Thought the Illinois win would buy him until the end of the season.

Sad to see coaches dumped during a season. It's really an insult - Les Miles won a national championship at LSU, after all. Better to announce that they're gone at the end of the season and a search is under way. Bobby Bowden, though not fired during the season, was treated very badly - but then so was Bernie Bierman, winner of five national championships.

Yep, good old conservative country Jer.....just find a black guy ; must be the coach. A major embarrassment.

I get it's trickle down from the pro level, but just bad to do this early in season. All your coaches know they're out the door and have to stick around. Some day I hope all the assistants or players walk out on a school that does this.

Wonder the affect early signing will have on this.

Good luck to them. The worst job in the Big Ten.

Good god man. It's probably because he has a southern accent, which every white Minnesotan knows is a clear indicater he's racist. smh. Give the dude a break.

Yeah feel bad for the coach. I feel like Purdue has bigger problems then just the Coaching Staff, they've been trending down for a while.
On the bright side, maybe we can get a recruit or two out of it.

CBS Sports list 7 possible candidates for the position. I'm guessing the first two are not going to happen.

1. P.J. Fleck, Western Michigan: This whirling dynamo is the best thing to happen to the MAC since Terry Bowden. Sure, he's a rah-rah guy. And his motivational stuff is, well, different. Fleck is 23-10 since starting 1-11 with the Broncos in 2013. Here's my profile on him from last year.
2. Les Miles, free agent (ex-LSU coach): Crazy Les has told people privately and publicly he wants to coach. For this Ohio native with Big Ten roots, Purdue would be a comfy landing spot.
3. Troy Calhoun, Air Force: I've already been told Calhoun would be interested. The long-time NFL assistant has peaked in the Mountain West. Don't be fooled by the Falcons' option attack. Calhoun is experienced with any offense.
4. Jeff Brohm, Western Kentucky: Bobby Petrino's successor in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Brohm is 24-10 in two-plus seasons and won the Conference USA title last year.
5. Rod Carey, Northern Illinois: Coached the Huskies to the Orange Bowl a couple of years ago. Oh yeah, and he beat Purdue by 31 in 2013. Possible downside: Carey would be a second straight MAC coach.
6. Brock Spack, Illinois State: Joe Tiller's old defensive coordinator has spent eight years in FBS. Blah.
7. Mike Sanford, Notre Dame offensive coordinator: Tough sell with the Irish now 2-5, but Sanford, still in his 30s, is well respected and already has future NFL quarterback Deshone Kizer on his resume.

What a list:

Zero chance that Fleck or Miles take this job. They will each have better opportunities than West Lafayette.

Troy Calhoun wouldn't do much for me if I'm Purdue.

Jeff Brohm would be a nice hire.

Rod Carey would clearly jump at the chance, since he will could be unemployed himself at the end of the season (did this writer care to take a look at the current NIU record? guy inherits an Orange Bowl team and is 1-6 four years later??? Purdue gonna hire him???)

Brock Spack is the odds-on favorite in my book. Purdue fans generally like the guy and he would love the job.

From that list Jeff Brohm or Brock Spack would seem like the best options. Brohm would bring a great offense while Spack would be a program builder type coach.

1-6 Rod Carey? Please hire him.

This is where the Craig Bohl fans should show up. The last time Purdue hired an older coach from Wyoming - Joe Tiller, it turned out alright.

I've seen rumors, that LSU is looking at Jeff Brohm, so he's definately in the running for much higher profile jobs than Purdue.

Well throw in another somewhat about their success and I'll grant you that. It really seems like a no win job.

I agree with you that it will be a big challenge. Trying to climb out of the B1G cellar is challenging and I think we have to give the Kill staff some credit for doing that here.

Yeah they did some big program lifting.

Is it really that bad? They have been successful somewhat recently and they do have talent close by.

My thoughts too, until I looked it up yesterday. Joe Tiller had a good run, but otherwise it has been pretty mediocre.

Here's their last 30 years.

Bohl built the NDSU dynasty and probably has Wyoming going to a bowl game this year. I'd take him over Kleimann.

It is brutal because it is a horrible college town, a bad campus with bad facilities, and the location. Purdue is a good school but it will always be a basketball school. It is also surrounded by Notre Dame, Ohio State, Louisville, as well as Indiana, and Illinois and all of the other D1 schools in Illinois, Michigan, etc. At least they have an excuse for being bad.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bo Pelini Interested in Purdue?

"According to 247Sports, one of their sources informed them that former Nebraska head coach, Bo Pelini, would be interested in taking the Purdue job if offered:

“He would definitely be interested in this job,” a source who coached under Pelini told 247Sports this week. “I think he would make a more immediate impact more than any other guy I believe. He would change that culture real quick.”"

Danny Hope is looking pretty good in hindsight. He beat Michigan and OSU in his first year! We would've built him a statue for that.

I wish they'd keep Hazell forever.

Losing to Purdue under Bohl would be terrible.

I kind of doubt Bo will leave Youngstown until his Nebraska contact runs out, which is in February 2019..

If he was to take the Purdue job I think they would re-work the NU buyout again, and he'd still get something.

I get the feeling that Bo is the type of guy who'd love to stick it to Nebraska on the field rather than make a few extra bucks.
