I don't know if he fits our system. He was recruited to play OLB in a 3-4 and that doesn't seem to be a fit with us (at least under the system run by Rossi).

Right. But he also may not be good in a 3-4 or 4-3

Many teams live in the nickel these days. Even in the Stone Age big ten.
 


I'm no fan of Kaden J, But, he is big, as in solid. 6-2 250. That might work as in ILB with Lindenberg, at least situationally. We don't have any LB with bulk like that. LB depth is still a huge issue for the Gophers. I think the principal issue we face on D. We've got lots of DL, and they are coming along. Our DBs also have a lot of bodies, man experienced and others coming along, ... plus KOI! But LB depth is still IMHO a huge issue and Achilles heel. It was the principal reason our defense had so much trouble in 2023; played guys in key roles well before they were ready.

3-3-5 nickel or 4-2-5 nickel
Makes a big difference on a player of that skill set

Even at the high school level. One kid could be a solid OLB in a 3-4 and barely see the field in a 4-2-5 or a 4-3
Because he is too small to play backer in the 4 man front but can’t go back into deep quarters coverage

Yup. Dunno anything about Johnson, but we need help at linebacker, no matter who is healthy next year.
