Scouting for next year's airplane hangar battle, I'm sure. Pretty cool, actually.

Go Gophers!!

Forget Richard leaving for Louisville in a few years, it looks like Rick will be coming to the U as Richard's special assistant.

Let's get the camera back on the brunette two rows in front of.

Sr. Pitino said that the Gophers are two PF's away. Maybe he can send his rejects to Minnesora!

Wow! That's awesome. Rick looks a bit uncomfortable at the analyst table, but damn he looks good in maroon and gold!

I can't believe those jackwagons trying to get photos with him. Give the guy a break.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Trust me, I did not break the Mack Brown info...nor am I clear on what's going on, but wanted to post on it as soon as I saw it on Twitter. Thank you again for your kind post, glad you like the presser notes too! :)

Is this man proud of his son, or what!
He really is.

Pitino told his dad: "I could die at this program. ...I think we can really, really turn it around into a big-time situation." #Gophers

Just read this on twitter and I can honestly say that Richard being here leading our team and genuinely saying statements like this gives me goose bumps.

That's the difference between Richard Pitino and Saul Smith... Richard wants to be more than some drag along assistant. He wants to make a name for himself. I hope Richard Pitino becomes a legend like his dad!

So cool to see. Is a bit of this for PR? Sure. But the "proud dad" element is hard to deny.

Did anyone tell him you're not allowed to stand up unless everyone is standing and cheering?

Yeah, because Richard never worked for his dad. You think Saul's ambition is to be a lifelong assistant?

P.S. Saul has worked as a coach for people other than Tubby.

Courier Journal: Rick Pitino wanted Richard to succeed him as Louisville basketball coach

“What I said to him,” University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino said, “was, ‘Listen: Take your time (as an assistant). Spend about six, seven years with me and replace me.’ Our athletic director loved him.

“He said, ‘No, this is an opportunity of a lifetime.’”

“He said, ‘Dad, I could die at this program,’” Rick Pitino told BTN. “He was really humble about it. He said, ‘We’re the only Division I school in the state. It’s just an awesome program. I think we can really turn it around into a big-time situation.

“And I’m real proud he thinks that.”

I like what is said, but I'll believe all of junior's words when I see it. I fully expect him to leave if he's successful here.

Last BB coach to leave here for a better job was Bill Fitch in 1970. Left to be coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

For where? Louisville? Rick just said that Richard didn't want to take over for his dad. So much so that he went to FIU, which might've been a bottom five Division I job when he took over.

People here don't realize how good of a situation it is here. I'm not sure there are many better.
-Best conference in Division I
-Only Division I school in the state

We are the only program in the nation that can say that. The only other one-school states: Hawaii, Maine, Vermont, Wyoming

For where? Louisville? Rick just said that Richard didn't want to take over for his dad.

Actually, Rick was talking about the idea that Richard could just remain as his assistant at Louisville for 6-7 years and then take over. That was the path that Richard rejected. He never said that he didn't want to take over for his Dad someday or coach at Louisville.

Dudes, come on.

If he leaves here for Louisville we will thank him for his time well spent. He likely will have brought us higher than Tubby, who brought us back to relevance.

As the old adage goes, "If I have seen further, it is for standing on the shoulders of giants"

Tubby, like him or not, was a giant, Rich can stand on his shoulders and take us higher, and hopefully if Rich leaves, we've still got Norwood to make another great hire to take us higher, he did it at VCU he can do it here too.

I also hope in the other hand that Rich is being genuine and sees the opportunity and makes us into a basketball juggernaut, because we could truly be very relevant. Imagine if we were to recoup any kid in state that we wanted and supplemented with big time prospects from outside... That would be fantastic, we've all been dreaming for that for years!

What we should be scared of, and I would highly doubt this happens but you never know. Is that Rich leaves us before he is successful for a better job. In that instance, we will not really reap the benefits of the program building, but only Rich building his own brand at the expense of our national exposure from being in the big 10. If he shows the ability to coach lead and inspire, but not get results and leaves for a more promising job.... that's bad.... And you could argue, he's done it once already. Again, I don't think that happens, but that's the ONLY negative outcome if Rich leaves other than obviously failing completely.

Tubby was a fraud.

wrong. Dad said he told him he could die at Minnesota

Tubby was a fraud.

Tubby left us in a better spot than he found us? Can we agree on that?

Completely disregard the path and completely disregard your expectations (we agree on all the other stuff, I'm no Tubby honk.)

In that reference, he was a giant, for use in the quote.
