Recruiting will improve under Kill

We will be dead last in recruiting this year.

So let's not act surprised, okay?

I was comparing his recruiting to other MAC schools when I made the comment. That said most MAC schools are very close in AVG stars and overall rankings. I know it is impossible for MAC school to out recruit a Big Ten school. I think there is little evidence to say whether or not recruiting will improve over Brewster. Remember Brewster was known for his recruiting so I doubt things will improve.

After his stay here I doubt Brester will be known for his recruiting anymore. I just don't think his recruiting abilities were all that good.

Jerry Kil'sl Classes at NIU Conf rankings:
2008-#13 (not sure how much of this class if any he gets credit for)
2009-#7
2010-#4 (highest team in Mac avg stars 2.56/lowest 2.06) Not much difference from top to bottom

Not really much you can take away from his recruiting either way.

One year? That is the best you can do? For all his hype we was not nearly as good as advertised.

Brew's Classes Big Ten Rankings
2008-#3
2009-#6
2010-#6
You pretty much know your are coming behind OSU, Michigan and PSU every year. Give Brew some credit.

Note that 2008 was the first year bump that almost every coach sees. Once people stopped buying into Brewster, the rankings dropped off. I don't count 2007 as his first recruitig year, as I won't count 2010 as Kill's.

Kill will probably have a nice recruiting class in his first full season, we'll see how it goes after that.

I've never heard of a first year bump. You just made that up. Kill didn't have a "first year bump".

I kinda feel like comparing NIU's recruiting with MN recruiting is comparing apples with oranges for some reason.

I just hope he can bring in the athletes and coach them up.

"How can you use this year's rankings when the recruiting process is not even close to being over? Do you really think N. Illinois is going to sign just 5 players in 2011?

Schools from the MAC get a lot of commitments later because of players who are waiting to see if they get offers from bigger programs. They kinda get the leftovers most of the time."

I posted the rankings for this year as they are the most current available. I didnt' say it was the final ranking and we will never know what the final ranking will be as Kill is gone. All of the teams listed are in the same conference and working under the same schedule as far as I know.

It is. Saying recruiting will improve under Kill is absurd. Zero facts to back this up with.

Snooping around Rivals, there are a solid group of players who NIU was/is in the mix for who have some BCS offers, or some pretty good ones, at least. It'll be interesting to see if Kill can get any of those guys over to Minnesota, including a couple who also had Minny offers in Craig Wilkins (WR) and Steven Montgomery (Safety). Don't know much about their recruitment, but just something to keep in mind as Kill tries to round out this class.

Snipe them today.

Ron Zook, went from outside top 50 recuit rankings to #30 in first full recruiting year.
Bret Bielema- from 40-34.
Nick Saban- #10 to #1
Jim Harbaugh, outside top 50 to #50
Chip Kelly 32 to 13
Bill Stewart 42 to 27

Most coaches do see a bump after their first full season.

You do know if I tried I can find 5 coaches where this did not happen. BB 40-34, you call that a bum? Normal variation is what I call it. Tim Brewster outside top 50 to #17. Way more than a bump. Your biggest jump is 19 spots while Brew jumped 33 at the very least. Give it up!

I just think it's pointless and misleading as recruiting isn't even close to being done. MAC teams with 10-15 commitments will be ranked higher than a school with 5 commitments.

Agree you can't use 2011 as proof of anything.

Kill should sign Brewster as his recruiting coordinator (only half-kidding).

There's a reason why I called it a bump and not a jump.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit.

You could find 5 where this isn't the case but if you look through many, many examples you will see the pattern. They do see a bump in recruiting after year 1, in general. Your Brewster example adds to my point. Most coaches see a bump 6-20 spots in the rercruiting rankings. Some maintain or increase that and for others it falls off.

It's hard to say. We don't really know yet just how good Brewster's recruiting really was. We knew the Gophers had problems, but we didn't know how much of that was coaching and how much was talent. The last couple games showed us that there was some talent on the roster.

I'll take both of them in a heart beat.

Pretty funny Jerry Kill story. You guys might even hear this line today at the press conference.

When Kill was hired at Southern Illinois he spoke at his press conference. He started talking about recruiting, and how he had been told that people weren't sure he could bring good players to SIU.

He then took the opportunity to introduce his wife who, by the way, isn't a bad looking gal.

When she sat down he fired off this line - "See fellas? I CAN recruit.":)

But Brew jumped more than 6-20 spots. So that is not just a "bump" as you call it. Stop playing stupid word games.

As far as ratings we do. Development is a whole different question. Kill should win that hands down.

It's not word games. Bump=small variance( A slight swelling or lump), jump=large variance (To undergo a sudden and pronounced increase).

These are no word games. Maybe a failure to comprehend your native language, but not word games.
