Watching the VCU game just now and I have to say I have crazy respect for Shaka and VCU for not backing down to Michigan, on their home court. They've come out attacking with their press and not backing down. I love underdogs who are the aggressor. I wonder if Michigan will get worn out playing at this tempo? I think thats what Shaka is counting on.

This is my favorite game of the tourney so far. I find myself rooting for VCU.

I want the Big 10 to do well, but VCU is just fun to watch. I would like either team winning.

If Smart's VCU wins this game, Smart will be that much more desired by the giant ($$$$$) programs of the country. Good luck, in that case, of the Gophers landing him post-Tubby.

Agreed, fun style to watch. High pressure defense and constant motion on offense. However, Mich is getting lots of open shots in half court offense, just missing them,

He already is highly desired; not sure he could be that much more... I would be utterly shocked if he came to the U, regardless of the outcome. He'll soon be fielding calls from the blue-bloods once coaches retire (Louisville, North Carolina, etc) or are fired (UCLA).

If/when he comes to another place, I'll be really interested to see if his scheme could work in a BCS leagues (or if he'll be forced to make adjustments). What he's accomplished at VCU is wildly impressive and I'm curious if it can work at a blue-blood or BCS program.

Good for Smart and all he has accomplished there, but I would love for Michigan to win this game and then see the B1G have a perfect round. Wouldn't it be great if that "overrated" conference had 6 of the 16 slots in the Sweet 16?

Agreed. Great game, but hoping for Michigan to win this.

VCU went cold and Michigan just seems too skilled for them, but I give Shaka props for not trying to change who his team is. They just played a bad game. I dont think anybody would beat this Michigan team today in Auburn Hills.

Michigan is killing them. Nice!!!!! I hope they beat them by 40.

VCU would be OK right now if they could hit a shot.

Hard for the havoc to rattle a PG the caliber of Burke. He looks really good out there.

Why would that be shocking. After all, Tubby Smith came here, he was (still is?) highly desired by others. Smart knows our AD. And Smart would likely be paid very well, at a school in a state with good Bball talent, in which it is the only D-1 bball institution.

What would be the downside? That the B1G is competitive?

If Shaka were to come here he would have to change his coaching a lot, not saying he couldn't but would he be willing to?

How? He's playing with inferior talent against a B1G team with a ton of talent.

While I agree that Michigan is much more talented, Shaka isn't putting ALL scrubs out there ... Juvonte Reddic (3-stars) chose VCU over Maryland and Oklahoma, while Troy Daniels (3-stars) had offers from Cincy, Gonzaga and Marquette. And Melvin Johnson was a 4-star with offers from Miami, VT, and Xavier.

I love the U, and I would be excited if he came here, though I don't view it as a sure-fire success. That said, I just can't see it... when he could stay at a good situation and wait for a job like Louisville or UCLA (maybe not wait) or another school that is almost a non-debateable top 15 job in the country. I think we're a good job. And I think, if we choose to go with an established coach, we can get a good one. But I do not think that the Tubby situation coming here is similar to bringing Shaka in. Tubby was choosing to leave somewhere where he was on the hot seat. Shaka is beloved in a good situation with a whole career ahead of him, with almost unlimited options.

But hey, this is just my opinion and I could certainly be wrong. Regardless, I am going to continue enjoying this game and looking forward to rooting on our Gophers tomorrow.

Don't think so. MU & others certainly looked at him, but IIRC there were big enough question marks on whether he'd qualify academically that other schools were holding off. Shaka was new to VCU & took a bit of a risk that paid off nicely.

Are you being sarcastic, or do you believe this to be a legitimate possibility? I just can't see it, personally.

Legitimate possibility. Will explain some of the reasoning when the U's season is over.

Jimmy Dykes says nobody practices harder than VCU and I would have loved to have seen Rodney and Austin trapping guys with their long arms.

Shaka not looking very SMART today... Just the guy we need

If Tubby was getting SMASHED like this the Shaka Lovers would be calling for is head
