Reusse: If Fleck were a hockey coach producing same ratio of BT wins as he has in football, there would not be fan sites with declarations of Fleck

Per Pat:

The older generations of Gophers men’s hockey followers lead the Twin Cities sports market in one area: entitlement.

Or, put it this way: If P.J. Fleck were a hockey coach producing the same ratio of Big Ten wins as he has in football, there would not be fan sites with declarations that P.J. is the finest coach in their lifetimes.

The restless puck faithful would be, instead, pleading for the return of Don Lucia, or perhaps Brad Buetow, now 75 and last reported living in Colorado Springs.

Apples to oranges, you say?

Maybe, but Bob Motzko could only wish the 24 games his hockey team is playing against Big Ten opponents contained as many struggling rivals as Fleck’s nine-game conference schedule this past fall.

Go Gophers!!

Horrible comparison by Reusse. Pat does not like Fleck. Never has. He would probably tell you that to your face. I still think Fleck is the best Gopher coach in my 50 years as a Gopher FB Fan. Some may not see that way which is their opinion. I love what Fleck is doing with the Football program. For what Fleck receives in financial backing and resources, he is doing a great job. Looking forward to the 2026 season!

We’re a “blue blood” of hockey - should win more. As I’ve posted elsewhere, the single toughest, gut-punch, loss I’ve endured as a Gopher alum/fan, was the NC loss to Quinnipiac. Not just the loss - the way it happened, and the absolutely, almost obscenely, talent-laden roster we had. Throw in several other big upsets/losses, and acknowledging the back-to-back wins 25 years ago. We should win much more, frankly, and underachieve more so generally, and hurts me to say/opine.

OTOH . . . Our football team exceeds expectations generally, given the gauntlet we play and the relative disadvantage we have recruiting and resources vis-a-vis those others.

Pat has to know this, right?!?!?

If Minnesota had a paper worth reading, people would be begging for Too Tall Tom Szymanski over this dunce. Apples to oranges? Of course. Have to follow suit so I can troll and get a click.

If I compared the sports writing of Patrick "Reuse" Ruesse with the writing of the Athletic or any place with sports journalism he would not get any website or places to publish his trash. However, because he created a recognizable name for himself in the Twin Cities, commonly rehashing old takes and bashing the sports teams, he continues to get clicks.

For anyone who thinks Pat's hot takes about the Gophers aren't related to his dislike of Fleck and our disgust of him, take note of this article.

It's so outlandish that even his biggest supporters will notice. Pat is a morbidly obese bitter old man who fails at trolling the Gopher fanbase because he's the one who flames out (see this article).

Do the local papers ever write anything positive about the Gophers? My word and people wonder why there this is a stigma that surrounds the Gophers. The people that are supposed to be supporting the teams write this crap trashing the teams over and over. Why do people like Ruesse think people don't support the teams when he doesn't either

The guy is 80 years old, so that doesn't seem like it's quite "morbid".

Yes. They do.

This article in fact was immensely supportive of the Gopher Hockey Head Coach, Bob Motzko.

He wrote one earlier this week quite supportive of Gopher Basketball Player Cade Tyson.

He wrote another column last month also supportive of Gopher Football Captain Derik LeCaptain.

All great reads.

Harvard. Skarda. Post.

Not topped by Quinnipiac.

There are people who live being morbidly obese. If not, they'd just call the people dead.

He absolutely has a BMI of 40+ and has for decades - the clinical definition of morbid obesity.

The cultural shift came after followers Dark Starr defeated the Siddites. Since then it has been a cynics paradise.

For the love of Christ Reusse - Let. It. Go.

Then it seems like a misnomer if one can live "for decades".

Regardless his BMI has squat to do with his writing.

Fleck consistently performs 10-25% higher than his roster talent should. If he's smart with NIL and the portal (as evident in your 2026 class rank jump), I would expect a 10+ win season in your future. 10-win seasons lead to blue chips, period. Took Harbaugh 10 years of 9-10 wins to get the gas for a ship and Fleck is capable of that with the right conditions.
