I just heard Patrick Reusse on 1500 ESPN---He hated the hire! Hates it...He will have a story in the Star-Trib tomorrow to support his ideas.....
He thinks the only reason he got the job because of his Father.....

Put it in the bank, great hire. Reusse has yet to be right about anything.

Big surprise. Fat idiot will be back to his hachet jobs on the Gophers tommorrow. Really it would matter little who they hired. Started his dry drunk by ripping the football program for some reason last week. It will be nice when he retires to the bakery.

That IS the Main reason he got the job. He does not have close to the resume that High End Big Ten wannabe Basketball team would look for in a HC. Maybe he is a super special coach who can recruit studs to a non descript program located in the frozen north and lacking a practice facility

Gophers could have hired Self and reusse would complain.

I can stand Reusse but I have to agree with him this one time. If this guys name was Ed Jones would any of you even care about him? Don't lie you would hate this choice. C'mon this is a total (we better hurry up and hire a guy who will not say no) move!

You can't make that argument that we should ignore him because of his name. Why? Because often times the son follows in the dad's footsteps. Did we make the decision because of his name? Maybe. But there are countless examples of the son who followed in his dad's footsteps.

Question

What was Bo Ryan's resume prior to getting the Wisconsin job? 2 years at Wisconsin Milwaukee? And a Tom of wins at Platville?

What about Izzo? Time at Tulsa as an assistant and a bunch of years at Michigan state as an assistant?

Don't have to have 10 years of success elsewhere to be a great basketball mind.

This kid grew up in the house with one of the best college basketball coaches in history, worked with another great who has a completely different view.... He's got some good people to Lean on. I'm a fan

You really are Reusse aren't you?

Let me guess the column consist of a boring story and finally a point. Tomorrow he'll repeat that same story over and over again on the radio. Oh, and I'm sure he'll talk about what a jackass Rick Pitino (which is true) and equate Richard Pitino of being the same way.

I like this hire alot more knowing our other options were Musselman, Stephens, a guy from Towson or Wojo or someone like that. It's not like the U can pick whoever they want to be the coach. There has to be interest from the coach and alot of people posting on here seem to have delusions of grandeur about the U coaching job and how desirable it is to the majority of coaches out there.

Pitino is exactly the type of coaches that would be interested in this job, young, hungry and with an incomplete resume. Hopefully he can help change this with success and a new practice facility.

Someone call Teague. We really screwed up if Patrick doesn't approve.

Reusee's just trolling y'all for a reaction. He's said multiple times that Rick Patino is the best coach in the game, hands down. But his son who worked under him for several years is a 'terrible' hire, especially when the best-case alternative was probably Anthony Grant? I doubt it.

I dont think anyone really knows, at this point its all opinions. We wont know until we start playing next year and recruits start showing up (hopefully). I like the hire, its a risk, but I think his family history and his own history show me its a risk worth taking. Maybe he will treat us like Shaka treats VCU provided he is successful here, thus when he wins and he will donate his salary to his coaches etc and stay here through better offers. If he is a bust we will revisit this issue in 3 years. Anything is better then Tubby...At least this guy is young and exciting.

I bet you wanted us to hire Saul instead. Since he was Tubby's kid and all.

I just cannot wait to see Sid kiss the butt of a kid who could be his grandson.

Brewter lost Reusse at the first press conference. He thought he was a blow-hard. He was right. I'd hope he'd at least give Patino the same courtesy and not write him off sight unseen. He's trolling for a reaction. This thread was the whole purpose of it.

I don't understand why his name is also being held against him by people that hate this hire, like its some injustice. Whether it's right or not, his name does resonate with fans and creates a stigma. It has obviously impacted his ability to recruit as well. Hopefully he also wins here and it compounds matters. What he did last year can't be thrown away because his dad is a legend. He clearly has some ability. I don't mind taking a calculated risk to try to take the next step.

He'll probably chastise him and say that he'd never get hired at any job if it wasn't for his old man. Meanwhile, Chad will sit red-faced in the corner, realizing once again that his old man has forgotten that he exists.

4 NAIA National Titles . Pittino has his hands full . Do Not think he can get away with bringing in transfers who were kicked out of other programs. He will need to succeed the right way here...Managing talent often requires more experience ,I look at Alford at Iowa he had some trouble makers there who he did not clamp down on because they had game, he learned from his mistakes on how to run a team at Iowa and now is at UCLA

Except for hiring Flip that's really it isn't it? Looking at the kid's resume can't say that I'm disappointed in the hire. Honestly though, it's the same type of hire that Kill was. The trade-off was age and some big time school experience for Kill's longer experience and long time staff. Teague's reputation of "being connected", of being a "real basketball guy" or of knowing what he was doing all along isn't helped by that list of candidates you laid out. Rich seems like the best of that, rather uninteresting bunch.

Kill's an unknown. A work in progress. Seems to know what he wants but he's won a grand total of four Big Ten games in two seasons. This season he gets some more of "his guys" playing, but loses most of his Defensive impact players. He's got three things going for him up here. He's not Brewster, his experience and he's not Brewster.

The biggest thing young Mr.Pittino has going for him up here? He wasn't hired by Maturi.

Lordy, can you image what the reaction would be if MATURI had hired Pittino the Younger? Ruesse would be writing what a GREAT hire it was because all the posters around here would be screaming bloody murder!

Here's to a long and successful run for Rich, not drinking to Mr.Teague just yet.

:drink:

Throw in a line about Fulda somewhere in the story...
