Royce and Tubby sitting together at Augsburg tourney

Per Shooter:

Westbrook said he hasn't seen suspended freshman Royce White much, but that word among teammates and the basketball program is that White finished the fall semester with nearly a 3.0 grade-point average.

btw - where is that p.o.s. becky troll myles long?! i believe he was trying to post some b.s. becky innuendo a couple weeks ago that royce would basically be “failing out of school” and that we just need to wait for the info........you know because myles fancies himself a gophers insider and all

Let's let Tubby assess where we go with Royce. He has more knowledge about and more invested in him than any of us. This is not something we need to resolve here, fortunately. Tubby has the right balance of toughness and compassion to deal with this situation.

Great updates

I hope Royce leaves quietly at the end of the year. It would only be a matter of time before he embarrassed himself and the university again.

The kid needs mentoring and Tubby seems to be trying to provide that. Yes the Macy's incident was dumb, but he deserves another chance.

I like what I'm hearing. Probably too late for Royce to rejoin the team this season, since he's missed so much practice time, but I hope that he can do what needs to be done so he can play next season. I think that would be in the best interest of the Gophs and Royce. I don't see him getting drafted this year, which leaves his other possibilities as: 1) transfer to another DI program and sit out another year 2) play a year in Europe 3) straighten out his legal issues and rejoin the team next year.

I heard he had a 3.3 GPA

The story of the night on the court was St. Paul Johnson and PG Estan Tyler who handed Hopkins there first loss since Anthony Tucker and Tonka knocked them out of the playoffs two years ago. Coleman didin't have a great game but still ended up with 19. Tyler had 20 and was hitting deep jumpers and making some passes that had Tubby taking notes. He definately helped his stock in the eyes of the Gophers. Another recrutiing developement has emerged not related to this game but can't talk about it just yet.

you're a tease!

go to hell Art Vandelay.

Lol. I agree. Never a positive thing to say. A win isn't good enough and he shows up after every loss and has plenty to say. I have no idea what his history is here but he posts like he's nothing but a troll. Why hasn't he been banned?

FWIW and IMHO, Art is such a downer I have wondered if he/she isnt some other poster's evil sockpuppet.

Art does have some useful insight, but for the most part, I agree, he's an extreme pessimist.

I disagree that it's too late to contribute this season. As others have said, and I agree, Royce probably will not be a 4-year guy so we wouldn't be "wasting" a scholarship year even if he played for only half the B10 season (not to mention the Gophers postseason run to glory).

I agree. He won't be here 4 years. Even if all he can do this year is come in a few minutes a game, grab some rebounds and score 4 points, it'll help fill a hole we have right now.

May be in the minority

I may be in the minority here but at this point I think it is most important that RW goes about his business, going to school, following the rules, and doing what Tubby expects of him.

I hate to see an 18 year old kid squander the opportunity to get at least some college education and grow under the tutelage of someone like Tubby.

Better that he be on the team next fall with a solid foundation under him than push the situation now just to get a few minutes on the floor this season.

In Tubby I trust.

Yes, Art is a contrarian. Yes, he's negative. But neither are grounds for banning here. Now, when a member goes out of their way to be a jerk (such as over-the-line ad hominem rips) then they get banned (either permanently or for a period of time).

And, if folks find him a "troll" the best response is to ignore him. If he's trolling for a reaction, those who respond are just throwing chum into the water. ;)

Ro Russell was in the same gym with Coach Smith....

No, it's quite subtle with Art. Any search of his posts is easy enough to reveal that. Fine if it's not a bannable offense, but that doesn't make them very offensive in their nature and in that they tend to cause nothing but discord. I would prefer, as obviously many would, that instead of having to ignore him that he just shuts the *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# up.

As acronyms have been discussed recently, would

shuts the *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# up

equate to STFU or SYFPH ?

Who says GH can not be a place of higher learning?

:)

I personally try to avoid vendettas against individual posters on this board, even though at times I'm not successful. My only issue with Art is his confidence that he's always correct no matter what. But that could be said about plenty of posters on this site.

Thanks for the updates as always.

Totally agree. This seems to be positive, but this has been a soap opera and there still could be more twists and turns. White got himself into this position over a period of time, and it's going to be a period of time before his issues are solved. I'm still skeptical he's going to make it but going to school, following rules, and meeting expectations are more important right now for him than getting him on the floor.

Rushing him back just could send him exactly the message he doesn't need to hear: that there might be some hassles but basically I can do what I want.

I trust Tubby on this.
