Respect for VCU

Jimmy Dykes says nobody practices harder than VCU and I would have loved to have seen Rodney and Austin trapping guys with their long arms.

Jimmy Dykes hasn't checked the tweets of Paul Carter and Damien Johnson

@PaulCarter15: @VIPJohnson34 ... Man our practices was a war everyday! Smh my body still hurts!

@VIPJohnson34: @PaulCarter15 man we used to all be at each other lol goin hard as hell

@PaulCarter15: @VIPJohnson34 bro after living through Coach Smiths practices everyone one I've had after him has been EEEEEAAASSY! Lol

@VIPJohnson34: @PaulCarter15 I said that the same thing

He's done a bit more these past few season, luckily the majority of us don't live in a vacuum.

Hard for the havoc to rattle a PG the caliber of Burke. He looks really good out there.

Yep, Michigan has too many good ball handlers. Even when they tried to take Burke out of the equation, Hardaway and Staukas (spelling?) had no trouble with the pressure.

It looks like a layup drill....welcome to the Big Ten.

FWIW, Shaka Smart is philosophically very similar to Tubby Smith. He may be a better motivator, communicator, younger, whatever, but X's and O's wise he is almost a replica of Tubby.

Of course it is, far and away the best conference. It remained underrated all year long IMO.

Agreed. I know even as a fan I have underrated it. When they only play each other you don't see it completely.

@SethDavisHoops: VCU had a terrific season. And Shaka could have a decision to make. Keep in mind A10 is being eviscerated by realignment.

@bomani_jones: if i were him, a top 10 job and commensurate salary. see: ucla. RT @Preston_Neill: What do you think it will take for Shaka to leave VCU?

@bomani_jones: all shaka needs to understand, right now, is "72 and sunny every day." assuming guerrero isn't a complete fool.

This is my thought as well. UCLA cans Howland and throws a lot of money ($3m-$4m) at Shaka to resurrect a program that wants to regain lost glory.

@BTNMikeHall: How about the offensive explosion by the Big Ten the first two and a half days. Stop playing BigTen defenses, it's a lot easier to score

Rumor is UCLA big-money wants Billy Donovan. Yeah, good luck with that.

Eek.

@bomani_jones: man, don't nobody wanna work at no damn minnesota. RT @willmelbye: shaka is biding his time until Tubby leaves Minny.

This is a beat down. Shaka looks a bit bewildered.

I think Michigan woulda beat anyone in the country today...They were on fire and playing a virtual home game.

Credit to Beilein for finally starting McGary...Jordan Morgan was really hurting them because he was a dead on on offense.

@bomani_jones: ohio st? great big ten job. indiana? maybe even better. illinois? not terrible. minnesota? gtfoh, man.

@bomani_jones: coach search season: reminding me how delusional ppl are about their alma maters and hometowns since forever.

@bomanineedstogetacluejones: Umm, John Wooden wanted to coach at "damn Minnesota" So did Bud Harrelson.

/bomani's thread.

I think it was Temple that took Smart to school in their conference tournament game too. I started watching and it was a close game, but, VCU's chaotic play and style turned it into a bit of a laugher in favor of Temple...in their half-court offense they dribbled too much...didn't move the ball enough with good passing, screening and cutting and there was not enough movement without the ball to get good looks at the basket.., then, with a couple of seconds left they would jack up a hurried 3. Quite a few turn overs that day too. I'd never watched a VCU game before that one so I have no idea if it was typical or not....just an observation from late this seasons...They did appear to play a lot like the Gophers have played on not their best days. Perhaps it was a bad day against Temple for VCU as well...

Radio/ESPN talking head; he's on Around the Horn a lot.

So he's in the media? Did the guy never take a course in English or grammar?

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people across this country view Minnesota as a vast ice wasteland with nothing to offer. I've got friends in Pittsburgh who, on any day it's cold out, say something like, "well you're from Minnesota so this is nothing to you." I tell you what, a 20 degree dry or snowy day in winter is a lot warmer than the 35-40 degree rainy days that too often frequent the American Northeast, where a high portion of Americans satisfactorily reside.

Add the TC metro area, one of the finest metro areas in the country, the MN education system, Minnesota Nice, lake country, Scandinavian blondes, and gorgeous springs, summers, and autumns, and it doesn't amaze me that most people I've known who move there for a job never want to leave.

Jones is another loudmouth ESPN "analyst". He's like all the other LA/NY/East Coast bums that ESPN likes to trot out to be nothing more than TMZ sports version 1. Just another reason why they're more of a punchline than anything else these days.
