Royce White Update in Strib

This is particularly interesting:
Tyler also said that he'll discuss an on-campus burglary that occurred a few weeks after the MOA incident following White's trial. Police called White a "possible suspect." But Tyler said, "Police haven't named him as a suspect, the media has."

I don't agree with that crap about White defending himself, but it appears to be pretty solid news for the Gophers. Best case scenario has him back next week in practice?

I wouldn't count on it. I think Coach Smith is going to teach Royce some humility. He sacrificed a win against A&M by sitting a senior and junior starters. I doubt he'll let a kid who's been booted out of the dorms, got the MOA charges, and put himself in a poor situation again in the dorms, just walk into Williams Arena like he owns the place anytime soon.

Tubby has said that White has legal and emotional problems he needs to work through. Just because he has his legal problems settled does not mean he has gotten his other issues straightened out. I hope for his and the Gophers' sakes that he is able to get things figured out and get back on the basketball court.

He said best case for Royce is he practices next week in the event the case is resolved. Why is it necessary for you to vent your hatred for Royce?

Are you kidding? I've wished the best for Royce White in hopes that he figures it out because his next stop could be Stillwater. As much as we could use him now, I wouldn't think it would be all that bad if he went elsewhere to start over.

Stillwater is beautiful...does he like antiquing?

He is referring to the Stillwater state prison, not sure if you were being facetious or not.

trust me, chadypu, sarcasm is haugy33's specialty. :)

LOL

This lawyer is funnier than some of the self proclaimed attorneys we have on staff here at the GH !!

Defending himself from a security guard who was running at him ! ;) ;) ;)

"...that the security guard "was running at my client" and that White was "trying to protect himself," possibly making White an assault victim

Too funny. I am dizzy from the attorney-spin!

:D:D:D

To be fair Section201, mall cops that confront suspected shoplifters are more often in plain-clothes than not (they aren't usually identifiable by their clothing).

If Royce saw someone running at him telling him to stop, looking pretty intense, he may have been pretty scared and acted accordingly. I'm not making an excuse for Royce, but it's most likely not as black and white as you think when it comes to this type of situation.

I will give you that IF...

I will give you that if Royce did not steal anything.

If Royce did steal something then this defense is laughable because he would know darn well why some guy, plain clothes or not, was running him down.

Now if I had not stolen something I would be pleading NOT GUILTY. I wouldn't allow my attorney to play this "stay of imposition" card.

At the MOA there should have been plenty of witnesses.

I'll buy that and also that the store cop was probably plain clothes. Notice that his Attorney is saying, I believe, yes, he is guilty of the shoplifting charge, but that would be typical of a first time offense disposition. They'll drop the assault. What happens next is up to Tubby, who last weekend, indicated he would decide if Royce would still be a part of the program.

This is why people hate lawyers, they are the bottom of the barrel in society. They Spin a bunch of BS in order to make the guilty get off. Protecting himself my A__!

The reason some of us (myself included) don't think he'll be practicing next week is that, as Tubby has stated, he needs some time to determine if he wants Royce to be a part of the team or not. He certainly has a few weeks before Big Ten play starts then so I would imagine the decision to come in the next two weeks pending the outcome of the hearing tomorrow. That's just my own personal speculation though.

watching us lose to A & M I say bring Royce back NOW

I think if Tubby was going to kick him off he would have done it by now.

It appears that Tubby and Gopher fans are not going to get any kind of admission or acknowledgment from White that he might have done something wrong at the MOA. Instead, we are all going to have to deal with the fact that White and his buddies will be laughing their asses off that he has gotten away with his bad behavior one more time. This punk is not going to learn anything from this incident. Tubby should suspend White for additional games just for hiring an attorney that would make this pathetic argument.

Myron reports:
Tyler also said he'll request a "stay of imposition" on the shoplifting accusation. If granted, the shoplifting citation would be dismissed in a year, provided White stays out of trouble and there are "no similar instances in a year."

If Myron is correct that Tyler (White's attorney) has negotiated a "stay of imposition" then White will enter a guilty plea and the judge then stays (defers) imposition of sentence.

OTOH, if the judge agrees to a "stay of adjudication" then the finding of guilt and any sentence is stayed (deferred) for a year. The citation would then be dropped after the year.

Myron's article is half right -- which half is hard to say.

I wouldn't say he's completely gotten away with anything even if he is found innocent of all charges. His name has been dragged through the mud and his alleged actions were a focus on national TV before at least two of the Anaheim Classis games. He's also missed everygame so far with a looming possibility of being kicked off the team. I hope he gets all legal and supposid emotional issues taken care of so he can rejoin the team, for his sake and for the teams.

Don't steal = your name won't be dragged through the mud.
Steal = you deserve a good dragging.

.Simple As That.

This is America...if your daddy has enough money or you have an extremely marketable skill you get a few more chances than the rest of us. At least this case deals with a skill...

Actually, I have to agree. I wouldn't put money against Royce being suited up for practice tomorrow if this is resolved today.

If I were Tubby and I was not going to kick him off before, I would kick him off now just for the arrogance of his crappy defense that he is the "victim" in the case. White has learned nothing from it and will repeat the bad behavior over and over again because there has never been consequences for Royce White.

This is sad & pathetic, really. I get the feeling the cloud surrounding the program isn't leaving anytime soon. Buckle up for what could be a tough season, because this kind of stuff more often than not brings a team down. Tubby, his staff and his players (at least the ones who obey the law and follow team rules) have a heck of a job in front of them to prevent this season from going south if the White and (to a lesser extent) Mbakwe stuff lingers in the air all season.
