Recruiting

Wilson sisters: I got to witness them play this weekend.

Mya - she looked to have good handles, very athletic, smooth shot, and was terrific at driving to the basket. When she wanted to, she could drive the lane and take a two foot jump hop to go around about anyone and lay it in. Marshall has three 6-footers who can move and Mya handled it well when driving.

Ashlee - I was perhaps more impressed with her, especially for her age. If you told me she could be on the Gophers next year, I'd take it. Her athleticism is at least what Mya's is. Ashlee plays lead guard so she handles the ball more and looks to be a legit 5' 11". She took some unwarranted shots, but some of them went in. Hitting turn around jumpers, threes fading to the side, dribbling by people who are fast. Her athleticism is RARE. There were times she played like an underclassmen (8th grader, of course), but she impressed me more than Chloe Johnson, which I've seen in person, too, this year.

#2 Hill-Murray lost 100-85 to #6 Marshall. But the sisters lived up to their billing. It was a fun game to watch.
Wow, that’s a lot of points- what a great game to see in person.

Some of that comes from the fact that Greenway has/had a much better team surrounding her than TO does......
Providence is loaded with talent. Emma M has a bunch of D1 offers, they had D1 Counts and the younger Greenway. I am very much agreeing with you. The part about Tori that worries me is can she play defense? And has she created bad habits by her HS team winning games by clearly running up the score.

Also Kussow’s team beat Providence and she outscored Greenway. Does that mean she is a better player than her?

Good points. It's much easier to play relaxed when you have a good team around you. It's also gotta be a ton of pressure on Tori knowing she has to carry to load.

Would of been so interesting if Brainerd head coach would of just allowed Tori to be on varsity her 7th grade year (the season Tori transferred)

I am trying to set up watching Kusssow but it might have to wait until tournament time. Did anyone see that Jada Seubert from Stevens Point signed with Iowa. Anyone know if MN was interested? Chloe Johnson was in town and dropped 45 on Point. A coach I know thinks she is the real deal. I was out of town so I missed the game. Hoping to be at the gophers WI game. Yes I am in WI but my heart is with the gophers. I am getting excited about us playing better. Might just have to go to the big ten tournament this year to see if we can make some noise.

Jada is a 2027, right? From what someone mentioned here the Gophers are going all in and hard for the Wilson sister.

Yes she is 27. Iowa still in on Wilson, according to article I read. Seubert does.not change that.

McDonald's AA team out today. Good year for upper Midwest. Greenway from Minnesota, Koupal from S. Dakota and Lewis from Iowa are 3 of the 24 selections. Legacy Big Ten schools are improved at attracting McDOnald's AAs, but still struggle to keep the local McDonald's AA home. Greenway to Kentucky and Lewis to Notre Dame were big misses by area Big Ten schools.

Tori can play defense she’ll be a very productive role player at MN and will do well. She’s got elite court vision, as well. Mya Wilson is under rated and it could be a result of her younger sister being so flashy. Mya is a STUD. Once she’s away from the constant comparison of her to her sister, she’s going to thrive and be highly recognized. Ashlee Wilson and Chloe Johnson are entirely different players. Ashlee is a dynamic scorer with very limited IQ, but she is electric. She’ll leave you with jaw dropping plays on the offensive end. She’s a scorer and has a beautiful release. When she isn’t scoring, she isn’t able to do much else. Chloe is a player an entire system will be built around. She’s a big point guard at 6-1 and has an IQ that would allow her to make an impact for the top teams in the country right now, as a 10th grader. She’s a defensive specialist and always is assigned the other teams best player. I watched her in 8th grade playing at Nike Nationals on the Iowa 17 team, and she had one job to defend the other teams best player. She made current Division 1 standouts struggle in a big way. In my opinion Chloe is the most complete player in Minnesota, which is why she holds offers to South Carolina and UConn as a 10th grader. Both types of players are needed on a roster, but Chloe is most definitely the more complete player. Would like to see her with more emotion at times, but maybe that will come as she gets older.

Appreciate the detailed reply.

Hopefully we’ll land at least one if not more 😃 of those three.

A Sweet 16 run could help prime the pump.

For the Gophers, I just worry about past mid-game shooting slumps. Shooting needs to stay consistent and good. Defense is strong,.

Gophers did string it together last season to win the WBIT tournament.

I see your points.

Ashlee is the flashiest of them all. Did she take too many chances and unnecessary shots? Yes. She also displayed good vision, shot making ability, ball handling, and athletic ability. Defense awareness was lacking. Was she the greatest commander of the offense? No. Came off as a bit selfish at times. But time is on her side. It will be interesting to see what she is like in 3 years, where she will only be a Junior.

Mya's game was much more to the point. Probably because she didn't handle the ball as much. She would either make a move to the basket (which was near unstoppable) or get rid of the ball when the shot wasn't there. She played efficiently with her usage. She has plenty of athletic ability to make a difference at the next level.

Chloe is a very under control player. She turned it on when she had to, like the second half, knowing her team needed a big surge in points. She was almost too unselfish at times but that part of her game should be appreciated. She displayed great vision with passing ability. She plays a quiet game. But when you get used to her looking to pass for a teammate, she would run by 2 people for a layup and flash her athleticism. You can tell she spends time in the weight room. The girl is built.

All-in-all it would be great for a couple of these top recruits to stay at home. The Gophers will need more than just their part of the Women's Basketball Rev Sharing to get some of them. NIL will need to assist it.

A sweet sixteen run would definitely help with recruiting!

My read on the new Big Ten revenue sharing is that Minnesota will be a slight loser. Across the Big Ten teams are uniformly giving 75% to football and 15% to basketball, the two revenue producers. Football is massive profitable and gives money to everyone else.

That leaves 10%. Minnesota unlike other schools is including hockey in that remaining 10% to be divided up. That will take away 1% from women's basketball. The final.10% has to be divided up. Volleyball is in that too.

NIL is thus a critical.driver of player.compensation.

Minnesota is definitely committed to the WBB program with no doubts. While women's basketball appears to be a.slight loser at revenue sharing, the program is valued.

Not to disagree, FYI I read am article on how gophers spend money and it reported MN womens basketball as a big money loser

Yes. Huge loss. Although that is accounting. What overhead & depreciation expense goes to that loss, who would get it if not to WBB? The University seems to not flinch at that, although lots of fans question it.

Anyway, that has nothing to do with revenue sharing dollars earmarked for players.
