Embarrassing performance, but I guess we shouldn’t be surprised, as our roster is 90% mid major stocked. Fox and Mitchell no field goal attempts, that is on the coaches what game are they watching. Feel sorry for Dawson and what he has to endure this season.

It would be one thing if the guys had just come out flat and not ready to play. That wasn't it.

They played hard and the defensive effort was good. They simply didn't have the quickness to deal with North Texas and the coaches were not prepared with any way to counter it. Our offense was probably the worst I have ever seen, the whole thing was on the back of Garcia making plays by himself.

Garcia 24 points 8 boards on 6 of 9 on FG attempts (fantastic), no turnovers
Rest of the team 9-39 from the field 27 points and 13 turnovers (awful), 4 of 21 on 3pt shots- many of which were desperation heaves as the shot clock was expiring.

Just sickening the depths this program has sunk to. Especially with the talent available in the area.
Thanks UofM admin. Why would anyone give $1 to this program in its present status?
They'll be at 2k STH next year

I see a lot of feel sorry for Dawson stuff. But not sure if people are not aware he chose this lol.

Last night he was incredibly efficient. Probably shoulda forced more shots tbh. But he is who he is. An iso player that our coaches also make no attempt to change.

He got paid well in NIL and wants to be a featured guy. That’s why he’s here. If he left there’s not a good team in America that is centering everything around him the way we do.

If he wanted to be a 2nd or 3rd option he would have chosen that.

I just find it mind blowing we have a coach that’s so inept he doesn’t try to use the inevitable Dawson doubles to our advantage

Not doing anything other than relying on DG says to me the coaches gave up. If that’s the case Ben can’t continue to coach here.

I didn't see the first half but the 37 points they scored in the second half was a good outing. They needed to shore up there defense in spots in the second half and they wood have won. Not doom and gloom yet. More consistency as would getting some of the injured guys back will help.

They need some of the attitude that Hawkins brought to the team last year, Patterson missed the front end of a free throw and missed it badly in a key point last game, Hawkins would have confidently said "oh yeah" and sunk them both. They need that swagger and it's not like Hawkins was a lights out player he just believed in himself and what he could do.

I felt they started out driving hard inside. Drew a few fouls very early. Let’s say first 5 mins. Never got paid off.

They adjusted away from that and I think that is where it went off the rails.

No off ball movement. Lazy passes, floating in space. Not recognizing the double teams quick enough. That last part probably had a huge influence on the appearance of lazy/telegraphed passing. No cutting.

Feels like the presrciption of a few simple actions into Frank Mitchell and Trey Edmonds could have worked. We tried with Fox but he doesn’t have that shear strength.

Instead I think the thought was stretch it Vertically for more spacing. That didn’t work and we pressed that way too long.

I'm a little wary of assuming we have hit rock bottom. I thought we were there when Pitino gave us a 36% conference winning percentage with only two NCAA tourneys in 8 years (and four years of not even making the NIT, don't know what would have happened the year they cancelled postseason). Then, Coyle said "hold my beer" and found another level to sink to.

Ouch! If Dutcher had been hired several years ago we would be well on our way to competing in the Big Ten but several mistakes were made. We have indeed hit rock bottom - this is going to be a very long season. Let's not blow it next time with another lousy hire.

I thought we have far less issues if it was any other gaurd than Mike Mitchell getting hurt.

Gaurds in CBJ’s system take some seasoning before they really show. And while that learning process is going on they tend play like trash.

At least IMHO, that showed with Patterson, Asuma, and Rigsby. And Femi too.

At very begining of last year Hawkins, and cooper the yr before took awhile to get it.

the first half defense was great.

If you think of it like a football game. The G’s offense was so poor I’d say they gave up 9 in tranistion TOs. Which was the difference between winning the first half and losing despite our 14 point half. I don’t think they score those points if when we were back on D and set up.

I doubt it. Coaches come to Minnesota to kill their career, not enhance it.

Many of the geniuses here ASKED for this. Demanded it.
"Oh, no. Can't fire Johnson. He "deserves" another year."

Johnson should have been canned midway through year 2. It was OBVIOUS he wasn't, and never would be, a B1G head coach.

And that's coming from someone was liked the hire.

Effing stupid to just continue to let the program wither with this AWFUL hire.

Thanks for your input, Sid. You can go to Manny's now.

Rock bottom is when we lose to someone worse than North Texas, they're a fringe tournament team
We were at home.
We played hard.
We made 3 baskets in the first half.
We looked intimidated and slow.

If this was a situation where we were just better with our paid players than North Texas with their bargain players, but we mentally just weren't up for the game. Ok, live and learn.

This wasn't that.

Patterson is too slow- Taurus Samuels part 2. Period. Hawkins gets his attitude from the fact that he knows he can blow past you at any moment. The only thing that keeps Hawkins from being an NBA player is he is about 5-8 and he needs to be 6-3.

Johnson deserved another year with the guys he had on the roster last year....that team was showing signs of life and improvement....had the guys who could have come back returned Johnson would have deserved a chance to see what he could do with that group.

When the mass exodus happened a case could definitely have been made to fire Johnson at that point but they chose not too.

So now we are in the position of letting this year play out. If Johnson fails again there is no chance he will be brought back for a 5th year.

Rock Bottom?

Like a stone thrown into Crater Lake, there are still uncharted depths to which, this program may sink.
