

I wish the Ekpe's would have had more kids.

The 3's DL was giving the 3's OL fits. (H. Ekpe, Hinjosa, Owen Salzwedal and Peppers)

Engel and Nelson seem to have developed a rapport. I predict he will be our leading receiver this season.

Outside of the first drive and Edward's long run, the D really owned the day.

Not impressed at all with Leidner. I think we will be in big trouble if Nelson goes down.

I don't know how they will keep De'Vondre Campbell off the field, the guy is a beast.

I was one of the first to enter the stadium at 3:30pm. Very fun scrimmage! I was really impressed with the precision and execution of Phil Nelson running his first offense. He used the "hurry-up" huddles and seemed to really know what he was doing. Great 60/70 yard td run by Berkely Edwards, true freshman from Michigan. Saw Jonah Persig working with a trainer in the end zone. Much enthusiasm by both Maroon and Gold squads today. Glen Mason was actually there too on the sideline. Good to see him still active with the program! I swear this Edwards kid will be a great RB for the Gophers! Sorry if I missed others as well. Beautiful day for outdoor football! Thanks! Go Gophers!!

Thanks to all for sharing their impressions of the scrimmage! Keep them coming. I can't wait for the season to start.

Do they have any concessions?

NOTHING. Come on Teague. Get on the ball. Missed opp. to make some cash. Also, no replays. They had the scoreboard fired up. Does anyone there THINK??????? Then they blasted mostly obnoxious music the whole game. They could have done some clever things. Like mike up Kill. Do interviews over the scoreboard. Show great Gopher highlights from years past. They did some fun things for the spring game.

I went today with my 7 and 6 year old. Before we left, I was going to take them to Goldy's Zone and look for some Gopher gear. But, of course, it was closed. But then again, beggers can't be choosers. They are under no obligation to provide us with a scrimmage open to the public.

GopherSports: Gophers Scrimmage in Front of Fans

Philip Nelson and the first team opened the scrimmage with a touchdown on their first drive. Nelson went 4-for-4 passing for about 41 yards. Donnell Kirkwood also picked up some yards on the ground. Nelson connected with KJ Maye a few times, capping off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass.
