Reusse Down on Pitino--hmmmm..... he must be a good hire then~!

Fat Pat & Parksi1 hatin' it? Gotta be a great hire!!

It's funny how Reusse, Powers, the local guys hate the hire. But the national guys love the hire, along with ex players like John Thomas and Jim Peterson. I really don't know what they expect. They rip the program pretty much 24-7 and then on the other hand think we should be able to get a big time coach in a great situation to come here. When even the UCLAs of the world don't have that kind pull. We picked a good young coach and time will tell if we made the right choice. But the more we learn and hear about and from him ,you can sure see why he was hired. I'll take J Bilas or Dickie V's opinion over Reusse's any day. I will never forget Fat Pat's take on Vince Greer. He said with Stan Gaines here why do we need Greer ? There the same player. Hopefully his great insite will continue.

The age divide in the media is becoming more apparent everyday. if younger media could trade Doogie for Rosen things would be much better. I would love for a coach to come in here and give Sid the middle finger. It won't be Pitino but it needs to be done.

Hey then you could get over your "You people should't want FLIP" obsession, you'd have plenty of company too. The "We demand FLIP!" crowd would hate him if Maturi made the hire.

Doesn't change things though. Norwood was turned down by as many or more guys that Maturi was, supposedly in both cases naturally. If Teague was down to that bunch or Pittino, we've been sold a big bill of goods about how good and "connected" Mr.Teague was. Hope that doesn't apply to his fund raising skills too.

I hope you realize my comment was a slam at Maturi, not Flip. I still cringe when I think of Maturi extending and not announcing Borton.

How soon before we get Sid calling Rich "Rick" ?

How is his resume much different than Enfield?

You could easily make the argument that he did just as good of a job last season as Enfield. 18 wins with that squad was a miracle. They had 3 guys on scholarship when he arrived.

If you hated the Enfiled hire, I could see hating this hire. Most people seemed ok with Enfield, so you'd think those same people would at least be ok with Pitino.

Ehnfield won games in the NCAA Tournament as a 15 seed. Pitino JR/ has never coached a game in any post season tournament. There is a HUGE difference. One has won on the big stage, the other has not even made it to the steps of the stage.

I'd love for the U to tell the Star-Tribune that Sid is no longer welcome to hang around the Bierman Building any longer pretending to be a reporter, and that he will no longer be acknowledged at any press conferences. Any questions from Sid at any press conferences should be met with the response "next question."

I can stand Reusse but I have to agree with him this one time. If this guys name was Ed Jones would any of you even care about him? Don't lie you would hate this choice. C'mon this is a total (we better hurry up and hire a guy who will not say no) move!

Disagree. I'm excited/intrigued about Pitino because of his coaching history (worked with Rick and Billy D) and his amazing year at FIU than I am about his name. I had no clue Rick even had a son before today, so no. I wouldn't hate this choice if his name was Ed Jones.

I'm hanging out with Sid. Sorry guys.

Ya, 19 is with Sid, and I am hanging out with Kate Upton. I win.

By the way, when Kate Upton leaves for a photo shoot, Jennifer Love Hewitt (Selection Sunday will be envious) stops by.

If Pat likes the hire no one will read his column. You would think he would be obsessed with Tiger and Lindsay at the Masters.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like with many things - media improves one funeral at a time.

Honestly, every writer in this town should take a lesson from Michael Russo. He is by the far the best writer for any paper in Minnesota.

Joe C is alright to, right behind Russo imho.

Yes I did, hence the post. Your premise of how if Maturi was the A.D. HE would have hired Flip. That would have meant that nearly EVERYBODY would have hated the hire too.

FYI

2-1 in the Sun Belt Conference tourney.

I would not ever look in Steve Alford's general direction. Slimiest of the slimey. Yes, he certainly "learned" things at Iowa. A flying start at UCLA too...

You certainly are going after Alfred. Do you suppose there are any other famous head hoops coaches out there who have been involved in illicit...very controversial...situations in which various outsiders could render very harsh commentary and come off very judgementally toward them? I suppose we could look around a bit to name some other names. It might surprise you...

You mean he's racing neck 'n neck with Rick Pitino and some of his brushes with the slimy side of life?

You certainly are going after Alfred...why don't you look into Rick Pitino's rougher patches...

What does Rick pitino have to do with anything?

Ask Gopher Bandana Guy what Alfred has to do with anything? He seems to fancy himself to be an expert about controversial things related to basketball coaches...

I was so disappointed on Monday night when Verlander walked in to Cowboy Jack's downtown, yet Kate Upton was nowhere in site. Was she with you all along Doc?

Wondered how long it would take someone to bring up RICK Pitino's scandalous after-hours schtooping. It's no secret or surprise to any of us who follow college hoops, and I don't hold many coaches up as beacons of ethical behavior. You're not clever by drawing that line. So it's the 'apple doesn't fall far from the tree' routine, eh? Or are you simply suggesting that Alford is NOT lying to UCLA, despite his knowledge of a plea deal for Pierre. Did you read the article I linked?

I guess since you are going with the moral outrage routine about Alfred indicating he believed someone to be not guilty there by reaching to say that such a statement was indicating the alleged victim was guilty and if you want to push that forever, go right ahead. However, if that is something you are going to campaign against forever (If you believe in it that much go right ahead and push your point forever, man. More power to you, I guess. Heck, you could move to Westwood and protest every game Alfred coaches there. On the other hand...if something like that NEVER dies...something like Rick Patino's stuff never dies either. I'd just question why you choose Alfred to go off on. Just needed to do a little contrast to your protest to see just how real you were being about your thing against Alfred.

It's too bad $hxt ever happens. I wish none of that crap ever happened. And, now I can sense your really sincere about raging on against Alfred. More power to you, I guess. Rage on Gopher Bandana guy. I really think you should try to make it a point to spend some time around UCLA and carry a sign and draw some attention to your cause.

Carry on Gopher Bandana Guy...carry on...

At this point I have to believe you are intentionally misspelling PITINO and ALFORD (Alfred, WTH?). I didn't inject Alford into this thread, THE SCOUT! did. I was merely pointing out that Alford clearly hasn't learned from his mistakes at Iowa, and I wouldn't 'look to him' for much of anything. Obviously, I don't like Steve Alford very well. I'm not Rick Pitino's biggest fan either, for a variety of reasons. But that doesn't mean that his son is prone to the same ethical issues his Dad had. My wife's deceased father was a raging alcoholic and abusive to his entire family, but my wife is kind and rarely drinks, yet still loves her father to this day and learned from him.

I won't rage on, or protest in Westwood, no. Mainly because I don't care about UCLA hoops. Nor do I have a crusade against Steve Alford. More than anything, you seem overly defensive about the guy.

Sid absolutely loved Monson when he was hired. At first Tubby was a bit cool to Sid which many took as a good sign. He was too prominent and proven to kowtow to Sid. Still at the end Sid was a loyal Tubby backer. Sid loves the "U" too much not to back the coach. He will love Pitino. We all will.

My guess is that the first reporter called on to ask a question at the new coach's press conference will be Sid. He'll lob an easy softball right down the middle and our coach will hammer it into the bleachers. This coach is going to light us up. Yebo!
