Really glad that he received a 6th year of eligibility - he is terrible! We need to sit him down and start a youngster - a freshman can watch people run into the endzone just as well as a 24 year old 6th year senior! Ugh..

Ski u mess

You're nuts, Royston is probably our MVP on defense (You could argue it's Tinsley). How many TD saving tackles & pass breakups does he make per game? Answer: Way more than he should be.

Really? Royston is the guy you single out?

Shut up. We have MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger problems then the safety that keeps us from giving up 50 points a game.

I can say with confidence that the OP has either not seen a game all year or is blind.

Lets start with some kind of a pass rush. Any kind.

Royston is constantly running across the field to cover a botched play by Stoudermire and Vereen. We have ACTUAL problems on defense, Royston is not one of them.

Royston would be a really good football player were he not slow.

This is not a mystery. He's just too slow to make plays--even though his mind, body and other skills would allow him to do so.

He grades out fine in every other department.

You can make plays and be Royston level speed and still be a saftey

Royston is the least of our problems on defense, so is the entire back seven. When you have so much time that you can go to your 3rd and 4th read or the QB escapes
any pressure all of the time all of the Secondary defense becomes a problem. Do we need to see the Gophers tackle better yes. One thing we have to see is someone
learning how to beat a block or a double team up front and actually stretch a play to the boundary. We get none of that from our front four.
You can also ignore the fact that after his injury he is lucky he is even on a football field. Ask EJ Henderson of the Vikings there is always swelling and pain
even after you recover. He has been the most consistent play maker and only vocal guy on defense and someone calls him out?

So you're saying he could play for the Vikings?

Don't play if you are hurt. Watch the TD runs last night your superhero Royston is a spectator. Loving crappy players is a Minnesota tradition.

Ummm...Royston can tackle. That puts him a few notches above most of the rest of our defense.

Agreeing with the people saying Royston is a solid football player. It's really curious that someone would single him out.

Slow. The entire defense.

But they aren't physical so it makes up for it.

Royston is a problem. He's not very good. Those crediting him with the ability to tackle need to check out some game film. I agree he is not the biggest problem on D, but Safety play as a whole has been awful and he's part of that. There aren't any good players on D. Even Tinsley has been making huge mistakes. Rallis is a robot out there. Stiff as hell. There isn't really an area on D that you can point to and say "this is what we're doing good".

I would never say this is what we're doing good.

I have too agree with this, Royston did not look too good to me at all. On at least one play he was blocked out of the play for a TD and didn't look to give too much effort, either that or the NDSU guy was just that much better, which is kinda sad if he's considered our defensive leader.

What game were most of you watching, couldn't be the last one, Royston looked awful. Not saying it's all his fault for the entire year, but that's what I saw out there last game.

What I See

I don't think it's one guy making mistakes. The problem is that we don't even have one guy who consistently makes plays. All our guys make plays. It's just that they all miss far too many.
